Lego Town & City suck!

- Answering one of the most frequent questions i get. Why do i hate Town & City? Because they're bland. I'm prepared to 1v1 anyone who disagrees (in league of legends of course)
Brickscraft channel - / @brick_crafts
Thank you for all the support fellas, hitting 10k is like a dream come true! I hope you all stay with me as i have some rather unique ideas planned for the future.
Thanks for watching fellas and i hope to see you all next week.
City/Town has kind of been a real hit or miss as it goes on. And the crime rate is pretty high too.
🤣
Everyday “a man has fallen into the river” and you need to build a helicopter like jeez do it yourself fireman but no there telling me “HEY”
@@Daddy-Hundavar i mean them building a helicopter everyday would certainly explain the amount of helicopters we get in City Sets
They started to add more unique hair molds to city figures but there seems to be a city tax! The city sets are grossly over priced compared to other themes.
Just like real life!
I'm a HUGE fan of your channel. I love how you give the perfect amount of jokes, yet you still get your point across. Keep up the good work, and hopefully we'll get to see you with 100k!
Edit: BTW Town isn’t bad in my opinion, but I do admit, Space and Castle are miles better
If i ever hit 100k i'll do a "Origin of Lego Town" video and buy all the sets fully boxed 🤣
@@RobrickLegoI can see a pattern where your milestones will be the only time you do a video on Town (🤣), that being your choice of course.
There’s something I love about (early) Town’s simplicity. It feels like a small community of people and places that grows more over time and eventually way too big but there’s still a vibe to the early days. Some of my personal favorites past those are the Paradisa and Racing sets. Paradisa because it just feels kinda relaxing in a weird way? Like the use of pastels and light greys along with those box arts bring a weird vaporwave aura to them that I love.
And racing because it went on to inspire Lego Racers which is still a top tier racing game and I will not be told otherwise.
I still have the menu and building themes stuck in my head almost on a daily basis, after almost two decades since I've played this for the last time haha
And I won't tell you otherwise, Lego Racers is so GOD that it beats Lego 2K Drive in everything and I am, WE ARE absolutely right.
Paradisa is sooo damn good
Honestly I just feel like each theme has it's gems
City has some bussin sets like pretty much every train set but thats not good for my trash talking video 😅
@@RobrickLego I've recently discovered the City "line up" of the pizza truck, ice cream truck, and soda truck and I find them absolutly awesome for some reason (I bought 5 of the pizza trucks lol)
Damn when you write, you're going to upload tonight, you really mean it 👌
Congrats on 10k! This channel is totally bussin’! ❤️
That's until he mentions Rock Raiders aren't bussin'
Well now im going to have to do a Rock Raiders video just for you 😁
I can definitely understand the town/city 'hate.' I personally prefer the old lego city stuff and definitely love and can't get over the old sub-themes they had like paradisa. Also I love that brickcrafts shoutout, that man's a beast and has infinitely deep pockets it seems to afford all that lego!
One thing to note: Its not called "old city" its TOWN. Town is superior, world city is trash, and city is mid
Well I agree the sets are bad or ok most of the time the best city related official sets are the modelers but having a custom city is really cool
Might just be nostalgia because I had a bunch of late 90s and early 2000s sets of town and city when I was a kid but I think there's a sort of beauty to the tiny vehicles that came with the sets.
Robrick when the town and city sets are based on reality and not dragons and wizards: \(◎o◎)/
I agree with City but Town had some bussin’ side themes like Paradisa and Outback. And without Town there’d be no LEGO Island!
Let me take you back to Christmas Day 1978…
My first Lego set…
377: Shell Service Station
My love of Lego Town was set for life!
So… should we just agree to disagree?
Let’s go another upload
Also congratulations on 10k subscribers
Friends is doing what lego city SHOULD be doing but friends is by far doing it 10x better. Only difference is Citys more heavy focus on careers / city based services, but not so much buildings, structures, stores, etc. for a city or general stuff for citizens to partake in.
This man deserve more than just 10k subs fo real, ro real, no cap
10k is already a dream come true 😁
Lol; the only new sets I’ll buy from City are those new space Mars and lunar sets. ( I laughed as soon as you showed it in the video). My wife too, can’t believe my “focus on the brick 🧱 “
3:03 btw brickcrafts also known as bob brickman (his main channel) is a German youtuber who builds these German based towns and other dioramas like a classic space one and a western world for a Lego museum, that will eventually open in the future. The museum is also going to be a Lego shop, which is going to sell eol sets. He also builds there with brickstory an even bigger German Lego youtuber. The museum will have some rooms extra for Lego themelines like star wars lord of the rings etc. In these rooms there will be some huge scale and awesome dioramas. Also in the star wars room is a wall with every Lego Star wars Minifigure ever made even those super expensive ones from cloud city or rare promos. So if you know some German or just want to see some cool builds, you can check either of them out.
