This video demonstrates the process of the creation of “Ocean Round”. As you will see I wasn’t happy the first resin layer I did so I started again. I actually did this layer twice and was still not happy (I didn’t show this disastrous layer- I wiped it off before it cured!) I finally decided to paint over the wave area and start again. I thought it was important to show you that I struggle with resin still!
This painting is one in a series titled “Ocean Dreaming” In this series I explore the beauty and curiosities of the sea. This work was inspired by the many holidays and visits to the beaches of Sydney Australia, the beaches of the far north coast of NSW and the Whitsundays in Queensland.
I have NO AFFILIATION with these products. I list them as many people ask where I get my materials:
Perspex round- perspex supplier (I used a piece I had from a light box) Make sure it is a thick profile.
Blue painters tape, small piece of MDF for back- glued with liquid nails- from the hardware store.
Resinit: gold pigment, Mastercast121 resin www.resinit.com...
Le Rez pigments and pastes in Australia: www.ecwid.com/...
Le Rez pigments and pastes in USA: www.ecwid.com/...
JudiKins Ice Clear Glitter Roxs and Clear Quartz Crystals www.artisue.co...
Gold crackling paste (I painted this on plastic and crackled it off in chips) I used these chips in the sand area at the bottom of the painting: resin-kunst.de...
Krylon UV archival varnish Gloss www.artscene.c...
To hang the painting I stuck some 3M Command No nails hangers (velcrose sticky hangers ) to the wood panel and hung the round on the wall. You can buy them from a hardware store.

You’re so talented! My cousin from Switzerland came here for two weeks, we collected a little sand, some shells, coral, pine cones, gum nuts, I also found a large dried leaf from a banana tree. I placed everything we found in the banana leaf and resined it all in. It looks so good, I’ve got it hanging on the wall.

Living near the ocean ,I really enjoyed this one! I remember you used to put a clear coat of resin over the acrylic painting layer, and now you are using the Krylon Spray Varnish. Is there a particular reason(s) that tells you to use a flood coat or a spray coat or is personal preference ?
