The mystery of Aldous Harding was unlocked for me when I realized she's not singing a song, she's IN the music. I think she sees the lyrics and feels the emotion of the movie in her mind. It's extraordinarily honest, with a kind of courage that comes from true vulnerability.

Music is theatre. A lot of people jus stopped trying after Bowie. I say bring back the theatrics. Some people say nowadays it’s distracting to the music. I’ve heard people say that with bands like drab majesty. But I think it adds to the performance. Aldous makes it look natural
Aldous is a true original and one of the most creative artists around. She changes the game, from being a singer songwriter to delivering characters and stories in a unique way that is incredibly thought provoking, has hidden depths and well worth exploring.
Its been a long time since an artist has grabbed me like this, she is such a singular and special talent. Watching this is entrancing, she inhabits her songs and has an aura about her that is completely unique.

We're all beautiful... its our cultures that sometimes tell us we're not.

I'm very pleased to have been able to introduce you to Aldous Harding. She's an amazing artist. She has released three albums, each slightly different in style as she continues to evolve. I hope you can give them a listen. Yes, it was a wonderful night. Thanks for commenting Karin.

@@karinhoffman1399 Thanks for your kind words Karin. I was lucky with both 10cc concerts to be in the front row. That always helps when videoing. As for the 'liner notes', I just feel the need to add a little something to make the video just a little personal. So many people just drop a video without saying anything. A little context is nice. Anyway, I hope you can continue finding music amongst my outings that interest you.
Absolutely mesmerizing. I love Aldous. Thanks for posting this. I was lucky enough to catch her show in LA a few months ago. Can't wait to see her again.

