I broke my wrist 2 years ago. You lose a lot of muscle mass when the cast is on. That is what happened to Landon. It is going to take a while for his arm to fill back out and then things will look more normal. He should go to PT. That will help him with getting his muscle strength back. He may always have a bend but it shouldn't affect the way he does things.

    • @tinydancer7426
      @tinydancer7426 2 года назад +4

Yeah, PT is important to regain normal range of motion and rebuild strength and muscle mass. How if, when and how much of that happening will largely depend on the quality of therapist and therapy ...... and how motivated and dependable the patient is in participating in the therapy ..... being given a regimen of exercises to do at home between therapist guided session and doing home therapy is so important ..... parents need to be on top of him doing his "homework" and working with him to make sure he does them correctly
It's hard enough to get kids to do their therapy at home ...... I worked with a woman who broke her wrist ..... the typical "old people's break" right across the growth plate ...... she did not/would not follow the physician's orders for post op care after casting (rest, no use of arm/wrist/hand, keep in sling, etc) nor did she adhere to the PT schedule and home PT between appointments ...... as a result it did not heal properly and she is left with a permanently aching wrist .....yup, dominant hand/wrist/arm

Right now, Landen's muscles in his forearm have atrophied (gotten smaller) from lack of use. As he uses that arm more, the muscles will get bigger and the curve will be less apparent.

My brother really badly broke his arm around the same age. He ended up needing surgery and had permanent nerve damage from the doctor setting it wrong right after the break. Maybe he needs to see a different doctor for a second opinion. Especially since I know a lot of bad breaks need different casts through the healing process. Wishing the best for Landon!

See my son broke his arm last year. And bc of how it broke they needed to do a simple surgery to reset it correctly so it would heal properly. So I was puzzled why they never had surgery a possibility for Landon. Just told Jess, oh it will never be straight lol plus they took so long to cast it. I think that was a bad call on the doctor not doing it right away.

Yes I always leave a gratuity. Storyline: I started doing this 2 years ago when I got to talking with the housekeeper at my hotel . I was staying at the beaches in Florida which is upperclass as well as tourist area . She informed me that she had worked there for 18 years and was only
Making $9.25 an hour .WOW!!!!! So underpaid for the crap they have to clean up. Not everyone clean jus sayn! I also strip the bedding and make two separate piles one with towels and one with all the bedding. I also make sure I pick up all the trash and just leave it in a bag by the door. So basically a quick clean up before checkout

The entire situation was a joke. The specialist not getting him in immediately would have made me go back to the hospital to have a doctor affiliated with the hospital treat him. The insurance plan is somewhat responsible. I’m guessing the hospital didn’t reset it and cast it because the insurance plan doesn’t consider it a health issue that requires ER intervention. They then required her to see the primary to get a referral for the specialist. Ugh I’m so happy I have an insurance plan that allows me to go straight to a surgeon. Insurance plans that allow patients to suffer with jumping through hoops should be illegal.

I’m now 32 and u can notice if I point it out but it doesn’t really affect the use of the arm!! The dr really did do them dirty I would honestly sue bc he just wanted to get them out of there and had he seen the specialist the next day she could have fixed it but three weeks to wait for a cast is insane!

When my sister broke her ankle, it was not set in the ER ...... they put an inflatable cast on it and told her to "get thee to an orthopedic surgeon" ..... it was not an open fracture and the bones were not displaced ...... and swollen ...... even the ortho surgeon did not set it right away because of the swelling ..... she was sent home and told to keep the ankle elevated above her body (yep, basically bed rest on the sofa during the day with her foot op on the back of the sofa) for a week ...... then the ankle was surgically set with pins in the one bone and a plate and screws in the other ...... back on the sofa with the foot up in a semi rigid caste until the incisions healed and then fully casted in a hard cast for X number of weeks (no weight bearing), then a walking cast for X weeks, then a walking boot, etc.

I broke my arm in a total U shape when I was Landen's age. They put me under anesthesia to straighten it out the next day and my arm's totally straight now. I think it has to do with how quickly it gets put back in place and casted, so my /guess/ would be that Landen's will always be a little crooked. But kid bones aren't totally solid and are pretty resilient, so I could totally be wrong !

Hey Jess, just a hint, when I broke my arm they had my mother give slight help with the exercises. Like when he is trying to get his hand to go up she would slightly help me push it up. When I was trying to do the palm up she would help by hold my elbow and body still. When I was doing palm down she would do the same. Remember not too much at once, he won't be able to go full palm up or down very quickly. Baby steps Any amount of progress is great, but remember his arm is still weak and can rebreak so take it slow and steady. Assistance and consistency is the key. You might want to consider a rehabilitation for him so that they can help with the right amount of pressure and exercises that will get him back at as much function as possible in that arm. It maybe crucked but with the right rehabilitation there is no reason he can't have full function. Please don't wait like I did, now my arm is only working at 35% function on a good day. Landon is too young to face a lifetime of a low functioning hand.

