    I must say that Rail Speeder is a beautiful piece of form and function and the turntable is so awesome. Cheers to the railroad for their cooperation. The video was fine just needed more of it :-) Thank You

    During the 60's I worked for HBC Northern Stores along the main line through NW Ontario I road in one many many times, they would give me a lift between Armstrong and Auden . We called them Jiggers, the CN signal maintainers rode them. When we had a train coming there were spots we would pull handles from under neath to lift and turn the Jigger to pull it off the rails.

    • @rdg2124
      @rdg2124  2 года назад

      Neat story. This particular car was built in 1984 according to the data plate inside the cab. I heard they were called Jiggers, also pop cars, rail cars and other names. Check out another of my videos for a quick clip of it being turned, along with one being turned the way you described.

    I want to build a speeder but don’t know where to run it or proper person to contact ? Any suggestions ? I have all of the parts needed including the cab , engine , wheels w/ brakes frame material welder and seats . My dream would be to travel as far as Arizona , Washington , Texas and New York . I’d make it big enough for 2 people to sleep in it and eat along the adventured route !

    • @rdg2124
      @rdg2124  Год назад

      If you mean the rail speeder itself, most of the time we do not. Reliability issues. There are times when we will manually activate the gates/signals with special equipment but that is rare too.

    very nice video. I'm in Newfoundland, Canada. We have same car CN # 146 63 but for narrow gauge former CN Railway here. We plan to get our Beaver Car up and running again but it is missing its engine. wonder is there a way you can send us some pictures underneath of the car or any drawings. thanks. Steve

      @@rdg2124 could you give an average price for someone that would like to get into this hobby from the motorcar to the trailer to haul it to any and all safety equipment ?

    • @rdg2124
      @rdg2124  2 года назад +2

      @@Retired88M It all depends on the condition, size and mechanical worthiness of a particular car. The hobby is not for the fiscally challenged but not one that requires piles and piles of money. Figure on spending around $7-$8K for the unit (either getting one cheaper and then making the needed repairs), add around $2.5K for a trailer, then you need a tow vehicle, you'll want extras like a two-way radio, perhaps in intercom system, PPE, stuff like that. Round number maybe approaching $15K but I know people who have gotten in for much, much less and others who dumped way more than that into just one car. As with everything, prices vary according to the desirability of the unit and what's available nearby. Check out narcoa dot org for more information.
