Of course you can. He described notable issues he had with it, ie short length and repetitive gameplay, which thus means he has every right to dock points. Just cause a mode may be a ‘side thing’ doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be considered in the review.
He says he completed and unlocked everything in 6 hours. If you could finish every GP in MK8 with every engine size, and unlocked every driver, kart, and customisation in 6 hours, that would be a big problem too.
Aye so if I release a game that’s about a character walking from his bathroom to the living room, and the walking is extremely smooth, it deserves a 10 since it’s only being reviewed on what it offers? Nah, that would be dumb. Lack of features are always important to reviews.
Ryan Kevin Pahl that's a bad comparison. Of course that game you described would have us desire more. Because it's BORING. In this review, the reviewer said the game was fun and is the best entry in the series. A game should be reviewed for what it has. You can want more from just about any game. No matter how good it is. There is a difference between wants and needs. The game you described NEEDS more.
People only point out what a game doesnt have when the base game doesnt fully satisfy them. Nobody complains about God of War not having a multiplayer mode, but if the singleplayer was just ok then you can bet someone out there would say "it doesnt even have a multiplayer mode. Very little replayability" AKA if Mario Tennis was great on its own, then this reviewer wouldn't have bothered saying "but I wish it had ____". People only nitpick when the piece of media they are criticizing doesnt distract them enough from those nitpicks.
For anyone who's wondering, here's everything that's been added to the game since launch. - New Characters. Koopa Troopa, Blooper, Diddy Kong, Birdo, Koopa Paratroopa, Shy Guy, and Petey Piranha have all been added. (Boom Boom, Luma, and Pauline are coming too) - Co-Op Challenge. Limited time events that group 4 people online in a unique mini game. Success grants new alternate costumes for characters, and each challenge will be added offline once the time is over. Currently the two challenges are Boo Hunt and Yoshi's Ring Shot. - New Singleplayer Content. The Ruins of Trials have been added, which include a Boss Rush, and 4 levels that are score-challenge versions of other level types from the single player campaign. Completing these 5 levels grants a special racket for online play. - Balancing. Characters are balanced in both regular play and the single player. - Tournament Improvements. There are now ranking systems, Doubles Tournaments, etc. Also, all courts can appear with Hazards Off during tournaments. - Other Options, like a quick restart in the single player, longer free play matches, and more.
Adventure mode is awesome. Mechanics and special shots are awesome too. Best mario tennis game in the franchise. If you're thinking about buying it, buy it you won't regret it.
6 hours in an offline campaign for a arcade tennis game is quite a lot.. given that is literally a side mode to what you buy the game for? Definitely an odd view on this.
James Williams It’s main thing is the online experience. The single player is mostly a glorified tutorial where they teach you the mechanics, by doing this you’ll gain enough experience to perform well in an online match.
Note: As of the time of publishing this review, Nintendo was yet to enable online multiplayer, so multiplayer impressions are based on local multiplayer and the reviewer's experience in the pre-launch Online Tournament demo. If online doesn’t work as expected at launch, this review will be updated. Right in the description lmao
Don't care if the single player modes are lacking. Who plays tennis for the solo experience? Mario Tennis is all about the multiplayer and that superbly crafted arcade gameplay. I consider it icing on the cake that adventure mode is there at all. Hope to pick this up over the weekend. Looks like a solid 8.5 to me.
you can’t give a game a low score because the story mode was too short, it’s a sports game for Pete’s sake. The main focus is local and online play, not single player.
Junia Osier I never said it shouldn’t be reviewed, but the score was lowered for the single player mode being worse than it could’ve been, when it’s mainly an extended tutorial for the online play (the main focus of the game). The online play is fun and creative, as is the gameplay. This review barely speaks about online at all, and mostly talks about single player, and the things the game COULD’VE had when a review should focus on what the game does have and the sole point of the game. Not the extras. It’s like giving super smash bros brawl a 5/10 because besides the single player and multiplayer, there weren’t much extras to explore, despite the massive character roster and incredible gameplay.