As a 90a kid I looked at Space, Pirates, Castle and Town and instantly wanted the pirate ships and castles.... Lego could then become both a construction toy and a destruction toy (because of all the war).... Space would have been third on my list but we had very little money and I couldn't get everything.... Then again my sister liked town because she could build houses and play architect or detective... I guess it's what you like as a kid, I wanted to build the set on the box and thrown soldiers at it, she wanted to use the bricks to improve the set in the box... I always saw town as a stepping stone, design a house first and that gives you the skills to design something more esoteric later... It leans into the construction brick aspect of Lego.
My favorite British minifigure is back with another banger
When I was a kid I didn't like playing with pirates (Would you like when a pirate comes into your room and kidnap you from your parents?)
or with knights (Have you ever been to the ZOO? You know how stinky these horses are and how stupid medieval times were).
The space theme was fine and I really enjoyed it but I didn't have enough kits and wasn't interested in space itself.
My favorite Lego sets are Star Wars and Airport/Construction-related City stuff.
City/Town peaked in 2006-2012 and fell off after 2017
the lego town was actually build by a german lego youtuber named bob brickman
I recently found your channel and sir, it is strait bussin Ong no 🧢 fr fr. You are a hilarious bloke with an inordinate amount of expensive LEGO. Ur channel is underrated, you deserve 1 mil subs at least.
🙅♂️🎓Thanks for the lovely comment 💖
The only reason I get city sets is to fill up my modular city , I only get trains and cars / vans tho
I think the Town Sets were charming. City in my eyes has gone away from the simplicity and charm for more Detail but fall in the trap of being neither detailed enough, nor charming anymore. They feel a bit soulless which is unfortunate 😢😢
My mom had a bunch of the old castle sets and we recently rebuilt some. My favorite one is the Forestman Camouflaged Outpost. 6066.
6066 Is gorgeous!
i'm on the fence about this. some are good, most are bad
I prefer the older town sets like 6593 and 6346, they just have a great look to them and are good for displaying
Ok you got me 6346 would be pretty sick as a display piece 😅
my main issue with lego city is that the prices are a crime .
For a none license theme the prices are insane at time
HOW AM I NOT SUBSCRIBED?!?
Ive been watching your videos for half a year now... And never noticed lol
City was my go-to growing up in the early to mid 2000s. Getting that giant Lego city plane was one of the greatest days of my life up to that point.
the best city/town style sets are from lego friends, but they dont really count because minidolls are pretty bad.
the modular buildings COULD be counted as city/town, but they're really only effective i've you've got multiple sets and no normal person can afford more than 1 of these
I agree!, also love your sigfig!.
You speak words of wisdom sir
This is a very true statement
Congratulations on 10(k) subscribers!!
0:55 I grew up with the first 2 jestro lairs,Nexo Knights is lowkey one of Legos best original themes
Its legit an amazing theme but it did have some flaws 😁
Lego Castle 🔛🔝
I agree. I never cared for such a mundane and modern setting. Why recreate what I already live through every day? I want action and adventure!
Exactly! All it takes is one major crime and i can see the inside of a police station first hand 🙂
i have never seen a city set and thought, wow that looks really cool and i'll buy that instead of the all the other cool lego stuff that's also way cheaper.
Yeah i think thats why i actually don't like them, they just don't excite my imagination like so many other themes 🤔
It's so lame that lego city has pretty much just been lego cops for as long as I can remember
Must have a lot of crime in lego city 👀
I'm really glad you answered my question from the community post. I got to say I do like city because I'm a vehicle fan which is also what I love about space, jurassic world and the Star wars themes 😂
Nice to see you back, FELLA 🫡😏
I love that you cherry pick information to support your opinion. If you straight up tell people this, then nobody can say you're wrong
While 90s lego town and city are hit or miss, the early late 70s town sets hold a special place in my heart
Don't you dare talk shit about my pog System Town sets, but yea City sucks
Sure town may look simple and boring but it's still an amazing theme
🔫🙂 What was that?
You're past your bedtime
I was up till midnight on this one, it was a rough day at work today 😅
The self-deprecating jokes are always amazing. Reminds me of the ones I make of myself all day.
Also, I can’t wait for the 10k special. I’d I could subscribe twice I would.
I actually always agreed with this opinion. City is also imo the most grossly over-compensated theme, because there's always stuff like the modular buildings and other "themes" that seem to exist just to serve lego city. I don't *hate* City, but I definitely agree with them being kinda trash
Only city sets i've bought in last few years are Ninjago city sets. Those are just perfection
They do be bussin fr fr 😁
Idk where to say all the Q and A stuff, so just to be a....nob, imma ask it here. Who's you're favorite transformers character, and what's your favorite TF figure that you own
town and city has had some good like divers from 1997 and arctic from the early 2000s and 2013. Res Q and extreme team were also good, but the rest is pretty generic unlike the creative stuff space is pumping out and the world castle is creating.