I broke my wrist the EXACT same way. My arm literally looked exactly the same. This was the same weekend as Landen broke his too. The hospital sedated me and reset the wrist, but the bones kept moving so I had surgery to put plates and screws in to hold it in place. My wrist is now in the physiotherapy phase, I’m 7 weeks post-op. My wrist is still swollen but it’s straight, nothing like the “fork” fracture before. I hope it heals a little bit better but the hospital for sure should’ve took better action the nigh the broke it.

Lots of people expect their maids to be paid fairly by their employer though. Sometimes people just don't have the money to tip as well.

Only in America are customers expected to know what situations an employee is underpaid by their employer, and magically workout what they “owe” to make up the difference.
Most countries the employer is expected to pay their employees for doing their jobs….which in the case of hotel housekeepers is to clean the room after you leave!

@@bgraham9522 it’s actually not unheard of to tip housekeeping in other countries besides America. We aren’t talking $50 we’re talking $2-$10. It’s a simple courtesy for someone doing dirty work

@@katewillis9470 in most countries tipping is a bonus paid voluntarily by a customer for an exceptional service…not a fee they are often pressured into paying to someone who has done nothing more than the job they are hired to do.
If someone is underpaid in their job that is an employment issue.

That excercises help! I remember thinking it was stupid to just move my leg. I had to do physical therapy though but the most basic excercises is what made me ģet my range of motion 😊. I actually needed surgery but I had scheduled a brain surgery 20 days after I broke my leg so they didn't risk two general anesthesia in 20 days or less. I had my cast extra weeks because of course everyone was more concerned about my brain surgery and recovery. And that extra weeks really messed up my range of motion but I got it back and even without the surgery my leg is fine!! Hoping for a speed recovery sweet boy!! You got this💪

You’re pissed cause they never followed up with your estimate, I had the opposite happen. Got two estimates for something that wasn’t urgent but needed to be done at some point. One was significantly cheaper than the other for the same work. So we never called them back. Until the other day workers just SHOWED UP UNANNOUNCED at our door wanting to do said work! We never called back at all why did they just send people as in good luck we’d say yes spontaneously??

I broke my arm really badly when I was about 8 and I had to have a splint for 3 days, 2 different large casts like landen, and then a short cast and also had surgery before I got my splint. My arm eventually looked similar to the right one (I broke my left arm, dislocated my elbow, and fractured my wrist) however after that it always stayed skinner and and a little more fragile. But it’s completely fine 7 years later and I’ve done every activity imaginable like volleyball. I wish the best for Landen and I hope it heals well!!

I broke my ankle when I was 11 it took a while for the muscles in my legs to even out but still to this day my right leg has a little more muscle than my left. Since he is so young though it should even out eventually. Physical therapy will help a ton though to gain back the muscle he lost. I know he’s going to be back to his old self though! I bet that first scratch felt amazing!

When I'm on a domestic trip in Australia we never tip because in Australia we don't tip, its not expected here like it is in the US. This is because our minimum wage is much MUCH higher than that in the US, tips aren't needed . But when in the US we tip everywhere we go since that's what's expected

Honestly I still get little twinges now and then after 5 years but it is all healed properly so it's fine now. Also really glad to see how well landens arm is healing stay safe lots of love to you all. Xx

Girl you gotta keep on top of contractors. That’s just the way it is. You have to be actively monitoring your project every step of the way. It’s a good lesson for anyone that owns a home. It’s expensive, takes a ton of time, and California has TONS of regulations. Expect to wait weeks for inspections and permits alone. Good luck!

Hi Jess! I broke my wrist around the same age as your son. I developed early arthritis in that wrist and wear a brace occasionally as it flares up with more movement etc. which started when I was in my teens
The pain was so bad I thought I broke my wrist again which was when I found out I developed early arthritis from that break
Nothing too crazy but just a heads up :)

I am glade his arm is better. I had bad foot injury when I was younger and docotor told me no need for physical therapy. Years later went to physical therapy because that and other areas having issues. When talking to physical therapist. She said its always good to get a little physical therapy after breaks to do it to strengthen muscles that where not moved for long time. So I would look into that because that helped so much for me. Hope yall have a good rest of fall season time .

The lines are from the ‘stocking’ they put under the cast and because it’s pushed against the skin for so long it makes an impression. It will be red for a little bit as the blood flow rushes back to those areas. Lots of moisturiser and massaging it into the skin will help

I had a greenstick fracture when I as 10, my arm was set in the exact same position as Landon's. I was due to have surgery but the doctor decided 30 mins before that I would grow out of it and it would straighten as it grew. 20 years later, I can't really tell the difference between the two. I occasionally still get pain from it but I have unusually thin bones anyway so that doesn't really help! Hope Landon gets better and stronger from here!