Even the story mode for super mario strikers was short too but yet that’s an amazing game. Same can be said for Mario baseball and even Mario kart if you want to include that too. So yeah I agree that it doesn’t matter how long it is, since people are buying it for the multiplayer part not the story mode lol
Yeah... I'm gonna have to disagree with you there mate. Single player is just like Splatoon they only need to teach you the mechanics. Customization? On what clothing?...I might run through single real quick but heading into online day one.
The thing with Splatoon 2's single player is that you can go back to get the hero weapons and stuff you missed on your first run. Customization would definitely have been appreciated to spice things up and multiplayer has some room for improvement as well.
I feel like you’re complaining about things that no one else would even think of. “I don’t like that I can’t customize my character!” .....IT’S TENNIS! When has that ever been an option in a Mario tennis game? You can’t dock points from the score just because you think you have a good idea
Mario tennis for Game Boy Advanced had a full story mode, character customization, the ability to train certain skills, as well as the ability to earn different partners. I've actually been pretty disappointed by every tennis game that's released since.
I'll give credit where credit is due. Good review Tristan Ogilvie. All your points were well thought out and explained and unlike a lot of other ign reviews I completely understand why you gave it the score that you did. There was no unnecessary nit picking and you had fairly well reasoned arguments. Keep up the good work.
I don't know if I'm the only one thinking this, but this doesn't feel like a 60 dollar game to me? Seems like 40 dollars is a more fair price tag. Thoughts?
Gabe Maldonado It’s all very subjective; for many the core gameplay is what sells the game at 60$ with loads of multiplayer replayability, and others who typically don’t invest a lot into online and such might prefer it at a lower price because of the light campaign. For me...60$ feels worth it because of the sheer polish and precision of the gameplay, which could potentially make me sink 50+ hours into the game
I think it depends on how much time youre gonna put into it. I put 10 hours just into the free demo, so I will absolutely spend much more time on the game. As an example, I spent 80 hours on Odyssey which I got for 60 bucks, but this game seems to be something Ill play for at least 100 hours and will maintain replayability.
ChillyBear single player mode play time will obviously vary but keep in mind that this reviewer claimed it took him 6 hours, so I think only 2 hours of the mode isn’t what most people will be experiencing. Judging from what I’m seeing, it’s probably more realistically 4-6. And you can’t forget online
I guess I'm counting by 5. 9.0 would be a perfect score..But there's lack of character customization, so that brings it down to 8.5. Then he mentions a weak singleplayer game..That's 8.0. Maybe I'm looking at it in a weird way, but that's how I always imagined the point system.
Nothing to unlock, only the 16 characters no others of the many the mario universe has. You can only play adventure mode as mario and noone else, nothing to make the single player mode challenging or give it replay value. Those are others as well. Sounds like a 7 to me and that is being generous.
Old Mario Tennis games (GBC and GBA) had a really interesting story mode with a lot of RPG elements, and it was a lot of fun Why Nintendo doesn't do something like that again? The game definitely would be a 10.
The demo was the most fun i ever had since breath of the wild, for me this is a switch seller. At least 9. What did you expect from a mario tennis adventure mode? The fun is in the tennis! Just because they added an adventure to play here an then or when you're offline why bring it down to 7.5?
Sounds like Camelot still has some work to do! I mean why can’t you choose the stage you want?! And I’ll be awaiting a single player experience that rivals that of Mario Super Sluggers on Wii
There are different factors that go into a game review as opposed to a movie review. For example, a movie would need to have a well-paced story whereas a game would be judged on the amount of content for your money. Come on, now. Think.
This dude is trying too hard to find things to complain about! Edit: why do I see so many people complaining about the story mode being hard? It takes me no more than 3 to 5 tries per level before beating it. All of today’s modern games are way too easy! And now after beating it. Really IGN? Underdeveloped? What did you want it to be like?
What Online Modes are there? Can you do a mix of local & online player doubles? If so, different teams? Review didn't really tell much about the game's features.
