Monterey, Santa Cruz, and Salinas need to be linked together by light rail. That means upgrading the tracks in Santa Cruz County to class two, upgrading the tracks through Marina and Castroville to class two, building new track from Salinas to Castroville and Pajaro Junction, and putting tracks back in from Seaside to Monterey. Traffic on Highway One sucks, so this is a need now, not ten years from now!

I believe they are doing that but shorter from marina to Monterey or Carmel called (SURF) if I'm not mistaken

@@NorCaliRailroading2023 yes I know im just hoping that one day the coast sub will be as filled with trains at the Central Valley is because at the moment the sub only has The Rock Job Salinas Local And IOALBR and both Starligths so yea

@@caltrain908railfan they run a ton of locals, especially from watsonville yard
And the IOALBR is becoming more frequent now

@@caltrain908railfan sadly the coast sub will probably never have as much traffic as the central valley, I would be fine with even 5 mainline freights a day honestly

Last year in May-September there was a hand car kind of thing where you would start at the city of marina and then go to the ballon loop at the old military base there. I participated in this can it was very fun, I’m not sure when they’ll do it again. You can look it up, just search up hand car tours.

Asilomar was the end of the branch. It never went to Carmel.
