    Thats actually not how you get thru hard soil. You go over it at normal slow speed with depth gauge set to minimum say a 1" or so and allow the tiller to work. Then repeat as many times as you need slowly changing the depth gauge to deeper and deeper until maxd.
    You do not shift it back and forth in and out of gear or jerk it side to side up and down. That's how you break things and wear out clutches etc.

      You should see how long it has taken me to till up about a 5x10 area with a much smaller tiller in carolina clay. About 3 hours....

      Sorry, but it helps if you have some experience using these. You do not take a big bite, especially in hard soil. Take an inch or 2 at a time, and move faster. If you have compost you need to chop us and blend into the soil, then forward tines are your best option. If you are sod-busting, then reverse the times.
      Do not try and take it all in one pass. Let the machine do the work.
      now I have a tiller for my tractor, and I no longer need to rent one. These are worth the money to rent though.

    I actually learned something, thank you. Unlike these other useless videos showcasing these new electric rototillers. I kinda know that the rear tine rototiller was the best option. Now I know for sure which kind I want to buy now

    • @TF856
      @TF856 Год назад

      Definitely, rear tine rototillers are the only ones worth taking home.
      Front tine rototillers are abso-freakin'-lutely total garbage !!!
      They take a lot longer, they are harder to operate, they leave the ground looking really rough and bumpy, you can't run them without leaving footprints in the freshly tilled soil, and they are not self propel, harder to move around and load into trailers, etc.

    Having to till the earth for it to be productive truly is a curse. I’ve tried growing plants to break up the clay and the plant growth is stunted. Now I need to get some big heavy tiller to break the clay and mix in organic material with the clay to make my garden grow better.

      @@rajaiyer79 It ran like butter. It was the easiest part of the whole process of building the garden LOL. Nothing broken, no problems at all. Only issue was the rental company charging me for shit they said they wouldn't (cleaning it, and refilling it). They specifically told me not to clean it because they pay someone to do it for them once things are handed in. I would just clean it and re-fill it before giving it back either way so they don't dick you around like I was. I even re-filled it but they told me I didn't.

      @@rrittenhouse thanks so much! Can I ask you a couple more questions? Did you have to clear the boulders for fear the tines would get ripped up? I felled 25 trees and have tree bark all over. I was wondering if this machine could go right over it or should I buy insurance? Also how much area did you have and how long did it take? Mine is about 1/2 an acre backward and here it costs $105/day or $270 for the week. Was wondering if I should rent for the week to be safe. Thanks in advance and appreciate your advice

    This guy is using a good machine but nobody should try to rototill ground that is too hard or too muddy!!!
    Farmers and professional weed abatement specialists always rototill when the ground is just right.
    They might check the ground with a shovel to see if there's enough moisture without being muddy.
    You should be able to push the shovel into the ground without too much trouble and pull up a shovelful of dirt and turn it over and see if it crumbles easily.

    • @TF856
      @TF856 Год назад

      @Lucas Maclean yes they will grow back, but you have some time to plant the things that you want.
      Deal with the weeds later with weed killer or by cultivating, etc

    • @TF856
      @TF856 Год назад

      @Lucas Maclean I would say that is too far apart.
      People measure seed distance when planting crops but not lawns.
      You can plant several seeds per inch.

    Why do they put the drive lever in the middle so you have to take your hand off the bars to make it go forward? Looks like the dumbest fucking design I've ever seen. I just want a tiller that can move through the lawn and till it thoroughly at at least 1/2 the speed I mow my lawn. Is this really so hard? It doesn't seem like any of these things really make easy work of the job.