I buy this game only to play multiplayer with my brother + online.... the story mode and single player mode are secondary for me. The gameplay is fantastic
toya ، You cant say that till you play the game. From what I've seen, its fun but sometimes repetitive, having amazing bosses and some fun challenges that are bogged down by some boring repetitive challenges that decrease the overal experience, but still maintaining the fun core ideas the whole way through.
“Under developed single player mode” You do realize normal tennis games “story modes” are just going from a famous tennis player to the next. And those games probably get 8.2-8.5 review scores.
I'm really interested in this game for the swing mode. I know it's more casual, but I really miss Wii Tennis. Is swing mode with friends worth the $60?
I’m sorry this game is a masterpiece. Cannot believe how much fun I’m having with it and the gameplay mechanics are surprisingly deep. Very competitive online.
Fancy knocking points off for not having customization. Playing round a characters weakness is half the challenge in competitive games but when there are speed and power boosts involved it soon becomes guess work.
I bought the game, it’s an extremely fun multiplayer game, but the single player is simply average, but I Came to this game for multiplayer, so it’s an 8/10 for me, the best Mario sports game since Mario Strikers Charged
Okay just read the description and that does make sense considering only review copies are out, but either mention in the video that online isn't available yet or wait until online is available to publish the review
Didn't answer anything we wanted to know, what about motion control or the ability to queue with your friends in the online portion. (he did mention the lack of local tournament mode) Honestly the cosmetics can come later.
Fair review. What the reviewer was trying to say throughout the video is that the game gets old fast and isn't worth playing for very long. Also, it's fair for him to judge the game based off of what it's missing, because it is a $60 game and other $60 games have much more content. Afterall, reviews are here to prevent consumers from wasting their time or money. I give this review a 10/10
This is the problem with reviewers. Because companies like IGN hand off all the responsibility to rate a game for them to ONE and only one person, the ratings themselves make almost no sense. Pretty much, these days all ratings from almost all these groups are often based on the biased and nit-picked opinions of one single reviewer.
ElectricBlue Berry Personal biased opinions are wrong and irrelevant when reviewing videogames, the correct way to review is being unbiased to determine if a videogame is good, great or not, and this is a fact.
He complains about the absence of customizing characters even though they said you’ll be able to unlock costumes through online play (as well as more characters.) And that brings me to the point of online. Online is probably where this game will shine the most and he hasn’t even experienced it yet since the game hasn’t been released. This should be redone.
Because they hold their IPs in such high regard. For example, they think a low price may devalue their game. Hence why games like Tropical Freeze and other Wii U ports go for full price. This is why gamers should always do research before blindly handing over their money.
Tony Jenn It's true that if you want a game and are eager to play it, then spending the full 60 bucks would be a good investment to you. I'm saying people should also keep into consideration if the game is worth the price. Companies shouldn't be getting away with overcharging for games with minimal content. If they see that they can get away with certain business practices, they'll most likely keep doing said practices. This is why I also don't like the whole "pre-order to get a bonus" thing. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.
Two hours of campaign is just right. Not too in-depth and not too short. Most people will be going into online day one. There will be a patch on the first day. I know it's opinionated for this to be a bad review, but have we forgotten the majority of what people will be playing is not available? Online services won't be available publicly and other reviewers have decided not to score yet due to how well the online is, because it makes up so much of the time someone would be playing the game.
Unfair. Rate how much fun you get by just playing multiplayer locally or online. To me it was at least an 8.5/10 experience. The single player mode is just an extra feature
have you actually played the game yet? did you get a review copy? if not, how could you possibly give it a rating? Also, offline modes should not be so lacking, nor be considered an "extra feature", in a full priced, $60 game. different people have different priorities, and lots of people enjoy robust single player options. Just because they arent YOUR priorities doesn't mean they're wrong.
It’s a review of the full game. The single player isn’t an extra experience, it’s part of the game, and thus should still be considered in the review overall.
Single player and offline modes should hold just as much weight as its online modes. I’m sorry but to call them “extra features” is really nonsensical and that kind of mindset is the reason some devs lean hard on multiplayer “games as service” games rather than great single player experiences.
