    You are unflinching in your analysis of the race.. honest to the point of being self critical, and I'm sure that's a part of why you are having the success that you are - you are always taking lessons away from every performance.. its admirable and impressive. Just don't be too hard on yourself, because you're doing an amazing job with the running and making great content! 👍🙏

      There is a fine line between learning lessons and being self critical and I think its crossed when you turn what should be an enjoyable experience into a bad one because of pressure, its a fine line I have straddled in the past but getting better with it. Thanks for the kind words.

    Great recap Darren of pre/during/post race 👍 Nutrition is such a tricky one to get right, it's almost impossible to know what your body will want & not want during these races, fingers crossed for the next race 🏃

      Thanks, nutrition is probably the most frustrating part for me as you can put in plenty of work and come undone by chance.

    Hey Darren, This video just came up on my YT home page. I'm not a trail runner nor will I ever be, but I watched this video from start to finish. Great content, reminding me of 'Ryan Clayton'. Well done on the race!

    Another good video . Tailwind is a mercurial substance . I hear and read of many anecdotal of its all in one , no need for anything else greatness but on the other hand I have seen several friends and competitors come suddenly unstuck when giving it a try .
    I sometimes use it on my daily runs for the electrolytes but personally don’t seem to be able to access energy from it .

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 года назад

      Thanks, couldn't agree more on Tailwind. The stomach and body are so hard to understand. How we absorb nutrients and energy is so personal but I do think the more complex/manufactured products are an issue for me.

      @@DarrenSmithTrailRunning very true for me too.
      I am guilty of being suckered into consumer fetishism. I used to happily run for two hours at a time without carrying a drink or energy gels etc, fueled on just a regular decent diet.
      It was only when I moved on to ultras and the world of running vests, and compulsory kit, that I started confusing myself into the mind boggling array of products. As I was influenced into that way of thinking.
      If anything periods of training with such products seemed to create a sort of dependance and possibly messed up what was previously a quite capable metabolism.

      Agree, its just difficult to fuel a hard effort on the more natural stuff as blood is pulled away from the stomach but thats why I am going back to Spring Energy because it almost entirely natural but in an easy to digest format and great nutritional mix...downside, its bloody expensive :)

    Great video. Horrible when your stomach goes isn't it, very difficult to recover. Only just found your channel by looking for VJ Maxx reviews. Keep cracking away on the content, you deserve way more subscribers. Plus it's good to have some Yorkshire running content.

      Thanks Stu appreciate that, the RUclips algorithm certainly doesn’t make getting seen easy. I am racing the hardwolds 40 tomorrow so hoping to get my stomach something like for that, hopefully have a video out next week 👍

    Try milk Darren.. might be a long shot but it worked for me..really struggled in ultras till I switched to a pint of milk every 8 or so miles.. was a game changer.. can be difficult logistically in the longer mountain ultras to get it ( still got to solve that problem..😂..).. great video .. love your outlook..✋🤝

      Thank you for the comment Tom, appreciate that and the advice too. Very interesting idea, I personally cut out dairy for health reasons a while back so wouldn't work for me but just highlights why its so difficult to find answers, we're all so different :)
