Another thought Mutya may not sing the later songs as well as Amelle eg.. from "Change" forward.

Mutya is rich and soulful, the most distinctive Sugababe. That comparison is not fair to Amelle, who's also a great singer, but very different voice - lighter and smoother, but also with character. Amelle did great as a last minute replacement, she did blend with other girls, and made it possible for the group to go on when Mutya fled unexpectedly.
The original vocal always wins,whether its Mutya or Amelle originally. Mutya Keisha & Siobhan have amazing harmonies but Mutya Keisha & Heidi I reckon were the best line up.

Mutya has definitely better technique to her voice, so her voice sounds live very smooth and relaxed. On the other hand, Amelle is also great performer, but she had to sing Mutya's verses, because she basicaly replaced her. For me, that was the main problem, because her voice is totaly different thing, more raspy and agressive to Mutya, so I think that's the main reason why Amelle didn't sound as good as Mutya. Both of them have different qualities, so there's no need to compare them. Both of them did a pretty god job as the members of Sugababes. Everyone just brought their own style, voice and beauty and everytime it looked different but amazing!

No contest MUTYA tone is next level. Her use of vibrato much more controlled and better riffs. Amelle doesn't have a full urban vocal styling that this group is built on.

It's a little unfair to draw comparisons as these songs were written with Mutya's voice in mind and here ability to sing the lower parts. Amelle is a good singer, you can see what she can really do when you see her sing the Spotlights and Catfights songs live that she co-writes. Objectively speaking though, Mutya is much more natural, effortless and distinctive. I can't think of one moment where she sings out of tune or makes any mistakes vocally. It's rare that a singer actually sounds better live, but she does, which says a hell of a lot.
Mutya really has one of the best tones I have ever heard so it's nearly impossible to beat her. But ppl really give a hard time to the other one, she actually sounds amazing.

"Get Sexy" is absolute trash, Mutya would never lower herself to sing such a generic dull repetitive song. Anyway, she would sound amazing singing those other songs as well considering that Amelle, after all, was chosen for her similar husky tone. The difference is that Mutya sounds more distinct, has a more pleasant huskiness to her tone and is a far better singer live with a very consistent and controlled voice.
Tino - wrong, the songs are higher than where mutya is comfortable in her range. She is a better overall singer but these clips show Amelle in a really poor light as they’re lower than her comfortable range which is slightly higher than Mutyas
@@18sean88 Mutya doesn't possess a great range but there's something called "lowering the key in a song", hence why she can face any song of the group in which she didn't sing originally. We're not talking about an enormous difference in terms of octaves, she isn't supposed to sing Keisha's high parts. Moreover in several songs Amelle's role was singing the low notes (Never Gonna Dance Again, Undignified and more) and Mutya can easily replace her in those songs. At the other hand, Amelle paled in comparison with Mutya when she covered her solo parts. She can hit low notes but she lacks Mutya's consistency and tone.

I wouldn't say she sounds awful. When Amelle is being Amelle her voice is great but when she tries to replicate Mutya's vocals it sounds bad. You gotta remember she came in to fill the gap that Mutya left and the Album still had 2 more singles to release when she came into the picture. She was trying to do her best to fill Mutya's spot but when she got her chance to show what she could do (Red Dress) she showed she could hold her own
Mutya and Amelle have a very similar tone of voice, I remember when I was new to Sugababes and wasn't familiar with the line-up changes, I thought they were the same person for a time lol just because they were both brunettes and sounded very similar. Obviously the difference is clear now, Mutya is a powerhouse, but I do think they got the best replacement they could find in Amelle tone-wise
Muyta definitely. Didn't like Amelles vocals at all. I felt like she was trying to hard. 100per cent preferred the original members and as someone said in the comments they just had the more popular songs when Heidi was with them , songs Siobhan would have had if she had stayed with the girls. The original girls sounded so unique together and that was why people liked them. Muyta is absolutely brilliant, there was no replacing her I felt.
So when the song and that part has been made for mutya voice its going to sound alot better than amelle as it wasn't originally recorded for her voice but if you listen to about you now it suits amelle perfect like there song change
I just don't think that Amelle has the control, warmth or depth. And honestly, live, she's kind of flat, and most vowel sounds come out as "ah"s (e.g. in Ugly, you get "stahl" for "style", "ah" for "I"). Not all of them, but more than Mutya does. I feel a bit mean saying it, but she gets a lot of the intervals wrong by a semitone or so. I had wondered if part of the reason she was picked was a slightly similar look to Mutya (olive toned skin, dark hair, large dark eyes) In fairness, if she's trying to sing in a key that's unnatural for her, I can understand it. But I did feel like she struggled with the existing repertoire.
Well, it is not politically correct, but Sugababes were basically the " black girl/white girl/brown girl" trio. When Heidi replaced Sihobhan, you could still think it was a coincidence. Then Amelle came, and despite finding an asian girl they choose a girl not so far physically wise. Pretty obvious in Taller in more ways era, then after Amelle looked less like a Mutya clone. About singing, she indeed had this nasal way of pronouncing I often found pretty unpleasant. But somehow she didn't do SO bad considering they are not a lot of people who can replicate Mutya tone.

