  • Here is a side-by-side comparison of a guitar speaker cabinet with four 10" speakers and a cabinet with four 12" speakers.
Price, looks and materials didn't matter. I had the 12" speakers as extras. I later purchased the least expensive 10" speakers that I could find. I used 1/4" plywood fastened onto pre-fab bookcases.
If you were to use 2 amplifier heads - one for each cab - you could then tweak the EQ and volume for each cabinet - or have one cab for British sounds, the other for American sounds. Add in effect loops and the sound varieties become practically endless.
It's important to be mindful of the ohms (or "load"), so to protect your amp's transformer, as covered in this video. Being aware of the speaker wattage is also important.
Each cab took about a week to complete. Not counting trips to the store, the most time-consuming tasks were: changing drill bits, measuring and cutting the plywood, glue drying time and checking (and re-checking) my work.