Glad you enjoyed the video. Isn't she great live. I'm seeing her again in October. I'm very much looking forward to it. But no video this time. I'll be enjoying the moment.
She encourages me to overcome my stagefright. I haven't a clue how to, but I feel determined. Just to be alone in a room performing to a recording device fills me with anxiety. Baby steps, I guess. Man...to play with a band... A girl can dream. 😑
Back in my performing days, I had to enter a sort of trance state, the result is similar to what you see with Aldous and a lot of artists of that ilk. It's not always entirely positive. It's similar to drug use in that it can take you somewhere interesting or dangerously out of control. If you're talking about music, the music will set the stage for the "ritual", so make sure that what you're doing will take you on a journey to a place you actually want to reach.
It’s taken me well over three years to realize, I really do like this very hard to understand Artist!! She’s just so…”different!” I can admit, I still don’t understand her! At all!! I’ve watched her perform so many times, thinking I’ll figure her out..,but I still haven’t!! 😂 She has to be one of the most unique music artists, and performance artists I can remember since Kate Bush!! To make a long story short… This is a most special person!! Way beyond most peoples comprehension or understanding!! Im embarrassed I almost did not give her a chance at first!! Still not sure how to explain her, tried to turn a few of my “normie” friends on to her and they totally didn’t get it. Or hear the beautiful music!! I’m ok with this being my secret pleasure!! 🥰🥰
I'll be honest and say I don't really understand all that she says in her lyrics or interviews either. But I've decided that I don't need to. I take from her music and performances what I can, and if that's different to her intensions or to what other people take, I'm fine with that. There's lots to enjoy about this very unique artist, and understanding isn't always all that it's cracked up to be. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. And I'm glad you've come to accept her beautiful music for what it is - beautiful. And now we have another great album to enjoy.
My experience is even less so I'll take your word for it. But I'd venture to suggest whatever approach works for the individual is the right approach. And it certainly seems to work for her. Good luck with your guitar playing.
This woman helped me through a long night. Thank you Aldous! Your're a sister to me and you don't even know who I am haha! I appreciate your art very very much. Your Art being your pure humanity that you let shine through. We are often put into positions where we can not be loud, where we have to do things that put life before our own desires and expression, where love is shown in forms of service rather than in potency. These are things that are necessary at times. That is why we have poets, musicians and artists to let out that pent up higher consciousness that comes with humanity. The parts we are so often forced to keep kept shut in to not distract ourselves from our daily tasks. They are also important, because they beg us to ask what it is we count as survival and just how much in the day is necessary for us to keep a routine in....what direction are we going in as a society. The real questions only poets and artists can create. You are beautiful. You are Art
Music can be a real life saver. I speak from personal experience. So glad Aldous came to your aid. The world is a much richer place for our poets, musicians and artists. We are in their debt.
@@Peter_LiveMusic I agree with everything you say, except I do not believe we are in their debt. It is a harmonious relationship. They get to live the way they live and be unique and inspiring. The rest of us give them love and admiration for their work because they help us stay in a "we" mindset. They are healers and grounders and they know that the rest of the world deserves peace. But they are created usually from worlds that did not have any peace, that is why they strive so hard to create it. We provide that love and peace for them in return for their art. That is our relationship to them. There is no debt. Any provider would not want you to think that way. Just appreciate the light they want to give and that is all you need to do!
While her new songs are amazing and she's such a talent, how she acts on stage and interviews are a world apart to what she was like back in the day. Watch interviews/performances from 2015 and she was bubbly, talkative and interested in being at the interview/performance, now, however, she's just disinterested. Thanks heaps for posting this. I wanted to go but couldn't :)
Interesting to hear about the change. I'll have a look back. I didn't get the impression that she was 'disinterested' at the concert. She was more like an Olympic high diver forcing total concentration before she plunged into the next song. She seemed to be psyching herself up. I'm sure lots of people read lots of different things into it. Anyway, the songs were beautifully performed. Try to catch her next time. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Thanks for commenting Nathan.
I feel like she's plunged more and more into the character that she has mentioned she inhabits. It's really art, methinks, all of it. And in interviews I think she really tries to choose words carefully. In concert I was about 4 feet away and felt her love and intensity of presence so strong it was as the caption on this video says, almost unbearably intimate. My boyfriend and I felt the reverberations for days. I think she's very giving. ❤
Glad you like it. Yes, I thought the 'in-between' bits important. For me they were a significant part of her performance. I wasn't sure how viewers of the video would react but most people seem to appreciate them. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for commenting. She and the band are terrific live. My only complaint is it wasn't long enough but I'd probably be still saying that no matter how long she was on stage.
Very glad you enjoyed it. The entire production was beautifully done. I only wish I'd been able to capture more of her band. But while I could see them OK, I didn't want to hold my camera up to my face level for fear of disturbing those around me. Thanks for commenting.
20:25 Nick Drake was known for long, silent tuning breaks between songs, with no audience interaction, so she's in good company there. By-the-way, a solution is to hire a trusted roadie to hand you tuned guitars. However I think she likes leaning into the energy that this slower pacing provides.
I think the pauses nicely slow down the performance, like cleaning the palette between courses of a rich dinner, so personally I have no problem with them. I'll have to check out Nick Drake's live performances to see how they compare. Thanks for the info.
@@Peter_LiveMusic There is a live BBC radio performance album from Nick Drake called The John Peel Session. That's the only live recording of him performing I'm familiar with, ...but it's pretty great, so that's good. Group with a similar feeling to Aldous and Nick is Kings of Convenience, especially songs like 'Scars on Land'.
Thanks for the video! It’s great! I hope to see her in Ukraine someday. Maybe it’s strange but when I was listening her songs while missiles were exploding behind the window I felt like some good friend was holding my hand and calming me.
Hopefully she will be able to play Ukraine in the not too distant future. Hopefully, Putin will be held accountable. My thoughts are with you and your nation's struggle.
I’m so sorry. I can’t even imagine what you’ve been going through. Most Americans are with you, not Putin, despite what idiocy is going on here now. I’m glad you can find some solace in music. I only discovered Aldous a few days ago and am hooked. Hope you’re well.
@@StLProgressive I’m ok as far, thank you for your concern, Amy🙏🏻 thanks to Aldous I found good friends here btw. She’s an awesome singer! I’ve published the article about her on Ukrainian Wikipedia (the article is bigger than English one) so you can find a load of useful links there
They were indeed. My biggest regret with this video is that I was unable to capture any footage of her band because I was holding my camera down low. But they were all truly fine musicians.
I had the chance to go to one of her shows but I ended up not going since at the time I had just discovered her and wasn't a fan yet. Now I love her albums and I'm totally regretting not going. Thanks for posting!
Hopefully, you'll get another chance to see her. As I wrote, I didn't know her well when I bought my ticket. But I'll definitely be seeing her when she's next in town. Her live performances are rather special.
Nice one Peter: Brilliant, never heard of her/these before, why do you guys over there get all the best gigs? She is mesmerising - can't be sure what is going to happen next. Thanks.
Thanks TTL. She's a Kiwi so it's only natural that she plays Australia regularly. But she's got a world wide following now. As for us getting all the 'best gigs', I only wish. You're light years ahead over there. I only wish with this video I was able to get more of the band in. I could see them fine but I always shoot from my chest when seated so as not to disturb those around me. That couple of feet difference significantly lessened what my camera saw. Thankfully, Aldous is so expressive that it's enough just to watch her.
..once upon a time 2 kiwis (Aldous & Connan) went swimming with dolphins... only the dolphins returned..and they wore incredible hats and bemused facial expressions...
When I saw her live I was up close, too, and was struck by how much she'd resemble an animatronic when she'd get into song mode, especially under the stage lighting. Her exaggerated, offbeat facial expressions and posture elicit that 'uncanny valley' feeling. Mesmerizing and super eerie. One of the most memorable encounters of my life.
You've described her performance very well, although for people who haven't actually experienced her live, it might sound a little off-putting. When I see her again (and I'm hoping that will be sooner rather than later), I'll be trying my hardest to get as close to the front as I can. Thanks for your insightful comment.