Amelle has great breathing control, good support, a feeling of forward clarity and lightness in the voice, a healthy tone onset and understanding and having an imaginative picture of the vocal space, and … many years of structured vocal training she is amazing. I really love her tone. Amelle killed her parts. Amelle sang to better, hands down.

It's a little unfair to draw comparisons as these songs were written with Mutya's voice in mind and here ability to sing the lower parts. Amelle is a good singer, you can see what she can really do when you see her sing the Spotlights and Catfights songs live that she co-writes. Objectively speaking though, Mutya is much more natural, effortless and distinctive. I can't think of one moment where she sings out of tune or makes any mistakes vocally. It's rare that a singer actually sounds better live, but she does, which says a hell of a lot.
Mutya really has one of the best tones I have ever heard so it's nearly impossible to beat her. But ppl really give a hard time to the other one, she actually sounds amazing.
Basically, I love them both and I think they're good at their own singing but if I have to choose one it would be Mutya. Anyway, Amelle slays " Red Dress"

"Get Sexy" is absolute trash, Mutya would never lower herself to sing such a generic dull repetitive song. Anyway, she would sound amazing singing those other songs as well considering that Amelle, after all, was chosen for her similar husky tone. The difference is that Mutya sounds more distinct, has a more pleasant huskiness to her tone and is a far better singer live with a very consistent and controlled voice.
Tino - wrong, the songs are higher than where mutya is comfortable in her range. She is a better overall singer but these clips show Amelle in a really poor light as they’re lower than her comfortable range which is slightly higher than Mutyas
@@18sean88 Mutya doesn't possess a great range but there's something called "lowering the key in a song", hence why she can face any song of the group in which she didn't sing originally. We're not talking about an enormous difference in terms of octaves, she isn't supposed to sing Keisha's high parts. Moreover in several songs Amelle's role was singing the low notes (Never Gonna Dance Again, Undignified and more) and Mutya can easily replace her in those songs. At the other hand, Amelle paled in comparison with Mutya when she covered her solo parts. She can hit low notes but she lacks Mutya's consistency and tone.
xxxTIN0xxx re-read my comment, Amelle doesn’t have as low as voice so obviously she isn’t going to hit those notes comfortably. The fact she hits “lower” notes in the songs you mention is irrelevant, those notes aren’t as low as mutyas parts in the others songs as they’re in a key for Amelles voice
Mutya for life...Flawless voice, smooth, perfect technique (i think the doesnt even need technique) so...flawless in studio and live, Amelle - not bad...studio ok, not flawless, live - tryhard, weak voice, sometimes off the key

I wouldn't say she sounds awful. When Amelle is being Amelle her voice is great but when she tries to replicate Mutya's vocals it sounds bad. You gotta remember she came in to fill the gap that Mutya left and the Album still had 2 more singles to release when she came into the picture. She was trying to do her best to fill Mutya's spot but when she got her chance to show what she could do (Red Dress) she showed she could hold her own

Mutya and Amelle have a very similar tone of voice, I remember when I was new to Sugababes and wasn't familiar with the line-up changes, I thought they were the same person for a time lol just because they were both brunettes and sounded very similar. Obviously the difference is clear now, Mutya is a powerhouse, but I do think they got the best replacement they could find in Amelle tone-wise

Muyta definitely. Didn't like Amelles vocals at all. I felt like she was trying to hard. 100per cent preferred the original members and as someone said in the comments they just had the more popular songs when Heidi was with them , songs Siobhan would have had if she had stayed with the girls. The original girls sounded so unique together and that was why people liked them. Muyta is absolutely brilliant, there was no replacing her I felt.

I just don't think that Amelle has the control, warmth or depth. And honestly, live, she's kind of flat, and most vowel sounds come out as "ah"s (e.g. in Ugly, you get "stahl" for "style", "ah" for "I"). Not all of them, but more than Mutya does. I feel a bit mean saying it, but she gets a lot of the intervals wrong by a semitone or so. I had wondered if part of the reason she was picked was a slightly similar look to Mutya (olive toned skin, dark hair, large dark eyes)
In fairness, if she's trying to sing in a key that's unnatural for her, I can understand it. But I did feel like she struggled with the existing repertoire.
Well, it is not politically correct, but Sugababes were basically the " black girl/white girl/brown girl" trio. When Heidi replaced Sihobhan, you could still think it was a coincidence. Then Amelle came, and despite finding an asian girl they choose a girl not so far physically wise. Pretty obvious in Taller in more ways era, then after Amelle looked less like a Mutya clone.
About singing, she indeed had this nasal way of pronouncing I often found pretty unpleasant. But somehow she didn't do SO bad considering they are not a lot of people who can replicate Mutya tone.

Amelle has great breathing control, good support, a feeling of forward clarity and lightness in the voice, a healthy tone onset and understanding and having an imaginative picture of the vocal space, and … many years of structured vocal training she is amazing. I really love her tone.
