I just got a 2022 4Runner a couple weeks ago. Yesterday I asked my self “So where are the front recovery points?” I was disappointed to discover there aren’t any but this product looks like it would solve that problem. Well done! My only comment is that cool as those bell shackles look, it’s probably better to stow them inside and away from the elements until you actually need them. If looks were my priority, I’d replace the front bumper and have a winch (that I’d hope to never use).
I just got mine in...having them Linex'd in red. Can't wait to install them. Thank you Kyle for the smooth purchase and shipping. Thank you Trail or Sail for the install process. I hope to install next week!
Just be careful not to put a heavy coat of line-x in the bolt through holes! Those things are made to fit the bolt, and digging Line-X out would be a pain!
@@TrailorSailYT Oh without a doubt LineX will put to much in there...they did the same for my RCI rear diff skid plate. I'll have some shaving to do. I truly appreciate the install video...I will have a hurdle trying to install the rear bolt with my coilover reservoir mounted on the chassis.
You may want to contact Kyle at Treaty Oak Offroad... I don't see any functional differences in the frame that would prevent it from happening, but I also don't have a 2021 to look over closely.
@@offshorebear I'd still let him know. Manufacturers don't test fit everything every time. So, he won't know there is a problem unless you let him know.
Why not just fold or bend the rod of the floating bolt and stick it in the hole rather than breaking if off. Someday you just might have to remove the plate. I've worked on many aircraft and we use these a lot. Typically we just "snip it and tuck it" or so they say. Looks like a good set up, however, personally, I'd like to see all 3 holes in the bracket utilized if possible. I guess if you are just dressing up your mall crawler its okay, but if you are really stuck and need a pull, there is never enough insurance for a proficient extraction. Just my opinion... carry on.
Honestly, this was my first time utilizing this kind of "in frame" nut. If I remember correctly, the holes being used here are corresponding to those on the frame for the 4Runner. The unused hole in the product is to utilize a hole in the GX470/GX460 frame. Cheers! - Mark
Did mine yesterday, no need to lift and remove a wheel (my jack stands are being used for another job). The plastic plate coving the access point is probably not surviving the procedure, I only have 5k on my runner, so it’s not the miles making the plastic brittle ... nothing that can’t be fixed with some high speed tape.
That's disappointing, but it is made to be in the wheel wells. So, maybe they justify the brittle clips based on their cost? Makes me wonder how much those little plastic clips are...
The loop on the vehicle from the factory is actually a tie-down point. It isn't made to hold the strain of a recovery - especially when coupled with the weight of all our added accessories - winch, bumpers, skids, fuel cans, cargo, roof rack, and all that stuff...
How do you like the LFD skid plate? Been looking real hard on them for the kdss version but I only see four mounting points, other brands have six. What are your thoughts? Thanks
Yes, absolutely. We actually just removed them this past month after a deer accident. They are still in great shape, but we may not put them back on since our new bumper takes care of our needs for recovery points.
@@TrailTape I could sell them, but I don't have the original "in-frame" bolts you would need to install them. That's a big need as you can't mount them without these. Where are you located (out of curiosity for shipping estimates)?
@@TrailorSailYT Ah, good call on the hardware. They'd be useless without correct mounting and I don't see an option on their website to purchase an extra hardware kit. I'm in AL
Yeah... looks like it would be between $35 and $50 to ship that way. I would contact Kyle at Treaty Oak Off Road to see what is available on his end first.
I am not sure if my 2020 4Runner is different from most but on the driver's side the recovery point would not fit. I had to take a round file and enlarge one side of the holes on the plate for the bolts to be able to fit into the holes on the frame.
You can reach out to Treaty Oak Offroad for more information on that. My notes from this install are in the void of the mess that is my garage currently.
I don't see why not, but the limiting (no pun intended) on the Limited will probably be the bumper skirt. Recoveries using any undercarriage recovery point will definitely damage the Limited bumper.
Man so simple yet effective!!
simple and strong!!! Kyle tests these things to make sure they are stronger than your 4Runner.

True. the bow shackles in this video were mostly to show that true recovery points were there - not the delivery tie-down points.

