Good to see that Bomb Squad is still an interesting move to mess around with in the remake. Also, yeah, that third fight shows exactly why I refuse to start boss fights in Peril.
The audience members get back to live after the fights. I can confirm this by the fact that Luigi can be eaten by a piranha plant and we can still see him in Rogueport. @Koopatrol
@@nfcrafty5847 Yea but it's not the same you come up with other strategies that make it easy again. If you completely nuder yourself it just becomes a slog
Well, TTYD was never really designed with veterans in mind to begin with. It's very much meant to be a beginner's RPG. However, with how much flexibility its gameplay systems provide, I find that it still has a lot of challenge running potential.
I'm glad to see you back in my recommended now that the remaster is out! I used to watch a bunch of your challenges and boss battle videos and they were so good and high quality!

According to my achievements list that I'm doing on my other channel's _x2 Combo_ playthrough, that last strat was a "One-Turn Liberation! - Win battles without the enemy ever getting their turn" (Mario technically had _three_ turns, but Cortez's got skipped by _phase changes_ rather than status effects, so I'd count it!)
@@GlitchythePumpkin Yeah, that'd be mine. I mostly do my browsing and commenting on WackoMcGoose, my personal account, while keeping my actual uploads to the one I'm commenting from now 👍

In all seriousness, this guy and the other fight after this are utter jokes as bosses. The fact that the boss in chapter 2 is stronger than both of these bosses is funny to me.
A lot of battle timings definitely changed, and not _only_ because of the 30fps thing. The _fourth_ Power Bounce now has to be _frame perfect_ regardless of enemy, while the fifth allows multiple diminishing frames before back to frame-perfect on the eighth(?) onward... that's just the most obvious one I know of.

My rules for doing a peril setup before the fight are : if it's optimal, do it (unless you want a challenge) but I like the first peril setup because it's interesting to use the enemy attack + the spike unlike all the double dip point swap stuff
Hey Koop, need your help here - In the remake, Double Pain's description was updated to talk about having more than one, and the Wiki says multiple can be obtained now... But makes no mention of where or how to do so? Seriously I can't find the answer to this anywhere.
What is the name of the music that plays outside of his ship? Like, before you enter the fight? And the music that plays for the rest of chapter 4 after the 1st Doopliss fight?
I always felt Cortez was just too fragile to be a main chapter boss. Even without Power or Mega Rush, you can still reliably destroy each of his forms with a few Spin Jumps or badge attacks within three or four turns. Sure, he can still hit hard (and even then, you can guard or super-guard to minimize damage taken), but if he doesn't get a chance to attack (especially after he's changed forms), well... you know how it goes. If he had at least 35 HP for each form, then he might be threatening enough for a chapter boss.
I think he's a little weak because you have to go straight into Crump 2 without a heal right afterwards. At least, I don't think you get a heal? I already forgot and I just beat the remake like a week ago lul
@@plushifoxedyou can actually move around a bit before going back to ship, characters on the "town" area has unique dialog if you talk to them while the island is under attack too if i remember correctly
Definitely agree, the boss progression is a little wonky overall. You get Grubba at 60 HP which is cool, makes it a bit scary especially since we don't have power lift yet. Then, however, it feels like Doopliss is a pushover and then Cortez too. Both could use more HP for sure. While Cortez's total at 60 is decent, 20 per phase is really low, that's less (AND less attack!) than the Koopinator we face in Chapter 3 lol.
Yeah, TTYD is weird in terms of difficulty. Hooktail is a joke with the badge which is fair, but then in chapter 2 Magnus Von grapple is just as much of a joke even without a badge. Suddenly Macho Grubba spikes from 2/1 30 HP the last chapter to 4/0 60 HP with the ability to boost. Then Doopliss and Cortez/Crump are jokes, the former being weaker than a miniboss and the latter 2 at least matching Grubbas power but only technically matching Grubbas bulk because multiple phases. It's only with Smorg that something resembling an ordinary difficulty curve comes back.
Now the remake is out, I look forward to playing this game someday... But it's going to be so hard to not go into each boss fight with a specific solution from your channel, or just throwing myself at the boss on 1 hp and seeing if they instantly fall over or not.
I recommend trying to just go in without prep the first playthrough, its definitely fine to go in peril and see, but I prefer just going in full health the first time to get accustomed to guard timings and the such

They should have made a Superboss version of him.