City excells in 2 classes that is the bottom tier being a simple car with a minifig. And the wow factor like the monorail, train sets or those big harbor sets and jup I own 2 of those. The problem with city/town is that the mid tier is ususally crap. Now the new sets of 2021/22/23 have some great entries in the mid tier. But I hate to admit that every other set is a helicopter, police mobile base or a firetruck. And that it gets recycled. And before you know it you got a few hundred bucks worth of red trucks. That is the bad part of city. It repeats the same crap without being innovative.
i def get the point that City and whatever previous version of it are less exciting than a fantasy theme that strikes you personally, and i think thats fine. City is a lot more down to earth and casual with a mix of everyday stuff and "cool looking career options" style subthemes, and i think that is it's strength. Instead of being very hit or miss with what fantasy theme and presentation you vibe with, it's something more normal that kids usually still enjoy. Can be educational or inspirational as well with some of the subthemes that focus on certain uncommon lines of work.
The overabundance of police is big downside tho, so much police stuff for no reason lol. Cops and robbers are a pretty common "fun" concept to play with but they certainly overdid it, glad that they're bringing back more casual architecture or hobby/past-time related city stuff instead of more cops
I get they have to appeal to that particular market of kids every couple years but the endless parade of fire and police station variants feels like a lack of creative inspiration and a waste of a designer’s talent to create different kinds of innovative city sets. I also find there are lots of redeeming qualities or aspects to some of the newer city sets but paying exorbitant amounts of money for what equates to an unfinished (purposefully, and understandably dollhouse-styled) build isn’t feasible for most AFOLs. Thank god for pick a brick!
i will only believe town is a bad theme AFTER you purchase set 7740.
i love every original lego theme, and i'm TIRED of pretending i don't.
(except vidyo, that is mid)
Town at least had residential buildings, you can count on one hand the number of Citizen Houses of CITY...
They are so rare that they migrated to Creator!
I agree with everything you said. Back when I was a lil kid, and it was my birthday, I would have thrown a hissy fit if I got fucking wack ass Town/City lego as a gift. Gimme that sweet castle and star wars lego, my guy.
Lego world city in the very early 2000s had the best "cops vs criminals" sets IMO. They were quite a bit more grounded in reality compared to modern cartoony cops vs criminals lego city sets
I had one of the sets that was a sort of combination of a SWAT van, and Brinks truck, being robbed by some dude on a 3 wheel motorcyle lol. Set 7033 "armored car action"
I'm more of an avid star wars lego enjoyer myself, but I do have quite a few of the town or city sets, I am a big fan of the rescue ship and the fireship, these have specific boat parts which are huge pieces and do actually float unlike some other single-legged captained counterparts.
Love the humor Robrick.
L Take
🔫😊 Are you sure?
@@RobrickLego 😳
City has been mid overall since it was hit/miss with the actual quality of the designs, but after *_THAT_* its straight up trash , now its just hollow shells for a too narrow road
Based opinion honestly. Town, City, even World City have hit or miss sets. Tho I will say that trains be bussin
You failed to explain your point, at all.
Some sets have big mini figures, some sets are big.
That’s it?
How can you justify publishing this crap.
Sorry, allow me to explain in detail. Town = 🗑
I think Lego friends is doing a better job of making a variety of buildings, city spams fire and police but rarely makes civilian shops and houses like friends
Default generic classic Lego spacemen are cool as hell they don’t count
Ah. Nexo Knights: If Castle and Space had a baby.
Congrats on 10k
Thanks! 💖
Only one theme has the official gamer truck so unfortunately City is kino
A MAN HAS FALLEN TO THE HANDS OF BLACK ZARAK, QUICK ASSEMBLE SIDESWIPE AND JAZZ TO TAKE ON THE EVIL DECEPTION AND SAVE THE DAY!
The only city sets I’ve liked were the ones with the mammoth and saber toothed tiger
I mean you're right because Lego city is hit or miss so you're opinion is valid
There is light bluish gray pieces on your royal drawbridge
The only city sets anyone truly cares about are the trains and modules (and they barely count as city sets)
Yeah, it’s absolute dog fr fr no cap
I mean I think the new wave of city is pretty bussing
Old town is good, City started to nosedive around 2018.
I buy castles sets I buy star wars and once or twice I’ve bought architect in the three and one set but never have I bought a city set
Is the man purposely falling in the river so he can see the new vehicles?
City and Town are mostly trash. I do like the sets that come with multiple animals, as I can use them in my Castle mocs. The minifigs also, occasionally, are good for post apocalypse and "Insert Theme" punk builds, but they're mostly trash.
