bro my little percussionist girl-friend said she hates me for suggesting this for our middle school jazz band to play because the conga part is pain and suffering
The main melody points are a little too quiet, the background accompaniment keeps overwhelming the Saxophones and or trumpets and possibly trombones if they have a section coming up. Percussion is a little too loud, or the horns are just too quiet in general. Other than that, Harmonies are good, Rhythms, the spunk lip trill chords obviously highlight the mid century jazz form, and the glissandos. Overall very good, but I wish a better recording could be available to go with the sheet music
Im no associate, but I assume these recordings are done by studio musicians sight reading the chart. Although I agree with your points to some degree, I think this is a perfect recording for bandleaders who need a reference when buying the chart.
I love Paul Murtha's arrangements! Even though it's grade 2 music, he always manages to make it sound really good.
Paul Murtha is so cool he taught all regional jazz for my band and he was a great teacher
grade 2?!?!?!?! Im playing this in my 8th grade top band
grade 2?!?!?!?! Im playing this in my 8th grade top band
@@dennismora08 I’m playing this in 11th grade
@@dennismora08
Music grade is not equivalent to school grade. Most 8th grade school ensembles play grade 2-3 pieces
I like how this song shows the saxophones and puts everything else as bass
wdym?
1:11 this is my favorite part, the calming, soothing sound of the sax’s. Then they sort of punch you in the throat with these descending notes
As an alto sax, i see this as a total win
@@Camryn._.DevlinYeah I play alto sax aswell, and I wish I sounded like this
