      Look, only around 6% of adults work and go to school full time. Plus, around 40% of all jobs have shifts controlled by employers, according to bls. Even if you were lucky to get a job that schedules around your full time classes at college, you would have no time to do anything else but work and study.
      2 hours is recommended per class, each day, for studying. Standard is around 14 hours per week. Then you add at least twice that time added onto studying and HW. So about 14 + 28 = 42. So, you would have an 80hr week. Each week you spend awake 16 hours awake 7 days a week. 16 * 7 is 112 hours per week. However, you have to account for commute, getting ready for waking up, and sleep, plus eating.

      And, of course, you will be behind any rich family who has their kid focus exclusively on skilled work most of their life, followed by connections that you would never dream of having. Trying to work hard will always leave you, at best, second best. And if you're not already connected, you will be not be likely a candidate for fortune 100 companies, or let alone fortune 500 companies.

      At 18 I was still a junior in high school xD graduated at 19 1/2 and spent 8 months in China afterwards(ended that with 0/0 made enough money to pay for all my expenses+flight etc). Gotta start Uni in the fall this year at 20 1/2. :) pretty financially stable I guess. Still looking for a job to do on the weekends or sth to afford living, but besides that I have a couple K saved up from working and I should finish college debt free (I am kinda cheating though, Germany doesn't have tuition, just 500-800bucks a year in administrative fees.) :) i still need to use 1600 (so expensive) of my savings at some point to do drivers ed and get my license... jut that can wait xD I don't need a car, Germany has public transport.

I have an Associates Degree in Media Commuications/Marketing and my pay scale is comparable to my coworkers who are drowning in college debt. Awesome! Yes, I was hired by FedEx Ground as a part-time Package Handler in the evenings and quickly moved to different positions and got full time status as I went to school during the day. One of FedEx’s recruitment lines was that they would help pay for my school as long as I passed the class I could submit a reimbursement request. So after every semester I submitted all my paperwork and got a reimbursement, I did sign a contract that I would stay employed with them a year after my last reimbursement check was distributed and I honored that contract. I got my degree but I was not willing to move out of State to get a position that I wanted so I applied to other types of jobs in my area and landed an excellent starter job for an organization for which I am now doing my dream job. It was a sad day when I put in my two week notice with FedEx but they all knew I was looking for another job and they understood and were very supportive of my goals! Best Managers I ever had, I still communicate with a lot of my co-workers and bosses! When I retire from my current job I plan to work for FedEx again working in a specialized field of course for the right pay. 😉
    Great Company! Very Fast Pace and You Gotta produce and you are held accountable for your work so you do your job right! God Bless Them!

    I’m in the same situation. I’m 21 years old and I’ve worked at UPS for 2 years now and they pay up to $25,000 for college tuition lifetime. You work for them and get pay checks every week and in return they pay for your school. BUT, you pay up front and they reimburse you after you pass your classes. I’m in community college and have only a $5,500 loan that is at about $6,000 with interest right now but I’ll be paying that off shortly.

    Good work. However, he should be careful he does not burn out when he's working 40 hours / week, plus full-time studies. Also worked extra when I went to university in order to avoid student loans. So I know the workload it requires. He should see it as a marathon and it's important to find a pace that he can hold the whole race. My tip would be to work max 100 hours / mo during the semester, get down his fixed expenses (housing, transportation, food ...), learn speed reading and making mind maps ...

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 9 лет назад +7

      It is not that you have a big workload. It is really the psychology of what you are doing. You are putting stress upon your self.
      Today I study and work more than I done in university 20 years ago but it was a lot harder back then because I was under psychological stress. Which is self induced obviously.

    • @mike81psy
      @mike81psy 9 лет назад +18

      bighands69 My experience as a full time student and work at the same time required a huge effort. It is also dangerous if you can not handle all the stress it creates. For example, regularly have trouble sleeping is a big warning signal that something is wrong.

    Advise for College students. Persue a recognised certification with CO-OP training, that will help pay for your tuition.

    40hrs A WEEK!!!! At FedEX! That is a tremendous amount of work! HARD WORK!
    I used to work at the UPS in Louisville. Hardest work of my life! And that counts when I was in the Army!

    And remember, the Maricopa community College district is huge and all the courses transfer between the schools. You can mix and match courses across multiple schools and still get your degree.

    Does Dave or Team ever follow up on awesome stories like these a few years later? It'd be a great addition/segment to their show.

    its been a while but the first two years are different then the last two years since the coarse are easier and most community colleges let you look up the answers to test if you take them online. of course some colleges like mine dont have online for higher end like junior and senior and you have to go to school which is fine but they are from 4-6:50 once a day. Personally I think he got lucky or will have to give up his job.

    im 17 a semester ahead of my class at a community college; Im majoring in computer science, and i'm working at the IT department at my school. I was going to work for UPS since they have the same tuition reimbursement but financial aid is paying for all my classes and books.
    --I heard that tuition reimbursement is only for when you use your own money? is this true?
