maybe it should be mentioned, that it might be required to have a network driver avaialble on the USB drive. My NIC was not working so I had to download the driver and copy to the USB drive to be able to communicate. jfyi
I would like to see a more business-focussed installer option. Imagine having to go and install the agent on 25 or 50 or more computers, and having to manually enter in the FQDN/IP of the NAS, username, and password (something you don't want to hand out to users to do). Then when anything significant changes, having to re-enter that information. Need the option to deploy silently, with all credential and IP information embedded.
@@PFCKutzner Orca.exe, the win32 app, lets you edit installers to include the information @lowellp7275 mentioned. You can encode the FQDN/IP, username, password, etc., into the installer, and then push that version of the installer out to all of your devices via AD/GPO if you're in a HAADJ environment. In AADJ-only I would assume you could set it up as an app available through Intune and push that way as well. With the information already encoded in the installer any silent switches added to mass deploy the installer will automatically proceed and configure itself correctly. Same thing could be accomplished with third-party tools, I outlined Microsoft only tools above, but for example: PDQ Deploy, ConfigMgr/SCCM, probably ManageEngine has something but lol, etc. etc.

Are you saying that Active Backup for Business works outside of the LAN? I can't find anywhere on Synology's website that explains if the feature requires licenses or not, but if it doesn't require licenses and it is basically free image backup, I ain't gonna complain.

Why do you have to create a bootable USB drive? You should be able to use the ISO from your NAS over ethernet.

You can't go to a smaller drive. It warns you in the software.
