  • It is July 4 and it’s going to be a hot one today. Just a few updates on how the gardens are doing.
The cut the flower variety snaps are doing great! I’m truly hoping next year I will be able to successfully grow snapdragons from seed. I think it’s really interesting though to see the difference between the cut flower varieties with their amazing growth and the shorter home varieties.
Dahlias are also doing well. I have pinched off the new tubers that I planted a little while ago to encourage more growth. I am also starting to disbud the flower stems by removing the additional buds that are blooming off of the main stock. This should encourage larger blooms of the main stem flower.
Cosmos have finally come out! I plan to start cutting on these even if the flowers are not bloomed as the greenery is just stunning and would look great in any bouquet.
The row is also doing well. I am hoping the seeds that we planted start to progress a little quicker now that they have been pinched off. The new seedlings are cut flower variety seeds, and will hopefully see substantial growth.
The sunflower bed is just looking fantastic! We have added netting to that bed to help support the flowers as they grow.
Overall, I’m fairly pleased with how everything is growing. I am enjoying all of the blossoms and flowers that have produced so far. And I truly have learned a lotfor next year’s planting.