Will Fulton There was a Demo Tournament which was fuckin incredible. At least 9 for me. I am not interested in SP at all as well. There are so much SP games out there and I dont think Mario Tennis needs to be another one.
Here's the thing. I pre-ordered Aces knowing that I was going to play online 95% of the time. The Adventure mode is supposed to be dull and short, because it's just a tutorial.
"Mario Tennis Aces is a perfect game, but the single player it's not 300 hours long, and now I'm out of things to do while living in my parents basement. 3 out of 10."
"Note: As of the time of publishing this review, Nintendo was yet to enable online multiplayer, so multiplayer impressions are based on local multiplayer and the reviewer's experience in the pre-launch Online Tournament demo. If online doesn’t work as expected at launch, this review will be updated." Don't worry, It will update the score... k
If the power shots/racket breaks are removed does this play like Mario Tennis 64? If so, I'm in, but if I can only turn the stuff in a single mode I'll pass on this.
Nintendo needs to release a Mario Golf next, please! I loved it on the N64. Still on the fence of getting this even tho had a blast with the demo, but it did start to get a little boring after a few games, so have to really think on it good because that's $65
Just got tennis aces and watched the review then read these comments. Funny how mario golf is coming out this summer and you commented they should release one two years ago haha
I read another review which says: "You cant play matches longer than 1 Set with first to 2 Games in free play mode with friends or online." - if that is true, the whole sense of the game is gone. Why not let people play full matches against other people?? This is ridiculous beyond belief.....
Am I the only one who agrees with this review? I mean, 7.5 is completely fair in my opinion for a game that doesn't give you an incentive to keep playing (with almost nothing to unlock), has some notable design flaws, and a shorter singleplayer than hoped for. Now that it's been updated I'd give it more like an 8.3 (8 new characters, new minigame mode, etc.) but it's still a flawed game.
I played the demo and loved it. But I loved Mario Tennis Open's customization for your mii. It just added a factor that you could work on while you played the game. Now knowing that there is no such feature in this game, I'm not as interested anymore.
Why done they just make a sports compilation instead of charging $60 for ONE sport? Edit: Mario Kart kinda makes sense but tennis, golf, and soccer shouldn’t be sold separately unless it’s EA or 2K or something
Don't understand the hate on this review. Lack of single player is incredibly disappointing to me, as the only Mario Tennis I played was the gameboy one which was basically an rpg tennis game.
not suprised it was a 7.5, im still gonna think about getting it though because of the amount of fun i had on the online tournament, but we should remember that they might bring DLC to this game (since they're doing so with Koopa Troopa and Blooper)
Most unfair review I have ever watched from IGN. Just because you couldn't change your racket in the game you give the game a 7.5 !? Do you want Nintendo to give you a response like I'm so sorry that the racket selection didn't please you? IGN, you guys are too harsh. And at least they tried to put an adventure mode, and this is the first Mario tennis game with an adventure mode, so there is no reason for you to criticize the mode. Just be glad we aren't in an Ultra Smash senario.
Might seem that way at first, but longevity is a legitimate factor, 7.5 is still a solid "good" and IGN have put out much, much more unfair reviews. DOOM (2016)? Alien Isolation?
“Has Waluigi”
-10/10
Pedro Marberger "Has Waluigi with a snazzy tennis outfit, a moonwalking Trick Shot, and a WAHNDERFUL Special Shot"
-11/10
Pedro Marberger true very true but idk if I will by smash Bros ultimate because there is no waluigi😁🙂😬😔
Waluigi was invented FOR Mario Tennis so it'd be pretty bad if they left him out.
Pedro Marberger Waluigi is barely a Nintendo character to begin with when you look at why he was created to begin with.
Just because waluigi is in a game.
You don't always have to give a game 100/100
So who wants a new Mario Strikers game?
StaticShock42 My brother and I play og strikers on GameCube all the time. It’s such an underrated game, so the answer to your question is yes.
Hells ya
Yep. There would be so much more interest in that than Mario Tennis.
Been waiting since the last game!
