Several states have violated the Constitution by requiring religious tests as a prerequisite for public office. Previously illegal discrimination on wholly non-religious matters are being permitted unabated. Mega church pastors fly in private jets costing hundreds of millions of dollars that could be put to better use. His ability to understand and articulate the logical conclusion of the 80s GOP is truly astounding. Many others were talking around the issue at the time, seeing the signs and understanding it to a lesser degree. Zappa cut right to the chase and distilled it as if he had a Time Machine. Source?
I'm thinking you might have had in mind these words from James Madison's "Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments":
"If Religion be not within the cognizance of Civil Government how can its legal establishment be necessary to Civil Government? What influence in fact have ecclesiastical establishments had on Civil Society? In some instances they have been seen to erect a spiritual tyranny on the ruins of the Civil authority; in many instances they have been seen upholding the thrones of political tyranny: in no instance have they been seen the guardians of the liberties of the people."
Madison also wrote (same source), "During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution."
Here is an Adams quotation, from his letter to Jedidiah Morse, 5 January 1816:
"To talk or think of liberty, or Privileges, under a military government, is as idle & absurd as under an Ecclesiastical Government."

The Pilgrims were a group of Religious troublemakers who had been thrown out of England. And further back into history; the Catholics ran Europe and started the Crusades - which are still remembered by Muslims today, and on and on. The GOP, as Zappa pointed out, started this modern Crusade - which is causing trouble TODAY - as a reaction to the exciting freedom of behavior begun in the 1950s and 60s, and that freedom and happiness was seen as as a calamity for American churches. So the Preachers - who had recently begun to televise their preaching - began telling their listeners what to do - and found that they could influence elections. The Republicans, who thought of the way young people acted as "just disgraceful" and hated short skirts and guys with long hair, kinda always hung out with those people anyway - the town councils and chambers of commerce were places that politicians hung out; just like churches.☹

But since you utterly abandoned all respect for logic and reason in your haste to show fealty to a 1800 year old cult, I have to ask, what use is debating people? Debate assumes both participants understand and respect logic? Since you've conveniently abandoned logic as a principle, telling someone they're going to hell is tantamount to an ad hominem attack.

Agreed. He would have a field-day with Trump, or maybe not, because Frank tended to go for non-populist things and given there's an avalanche of hate toward Trump already, perhaps Frank might have left his alone. When the Kent State university atrocity occurred, I asked Frank if he would write a song about it. He said, 'no. Other people are already doing it.'

+Paul TheSkeptic The Constitution prevents the GOP from making good on the promises they make to the 6000 year old Earth crowd. That's why the kooks support Ben Carson today. He's correct about the Reagan campaign's strategy. But the GOP is all about enacting policies that support the wealthy donors (something he apparently supports). They talk about marriage, prayer, abortion to get the kooks to vote for them and then they ignore them until the next election. As a result you get Ben Carson who wants God to design his tax plan. The kooks are frustrated. They didn't like a Mormon candidate in the last election.

"But the GOP is all about enacting policies that support the wealthy donors (something he apparently supports). " Nothing at all apparent about that. There's nothing here resembling it. He said 'People like to do business", that the GOP should stick to pro-business, but earlier he says that some Republicans pose as moderate then find out "the Right is paying the freight".

    What comes around goes around.
I became a “Reagan democrat“ in 1980. In 1988 I joined the Republican Party so I could vote for Jack Kemp over then Vice President George Bush in Republican primary election.
I removed myself from the republican party in 2017 when the then republican commander-in-chief said my brother can not serve in the US military simple because they labeled his as a Trans Man.
I love, and respect my brother, he lives by such a upstanding life of code, of honor, and respect. It broke my heart to see him (and others of the Trans Community) so wrongly dishonored.