@UCf1pMquuc1H5W4DHkMXFVCw Definitely, but I think it can be done.
@@TrailorSailYT I might ping folks for help if I'm unable to mitigate. 😁
That screw has got to be a challenge to get started.
It was - no lie there.
Wow this looks like an actual front recovery point, I see many people just putting shackles directly on the front tie down points
Yeah... I am guilty of doing that... I can admit that was definitely the wrong thing to do. Thankfully now I don't have to worry about that anymore.
You did a great job with the video.
Thank you!
Not that anything changed, but has anyone installed this on a 2021 trd off road or Venture?
You may want to contact Kyle at Treaty Oak Offroad... I don't see any functional differences in the frame that would prevent it from happening, but I also don't have a 2021 to look over closely.
Are they compatible with Toyota 4 runner with KDSS?
I am told that they are.
Driver's side won't work.
@@offshorebear Have you tried talking to Kyle at Treaty Oak Offroad?
@@TrailorSailYT no. It took me a year to eventually try to install these. I will just use one on passanger side.

Any torque values or just “tight as hell” value?

what is the issue with factory recovery point , what is the difference ?
The loop on the vehicle from the factory is actually a tie-down point. It isn't made to hold the strain of a recovery - especially when coupled with the weight of all our added accessories - winch, bumpers, skids, fuel cans, cargo, roof rack, and all that stuff...
The difference with these is how they distribute the weight across the connection points on the frame while not having any flex to them.
How do you like the LFD skid plate? Been looking real hard on them for the kdss version but I only see four mounting points, other brands have six. What are your thoughts?

We absolutely love them. I am going to be taking them off to clean them up and retouch the paint on them. I'll be doing a video about that soon.
What size shackles are those?
Does this work on a KDSS truck?
Can these be used with a factory bumper?
Yep. These are installed on mine with the factory bumper and a high clearance cut. however, the cut bumper does not affect these.
Does it work for KDSS
That's a good question - I don't have KDSS. So, I'll need to ask Kyle with Treaty Oak Offroad... I'll respond here once I hear back.
I heard back from Kyle (He is presently at FJ Summit!!!) - It does work with KDSS!!!
yes it does!! I just ordered mine last week and I have KDSS.
They look great but at 150 bones for an unpainted metal bracket.. i think im gonna pass on that
i made my own for like 50 bucks lol
@@jayb7796 I’m going to guess it would cost me over $100 to buy the tools you needed to roll your own. I get your point though.
Thanks for the detailed install video! Are you still happy with them, 3 years later?
Yes, absolutely. We actually just removed them this past month after a deer accident. They are still in great shape, but we may not put them back on since our new bumper takes care of our needs for recovery points.
@@TrailorSailYT So they're for sale? 😜 Too bad shipping would probably be quite expensive. Maybe use a flat rate box haha

Do we have to take off the tire during the installation?
I guess you don't truly have to, but it definitely makes things much easier to do.
I just did mine, without removing the wheels, totally reasonable. Just turn the steering wheel to the stop of access

I had to do the same thing with my 2020 4Runner.. just on the drivers side.
I had no issues on my 2020 TRD ORP 4 Runner.
Man yhank god u didnt say 10mm socket
LMAO - RIGHT?!?!? No one knows where the last one went!!!
any idea on size for those two bolts at the front and back?
You can reach out to Treaty Oak Offroad for more information on that. My notes from this install are in the void of the mess that is my garage currently.
after some trial and error at my local Ace Hardware, it appears these are M12 bolts with a 1.25 pitch.
For a 2018 4Runner that is. Could be different on other models.
I just ordered mine and I cant wait to get them. What brand and kind of paint did you use for the recovery points??
We used a spray on Krylon Farm and Implement Troy Bilt Red from Lowe's
Will this work on a limited?
I don't see why not, but the limiting (no pun intended) on the Limited will probably be the bumper skirt. Recoveries using any undercarriage recovery point will definitely damage the Limited bumper.
Where can I order the kit?
TreatyOakOffroad.com
Just 2 bolts? Seems like a true recovery would have more
Most don't... Also, these bolts are extremely high grade.
Those two bolts will handle the job very easily.
Nice info and video. Do you have to remove the bumper?
Not for this install - just removing the wheel to make it easier to get to everything.
Great video but where do I by these at?
these are available from www.treatyoakoffroad.com or more specifically www.treatyoakoffroad.com/product/gx460-5th-gen-4runner-recovery-point