StaticShock42 could be a huge esport if Nintendo tried tbh
I don't know how you can complain about a 6 hour story mode in a tennis game.
ChillyBear Well, he says he completed it in half a dozen hours.
Geoffrey Smart I'm surprised they don't complain about the 6 hour crap campaign in call of duty.
Easily by having knowledge of the GBC game
I thought games were supposed to be reviewed for what they deliver not on what the reviewer wish it had...
Sauceddie - They're reviewed on both.
Aye so if I release a game that’s about a character walking from his bathroom to the living room, and the walking is extremely smooth, it deserves a 10 since it’s only being reviewed on what it offers? Nah, that would be dumb. Lack of features are always important to reviews.

Has anything else been added since this?
Yeh i wanted to know about it too. Has anything else come to the game?
MVP
What is the total file size with all of that?
Is it worth it now? Or go with strikers?
"More short-lived than a book of Toad's memoires." Savage...
Adventure mode is awesome. Mechanics and special shots are awesome too. Best mario tennis game in the franchise. If you're thinking about buying it, buy it you won't regret it.
"Too much Tennis" - 7.5
Original
Proving we can hang onto a meme almost 4 years after it originated-just showing how shallow-minded the IGN fanbase is.
i had to lol at this comment
21st Century Legendary Dreamer but we can always get Ultra Smash Brothers!
Guitarist6494 best review ever

7.5 - Too much tennis, not enough aces
It's tennis why too much?

Old uninspired joke 7/10
Hahahaha 🤣best comment here
lol. this meme will never get old.
Doesnt talk about the online aspect of it at all, which is where I reckon is the main focus of the game.

you just didn't read the description did you.
He literally talked about the multiplayer aspect though 😂

Right in the description lmao
Read the damn description.
From what I have played this game's pure tennis gameplay is at least an 8.5/10, so I think the score is pretty harsh.
Nah it's not, Tennis game's aren't that fun
It is a 10/10. It is the best tennis gameplay ever, if not the best sports gameplay ever.
In general unless the game is the best game ever like breath of the wild, then ign will usually be pretty harsh on Nintendo
Don't care if the single player modes are lacking. Who plays tennis for the solo experience? Mario Tennis is all about the multiplayer and that superbly crafted arcade gameplay. 60$ for a solid 8.5. SIXTY DOLLARS FOR TENNIS

"Half a dozen hours of game time" Dude you could easily have just said 6 hours.
You could easily just use your brain and know that he meant six hours
So extra lol
@@jneigh727 that's not his point
I really want to play this game asap! Hurry, June 22!
Anime Games Online Just play Tennis World Tour, it has real players unlike this unrealistic mega jump boing tennis
ME TOO!!! I honestly cannot wait any longer even tho its only tomorrow 😂
2 hours till the game goes live
soul elevate WHAT?
Adel AlZahrani when they say the 22nd they mean the 22nd in Japan, so 2 hours until it goes live. :)
Yeah... I'm gonna have to disagree with you there mate. Single player is just like Splatoon they only need to teach you the mechanics. Customization? On what clothing?...I might run through single real quick but heading into online day one.
Me too. As soon as I grasp the basics (it's been years since I've played the older Mario Tennis games) it's off to Online where the real challenge is.
The thing with Splatoon 2's single player is that you can go back to get the hero weapons and stuff you missed on your first run. Customization would definitely have been appreciated to spice things up and multiplayer has some room for improvement as well.

I dont buy any game for $60, if i know i want the game i pre order it on amazon just for the 20% off, or i wait till a price drop
Nintendo games keep me a kid at heart. I love their family friendly games.
With how much I loved Mario Tennis on the 64 I have to buy this.
Bamma Lamb exactly how i feel. N64 Mario Tennis as well as Gamecube Mario Tennis were my favorite
Love all Mario sport games except golf always hated golf
Mario Tennis 64 was great. Every MT after it was a disappointment if you are looking for some serious gameplay.
Rai Sie this delivers
Bamma Lamb if you like Mario Tennis on the 64, than you will probably not like this.