City fans are seething with their 20 different police and fire stations
Star Wars and Harry Potter and much worse than City these days
rad vid plz do office tour
Your jokes are fantastic man, you got me giggling good
Bespin Cloud City is a City set, trash that stuff, figs and all!
The LEGO city sub themes such as arctic, volcano exploration, underwater etc have some fantastic sets! I'm just not too keen on their regular fire, police, construction stuff.
I wish we got original themes instead of arctic, volcano exploration, underwater etc being shackled to town.
Yeah as much as i joke about City they have some lovely sub themes its just on average they can be kind of bland with all the standard house/building you see in your everyday life 😅
@@RobrickLego I think there's some charm in town (aka, not city or world-city); nothing I need a ton of, but that house you showed has a bit of simplistic charm and some nice peaceful vibes of classic-space to it. 4546 is also cool.
When I was a young boy, maybe 5-6? My dad’s job involved a lot of driving around the country. He was a software salesman and clocked up many miles in his car visiting clients. Upon returning home one evening with my mum I discovered LEGO set 6571 ‘Flame Fighters’ Fire Station propped up against the table below the television in the living room. My heart exploded. It wasn’t my birthday, no distant family member had fallen off their perch, but there it was! It turns out dad had been collecting these points you gained when buying petrol at the old Texaco garages. He’d cashed the points in and gave me this LEGO set.
He then spent the next day regretting his choice has it turns out the little retractable doors for the vehicles to race out from under were a bitch to do properly, as I was to find out a few years ago when buying the set again for the memories. We’re of a similar age Rob and I agree with your finely reasoned LEGO view, but LEGO City will also be special as that genre that caters to all.
Also my dad is a legend, and my threats to have children just to force him to make LEGO sets for them during Christmas continues to amuse the family.
Your dad sounds like an absolute amazing fella 😊
ik you probably dont watch the show but giving Oni Garmadon a crystal sword gave me intense short-lasting physical pain
👀
RUclips was a prick and went "ya know what? Imma stop recommending my guy here to ya" so i just thought the wife ordered a hitman, but i'm glad that wasn't the case
It happens sometimes for some reason 😥
My very first set ever was the firestation from mid 80s with blue door and blue windows.
And i love the 80s 12v trains. Trains are cool😊
I do have a soft spot for Trains, its a shame they're all so damn expensive 😭
I’m really enjoying your content, recently discovered you and have been binge watching your videos, very entertaining and gets me in a relaxed and positive mood, so huge thank you!
also for the suggestions: og wild west theme video would be great and also more pirates videos!
Ayy im glad your enjoying them 💖
still not enough transformers
I was too lazy to write a response so I asked Chat GPT to write an angry reply to the video.
"Listen up, you misguided souls! I can't believe the audacity of claiming that Lego Town and Lego City are the pinnacle of Lego themes! Are you blind to the vast array of incredible themes that Lego has produced over the years? Let me enlighten you.
First off, let's talk about Lego Star Wars. How can you ignore the sheer magnitude of creativity and excitement that comes with building iconic spaceships like the Millennium Falcon or the Death Star? The saga of Star Wars combined with the limitless possibilities of Lego bricks is a match made in plastic heaven.
And what about Lego Harry Potter? Are you seriously going to tell me that strolling around a boring little town is more thrilling than reenacting epic battles at Hogwarts? Building the magical castle or the Quidditch pitch allows us to immerse ourselves in a world of wizardry and adventure.
Oh, and let's not forget about Lego Technic! This theme takes Lego to a whole new level, introducing complex mechanics and engineering concepts. Building intricate vehicles like supercars and construction machines challenges our minds and expands our understanding of the physical world.
And let's not overlook the remarkable Lego Ideas sets. These are fan-designed creations brought to life, showcasing the ingenuity and creativity of Lego enthusiasts worldwide. From the awe-inspiring Saturn V rocket to the nostalgic Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters, these sets demonstrate the power of imagination.
Lego Town and Lego City may have their place, but to declare them as the be-all and end-all of Lego themes is simply absurd. Lego's diversity and innovation have given us countless unforgettable experiences, sparking joy and igniting our imaginations. So, I implore you to step outside your narrow vision and explore the vast universe of Lego themes. You might just discover something truly extraordinary."
Damn that was longer than I thought...
💀
As a HUGE transformers collector.I get really excited anytime you include them in your videos. I hope we get a video on them soon.
I love when people pick up on my transformers! I am working on a video about them but im a little worried as my collection is rather small 😅
Your still a brother regardless.
I just subscribed after forgiving his opinion about Lego town than he drops video
You're videos have become my favourite part of every sunday
Your a real one 💖
I love Lego town, but I have to agree that Castle and space are way better.
A man of culture 😁
Gary lost this debate.
