      Sin is NOT what society says it is. God and the word of God clearly defines what sin is ~ but you gotta READ the Bible to get it. My cat is a genius compared to these 2 gentlemen and their followers. Frank wrote, played and directed some great music. I wonder how Frank felt about God when he was diagnosed with his terminal prostrate cancer? I wonder how he will feel when he stands in front of the God that that he gleefully denigrated through out his musical life. God will gleefully make it clear to these 2 gentlemen what sin is and who defines sin.

    Sin is a Christian concept. It's a spiritual shortcoming. Any morally wrong action can't be called a "sin" in a secular context. It would be correct to speak of some action being immoral rather than sinful. I love FZ's music and his sharp mind and prescience but it's a mistake to expect him to be brilliant on all subjects. Sin is not a societal construct (it can be, but those “sins” are not necessarily what anyone should be concerned about). The interviewer was in error there, and it seemed like the interview entered a tailspin there. Frank is right to reject societal sins and to “not believe” in them.
    Actual sin is a force at work in human hearts which draws them away from love of the creator towards love of the creation. That sin must be believed in. And if you don’t, you’re like a convict who whimsically doesn’t believe in prison while serving a life sentence.

    • @josephdesimone6599
      @josephdesimone6599 5 лет назад +1

      No, it is not. Historically, we have "curse words" because certain words were actually associated with curses. People believed that the words would bring about curses, and so they were feared and avoided for reasons that were perfectly justifiable within the context of their belief systems. We can certainly make the argument that these belief systems are antiquated and misguided, but nonetheless, they provide a rational framework for the notion of fear and aversion to mere words. If we are going to discuss the absurdity of having "obscene words" in the modern world, then we need to attack the belief systems that were responsible for them, rather than ignorantly presenting these "appeal to the stone" fallacies.

    sin is just another word for offense.. so he's saying he's offended by the idea of offense. everybody is offended by something..even good ole frank. shit man, we live in this world of political correctness that is founded on the idea of offense. we're just as uptight and prudish today as they were in the 1600's.. the only difference is the context and subject/object of the offense. we're still getting offended and ready to symbolically burn somebodies career at the stake.. all a person has to do is say the wrong thing and their professional and personal life is ruined. some scientist says 'global warming is a hoax' and ZANG! CRUCIFYYY!! some scientist disagrees with evolution and POW! BURNNNN!! Some business owner expresses the idea that homosexuality is a life choice and not something your born as and the villagers come running with their pitch forks and torches. I mean shit man, if you cant see the other side of this thing then your not seeing the whole picture and will be susceptible to the same behavior as all those weirdos back during the burning times, crusades, inquisition, pogroms, holocaust, holodomor, "great leap forwards", slavery, or just anything that rules that a human is not a human and therefore can be done with as someone wishes(not unlike something that was made legal in 1973) , .. and if you think it cant lead to people being killed then think again.. it does.

    Sin is specifically a biblical term. It's not equivalent to morality. Morality in the Western Tradition draws from the Ten Commandments specifically, but without the belief in eternal life, there is no point in discussing sin. Denying its significance is simply another way of saying you don't believe in Good and Evil. If you don't believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob then you would have no concept of what sin actually is. Neither Frank Zappa nor the interviewer has any idea as open-minded as they appear to be.

      "It is a notorious fact that the morality of society as a whole is in inverse ratio to its size; for the greater the aggregation of individuals, the more the individual factors are blotted out, and with them morality, which rests entirely on the moral sense of the individual and the freedom necessary for this. Hence, every man is, in a certain sense, unconsciously a worse man when he is in society than when acting alone; for he is carried by society and to that extent relieved of his individual responsibility. . . . Any large company composed of wholly admirable persons has the morality and intelligence of an unwieldy, stupid, and violent animal. The bigger the organization, the more unavoidable is its immorality and blind stupidity. Society, by automatically stressing all the collective qualities in its individual representatives, puts a premium on mediocrity, on everything that settles down to vegetate in an easy, irresponsible way. Individuality will inevitably be driven to the wall. This process begins in school, continues at the university, and rules all departments in which the State has a hand. In a small social body, the individuality of its members is better safeguarded; and the greater is their relative freedom and the possibility of conscious responsibility. Without freedom there can be no morality." ~ Carl Jung (from The Relations Between the Ego and the Unconscious, p.169)

      Well sin is also a tool of manipulation which is used to control others, mainly through guilt. This doesn't necessarily mean that one is a bad person, it is possible not to buy into the idea of sin but still have a moral compass.

      Human made laws too are a tool of manipulation. I would like to rape someone without some lawmen interrupting me with their moral codes. I don't want feel guilty about anything...

      Sin, immorality and unethical behavior mean different things to different people. For me and most people who are not religious, sin and morality are superstitious concepts for people who believe in invisible beings with super powers. Being unethical means that someone did or does something that actually harms somebody or the planet's environment. It is a concept based on compassion not superstition.

    So Gail, when are you going to shut this video down in your effort to erase the heritage of Frank.. Shame on you! You should concentrate on releasing complete shows, letting us fans have what we need, not what you think we need.. Enjoy the royalties, and stay away from the internet!

    God decided what sin is, and if Frank could come back for 5 minutes, he would preach Jesus. Repent while there's still time, life is short.

    Baby Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y.1, Gen Y.2, Gen Z, Millennial, Zillennials, C-19rs, when this video is watched after COVID we all will be a transformed into a different generation, and the video and your comments would be completely misinterpreted. the important thing to do throughout history and from this point forward is, "Do what Jesus tells us to do and we will be okay."