A 7.5 just because the single player campaign could be better, and characters have little customization? That sounds like an 8 to me.
That's a 0.5 differential... Well within the bounds of personal preference imo.
I guess I'm counting by 5. 9.0 would be a perfect score..But there's lack of character customization, so that brings it down to 8.5. Then he mentions a weak singleplayer game..That's 8.0. Maybe I'm looking at it in a weird way, but that's how I always imagined the point system.

you gave Kirby Trash Allies an 8 but this game is a 7.5? oh boy
mehdigeek I know right?! Both are trash.
Did different individuals review the two games?
There is something called opinions
mehdigeek give kirby some respect
mehdigeek Yeah. both trash should be a 5. 😂
The amazing thing about Mario Tennis Aces is that it really makes you FEEL like a pro tennis player
Old Mario Tennis games (GBC and GBA) had a really interesting story mode with a lot of RPG elements, and it was a lot of fun Why Nintendo doesn't do something like that again? The game definitely would be a 10.
That’s all I’ve been wanting from Nintendo with tennis for the longest time
Mario Tennis on GBC was way better than the 64 version because of the story mode. It was a great RPG.
adventure mode ONLY provided you with 6 hours of gameplay? it's a sports game, I'd say that's pretty great. Some offline games are shorter than that.
Update your review ign the online is available.
Ign has 1000s of reviews they can't update every game. They should be judged by the game at launch
The demo was the most fun i ever had since breath of the wild, for me this is a switch seller. At least 9. What did you expect from a mario tennis adventure mode? The fun is in the tennis! Just because they added an adventure to play here an then or when you're offline why bring it down to 7.5?
Not again
Sounds like Camelot still has some work to do! I mean why can’t you choose the stage you want?! And I’ll be awaiting a single player experience that rivals that of Mario Super Sluggers on Wii
YOU CAN'T!? WHAT
Peter Haywood you can you just have to turn all the others off, it’s weird. Watch GameXplain for a better review
Jack Misha I prefer Nintendo Life. Both GameXplain and IGN are dumb
Swedish Otaku it’s weird
Peter Haywood Nintendo Life? Huh, they never really clicked with me, well if you like me that's cool
Reminder that The Angry Birds Movie got 0.1 higher than THIS
TomLegend101 lol if you think that matters at all then you should learn how review scores work
Angry Birds doesn't cost $60 and isn't a video game
TomLegend101 That's totally irrelevant
There are different factors that go into a game review as opposed to a movie review. For example, a movie would need to have a well-paced story whereas a game would be judged on the amount of content for your money. Come on, now. Think.
TomLegend101 *comparing a movie score to a video game one. How low do you have to go to complain about something huh?
one of the best Tennis games I have played Definitely worth every penny and the story mode is amazing
This dude is the best reviewer for IGN. His reviews are just spot on.
Finally an intelligent person again
This was not spot on bro. Nitpicky imo
Game deserved atleast an 8.5
What Online Modes are there? Can you do a mix of local & online player doubles? If so, different teams? Review didn't really tell much about the game's features.
You can do double with a friend in your team and 2 randoms online, yes
Nah it actually just didn't tell the features you said. So it did tell almost every feature, not an accurate statement of yours.
I buy this game only to play multiplayer with my brother + online.... the story mode and single player mode are secondary for me. The gameplay is fantastic
7.5? I thought You would give it a 8.3 because of the graphic & the adventure mode.
Robin Olsson the adventure mode is crap though
toya ، nah
toya ، You cant say that till you play the game. From what I've seen, its fun but sometimes repetitive, having amazing bosses and some fun challenges that are bogged down by some boring repetitive challenges that decrease the overal experience, but still maintaining the fun core ideas the whole way through.
"The Single Player is boring when you play it over and over again" What?
7.5, saved you 5m
Hugo l. Thanks
Hugo l. What makes it 7.5? What’s good/bad about it? How does knowing a number save me anything?
Hugo l. thaks.
Hugo l. 5m of pointless statements
The score is not the point here, the point is WHY the score was given, hence the five minutes before it.
