A triad is a chord that has three notes that are built from out of a key's diatonic scale. For example, the major triad is built from a; root note, to a major third, and then to a perfect fifth. The Major triads "3rd" and "5th" tones can be pitch modified to produce other triad qualities that include, Minor, Augmented and Diminished. In total, there are four triad qualities in music.
