    Yes, that's exactly what I do. I usually go from second, to first and then to reverse. If I have been in first gear for a while and then go into reverse, the gearbox spins again and the reverse gear refuses. So I always shift into a synchronized forward gear and then reverse.
    Highlighted is this problem when it's extremely cold, than the reverse gear won't engage at all. Then I have to move off in second, move off in first and then I can change into reverse.

    Shifting to reverse before starting the engine only masks the issue, and your car may jump in reverse and hit someone/something,
    You are also causing more wear on your starter/battery. As the starter motor attemptint to move the car (cause clutch is partially engaged not fully released still has some friction and attempting to move the gearbox internals)
    most likely your issues are in the clutch hydraulics or pedal or clutch cable if it's old car. if its hydraulics maybe it needs bleeding if air got into the fluid.

    • @CharouBoi
      @CharouBoi  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you, I have checked and repositioned the clutch and adjusted the travel for the master cylinder with no improvement. It does not jump or move, it has a slight drag that causes the transmission to spin.

    • @MailboxReviews
      @MailboxReviews 6 месяцев назад

      @@CharouBoi if i was you, i would take extra care regardless of what is the actual issue. if it was hydraulic issue, it can go conpletely bad without warning.
      The next day you start your car it will jump and may hit someone / something. all of the sudden
      you can't predict these failures at all, sometimes they are weather related and gets worse in summer or winter due to fluid viscosity.
      I would keep my foot firmly on the brake pedal, have the parking brake on anytime i am in gear with clutch pushed in.
      Take care and stay safe, but this needs to be addressed due to safety related concerns.

    • @MailboxReviews
      @MailboxReviews 6 месяцев назад

      @@CharouBoi Could be wraped flywheel?! or has some high spots due to uneven heat or bad handling (clutch dumps, hard starts, racing) that is an extreme sitiuation though.
      Check to make sure the clutch fork and slave cylinder (if it was external is moving enough to release the clutch correctly)
      not sure if you tried bleeding the system, does the pedal have any freeplay especially at the begining from the top ?
      Anything can be wromg even if the Bolts torque on the flywheel and pressure plate is not enough
      would cause issues.

  • @averyalexander2303
    @averyalexander2303 2 года назад +13

    That's a great tip but if you don't want to destroy your transmission I would suggest fixing this properly as soon as possible. Although the forward gears don't grind since they have synchronizers, that excessive clutch/pilot bearing drag will cause a lot of stress on the synchronizers since they will be trying to speed up/slow down the mass of the entire engine which they can not do without suffering from excessive wear. The effect is the same as not pressing the clutch fully during shifts. Once the synchronizers are worn out, the forward gears will start grinding too and the only way to fix it will be to rebuild or replace the transmission. In the long run, it's much easier and cheaper to fix the clutch problem than destroy the transmission.

      @@iCSRify No worries, it may be worth to double check the engine mounts even though they said they were good
      my symptom with another fwd car(2006 Byd F3 chinese clone of the corolla) was if you popped the hood and let somsone check engine movements while handbrake is up both in reverse and 1st nothing is showing up at all, but if i tried to start from 0 with say 700-1200 RPM It shakes and clunks really bad i have to rev it to say 1600 1800 rpm and ease out on the clutch.
      How i discovered my mounts were bad is below.
      since fwd/awd cars are using what is called remote shifter, basically the shifter is always bolted down and doesn't move but the engine and gearbox has soft mounts to absorb all the vibrations, one way to test the mounts kill the engine, leave it in 1st gear on a flat surface with handbrake/parking brake off pop the hood/bonnet go outside and rock the car really hard back and forth, if you notice massive movement in the engine the mounts are shot
      mounts sometimes don't show any sumptoms if you rev it enough before taking off, high load and low rpm can cause vobrations and noise when accelerating from 0
      since you mentioned your car rolls fine in reverse, but when you get to some speed it grinds(probably pops out of gear also) try to be really gentle when accelerating backwards, avoid sudden throttle inputs and be linear with the throttle, does it grind and tries to popout be halfway in gear?
      TL;DR: Check engine/Trans mount.
      check shifter bushings from both ends (interior of the car) and gearbox shifter cables ends
      i am confident it's probably mounts issue.
      Does holding pressure on shifter helps?! will it stop the grinding?
      otherwise you may have internal issue in the gearbox (shifter forks or some other stuff , i am not sure honestly)
      Best of Luck, Stay Safe.

    Here's a trick for most of the people with reverse issues, change your transmission fluid.

      Trans fluid sometimes work. The issue I have was clutch dragging that causes the grinding. I have changed Trans fluid, did nothing.

      if it's manual and is in this case it does not have transmission fluid, that is for automatic transmissiions

    Could also just be that your clutch cable needs adjustment, in the case of a cable clutch.
    Or if you have a hydraulic clutch, you might need either a new slave or master cylinder, or maybe you just need to bleed the clutch fluid.

    626k miles wtf😂

  • @tylerwilliams1532

    I call bullshit on it grinding because it's got high mileage... 627km is roughly 389mi.... I had a 1988 Honda dax and it had foreign 12,000 miles on the original transmission when mother got changed I just rebuilt the transmission because I was already in there & warned to avoid any future problems...No grinds, popouts, throwout bearing noise, or clutch chatter... So get out my face with that bullshit...