“Under developed single player mode”
You do realize normal tennis games “story modes” are just going from a famous tennis player to the next. And those games probably get 8.2-8.5 review scores.
I think they expected more from a Mario Tennis game though. Compared to actual tennis games.
Game definitely deserved an 8.5 at the very least
No mention to online or motion controls?.... those are huge aspects to the game
No mention of the motion controls which is a big thing. Bearing in mind the success or wii tennis. Not the best of reviews.
I'm really interested in this game for the swing mode. I know it's more casual, but I really miss Wii Tennis. Is swing mode with friends worth the $60?
Why are so many people acting like 7.5 is a bad score?
if i scored 75 on a test my parents would beat me
yup
Very fun game, I wouldn't spend $60 on it though.
An 8 would have seen fair to me.
I bought the game, it’s an extremely fun multiplayer game, but the single player is simply average, but I Came to this game for multiplayer, so it’s an 8/10 for me, the best Mario sports game since Mario Strikers Charged
... Yeah lets just ignore the online mode... It's only the main feature of it
Okay just read the description and that does make sense considering only review copies are out, but either mention in the video that online isn't available yet or wait until online is available to publish the review
Didn't answer anything we wanted to know, what about motion control or the ability to queue with your friends in the online portion. (he did mention the lack of local tournament mode) Honestly the cosmetics can come later.
“Too Much Mario” - 7.5
“Too Much Mario Sports Games” - 7.5
The Super Computer that is a great point. They should take an average of at least 3-5 reviewers.
Now I asked you if he gave the game a 9 out of 10. Would you say the samething..
As always, IGN makes the most mediocre review.
RougeisHawt sometimes you can't buy or get everything you want. There has to be selective choices in life & That's where reviews come in
Well, tbh people have there own opinion and reviews on what they think of the game so mainly every review is gonna be different.
ElectricBlue Berry
Personal biased opinions are wrong and irrelevant when reviewing videogames, the correct way to review is being unbiased to determine if a videogame is good, great or not, and this is a fact.
Nicholas Chavez Yeah, true.
How so? Because they don’t hand the game undying blind praise? Fanboy.
Now that's what I call a character list.
He complains about the absence of customizing characters even though they said you’ll be able to unlock costumes through online play (as well as more characters.) And that brings me to the point of online. Online is probably where this game will shine the most and he hasn’t even experienced it yet since the game hasn’t been released. This should be redone.
Why do Nintendo games never go down in price, no matter how old. But most have extremely low content in them? Really this is selling for $60?...
Chris Wave It's because of the Franchise name such as Pokemon and Mario
Chris Wave it's much good
Because they hold their IPs in such high regard. For example, they think a low price may devalue their game. Hence why games like Tropical Freeze and other Wii U ports go for full price. This is why gamers should always do research before blindly handing over their money.
Aeolus if they want the game. Then how's that blindly handing over money? Also, what research is needed?
Tony Jenn It's true that if you want a game and are eager to play it, then spending the full 60 bucks would be a good investment to you. I'm saying people should also keep into consideration if the game is worth the price. Companies shouldn't be getting away with overcharging for games with minimal content. If they see that they can get away with certain business practices, they'll most likely keep doing said practices. This is why I also don't like the whole "pre-order to get a bonus" thing. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.
The gameboy color version was the best one. None of the games since then have ever hooked me like that one.
"Too Many Metaphors" - 7.5
Two hours of campaign is just right. Not too in-depth and not too short. Most people will be going into online day one. There will be a patch on the first day. I know it's opinionated for this to be a bad review, but have we forgotten the majority of what people will be playing is not available? Online services won't be available publicly and other reviewers have decided not to score yet due to how well the online is, because it makes up so much of the time someone would be playing the game.
I predict an 8.5...
EDIT: Wow really!!??? A 7.5 IGN, Really
Jack Webb I had the same prediction!!! Worst review in a long time
Damn people still get butthurt about their scores lol when will y’all learn
s q u i d w a r d so you agree with the score?
You’re acting like a 7.5 is bad. 7.5 is classified as good.
Sonic The Snailhog but only that. I would give this game an 8.5 judging by the demo because the demo was just superb.
Anyone remember that amazing Mario Tennis RPG on the GBA made by Camelot?.. Ahh..good times..
True I've played it, it's addictive and I haven't even gotten to destroy my friends yet..So that's worth it's weight
The score is 7.5. There. You're welcome.
I don't mind the score. The demo was enough to make this a must buy for me...eventually!
Thanks for the additional info!
We want Mario Golf!
Wish granted.
Here's the thing. I pre-ordered Aces knowing that I was going to play online 95% of the time. The Adventure mode is supposed to be dull and short, because it's just a tutorial.
mario tennis finally had a good rating from IGN since mario power tennis from 2004
"Mario Tennis Aces is a perfect game, but the single player it's not 300 hours long, and now I'm out of things to do while living in my parents basement. 3 out of 10."
I think you mean "can be" instead of "could've been". In this generation Nintendo it's updating his multiplayer games ;)
"Note: As of the time of publishing this review, Nintendo was yet to enable online multiplayer, so multiplayer impressions are based on local multiplayer and the reviewer's experience in the pre-launch Online Tournament demo. If online doesn’t work as expected at launch, this review will be updated."
Don't worry, It will update the score... k
The fact that this game has 10x more original content then any other “generic” tennis game, and those games score at least an 8, really pisses me off
a honda with 10 cup holders is still a honda
Ummm have you seen Daisy in shorts!? 10000/10 for me!
I think its almost guaranteed that nintendo will continue to support this game with updates and content throughout the year
Offline tournament with friends is the biggest disappointment for me. Adding unlockable outfits in story mode would've been nice too.
If the power shots/racket breaks are removed does this play like Mario Tennis 64? If so, I'm in, but if I can only turn the stuff in a single mode I'll pass on this.
Sounded like he wanted 100 hour tennis game with tons of loot for customization
Tennis isn’t enough, should be mario sports collection
It’s a tennis game what more single player do you want? Do agree on customization options though
I preferred that one second pause for applause when hitting that super racquet breaking move in the demo.
ANOTHER 10 / 10 GOTY MY BOIS
ooF
Diddy Kong, Link, Boo, and Birdo deserves to be on the roster as free DOC for the game
The “haces” pronunciations is killing me. 🤣😂😅
I read another review which says: "You cant play matches longer than 1 Set with first to 2 Games in free play mode with friends or online." - if that is true, the whole sense of the game is gone. Why not let people play full matches against other people?? This is ridiculous beyond belief.....
Mario tennis for game boy was the GOAT
Am I the only one who agrees with this review? I mean, 7.5 is completely fair in my opinion for a game that doesn't give you an incentive to keep playing (with almost nothing to unlock), has some notable design flaws, and a shorter singleplayer than hoped for. Now that it's been updated I'd give it more like an 8.3 (8 new characters, new minigame mode, etc.) but it's still a flawed game.
Well at least it's better than Ultra Smash
DanTheMan33088 who are you ???? Waluigi
Does anyone know what time the game launches tomorrow? I am in Europe and wonder if I can play at 12 p.m. or if I have to wait a few hours
Aw man, that's so disappointing how single player isn't bigger...
Seems like the core is very polished and many people seem to like this game a lot.
The GBA game had adventure mode . . .
Ya but that was a handheld. . .
I meant first Mario tennis home console game with an adventure mode.
Wazamacow The game is trash stop crying about it
Cahan McLaughlin ooo that’s gonna make a fanboy war. I’ll just grab my popcorn over here...
Might seem that way at first, but longevity is a legitimate factor, 7.5 is still a solid "good" and IGN have put out much, much more unfair reviews. DOOM (2016)? Alien Isolation?
If it doesn't have offline 1v1 or duos, why would I want this game
Mario Tennis Aces needs some more sizzle - 7.5/10.
Could you elaborate on the local multiplayer split screen....you say most of the time its forced. When is it not?
"half a dozen hours..." why not just say 6?