I'm very pleased to have been able to introduce you to Aldous Harding. She's an amazing artist. She has released three albums, each slightly different in style as she continues to evolve. I hope you can give them a listen. Yes, it was a wonderful night. Thanks for commenting Karin.
"You're amazing!"...
Pause, pause...
"That's good, I never thought I'd be anything"
Yes, she's pretty amazing.
Peter, so glad I stumbled over you while searching for current 10 CC videos. (It 's just some silly thing I'm going through). The top 2, imo, are both yours. Your liner notes (?) are very well written also.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Karin
Peter S, thank you for this video! She's amazing. Never seen an artist like her. Unique and very special to me.
Very glad you like it Teodora. Yes, she is amazing and terrific in concert. Thanks for commenting.
It was only last night I found myself for the first time, in the captivating aura of AD and I'm hooked.
Welcome to the fan club.
She's my favorite. 😊
Thanks for this gift.
Glad you like it. Such a wonderful performance.
Absolutely mesmerizing. I love Aldous. Thanks for posting this. I was lucky enough to catch her show in LA a few months ago. Can't wait to see her again.
Thanks for commenting. Glad you enjoyed it. It was a wonderful performance. With the way things currently are in the world it might be a while, but I'm really looking forward to seeing her again too.
We love you !!!
she is simply incredible
That she is.
She's something else
The song "Designer" remind me a lot Syd Barrett's mind. She's great
She is indeed great. I hadn't thought that about Designer. I'll have to give it another listen (any excuse). Thanks for commenting.
I thought about Syd as well! Similar kind of weirdness...
Oh my goodness. Jan 1, 2022. I just discovered her and this. I am mesmerized. Thank you for posting this. I understand and “love” the pauses. Every answer is there. ❤️
I’m commenting again, as I cannot stop watching, I am transfixed, have I been hypnotized?
She really is special. It was a wonderful night. I can't wait until I can see her again.
12:30 Her coy stare here is delightful. She connects with the audience, on her terms.
15:24 More audience gazing. Let the staring contest begin!
@@robpash2204 I know . I've forwarded this a number of times to where she tells us that she's been told that she doesn't interact with her audience enough ... just to ..... wait for it ..... see that grin that kindof slays you.
Such a ... wow wow wow performer!
Thx Peter. Another look at her and music and live vibe. Appreciated 👌👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it
Such a beautiful mess.
EDIT: I wish she would come to South Africa. Can't get her voice off of my mind!
i love the long pauses... going to see her on saturday!!!
I'm sure you'll have a great time.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I fell in love with her music at first listen. So glad I got to see her in Cambridge, MA recently.
I hope you manage to overcome your stage fright. Keep on dreaming. We all live for our dreams.
@@Peter_LiveMusic Thank you, Peter. And thank you for posting this video.
Thank you for capturing and sharing this. Aldous’ genius is beyond words.
She's one of a kind. Glad you liked the video.
It’s taken me well over three years to realize, I really do like this very hard to understand Artist!! She’s just so…”different!”
I can admit, I still don’t understand her! At all!!
I’ve watched her perform so many times, thinking I’ll figure her out..,but I still haven’t!! 😂
She has to be one of the most unique music artists, and performance artists I can remember since Kate Bush!!
To make a long story short…
This is a most special person!!
This was my first ever wxposure to this ARTIST. Thanks for posting it unedited. Real good!
Thanks for commenting. I'm happy that my video is bringing Aldous to the attention of new fans. She really is quite a performer, not to be missed.
her guitar-playing is really fascinating to watch. I'm just learning myself, but in my limited experience, she seems to take an unusual approach.
My experience is even less so I'll take your word for it. But I'd venture to suggest whatever approach works for the individual is the right approach. And it certainly seems to work for her. Good luck with your guitar playing.
Beautiful video
Thanks. It was a beautiful performance.
@@Peter_LiveMusic Did she play Zoo Eyes?
@@nateswitch Yes, she did. You can find the setlist here:
www.setlist.fm/setlist/aldous-harding/2020/enmore-theatre-sydney-australia-3b998c38.html
Thank you for this recording💛💛🤗
You're welcome. I'm glad you like it. If you get the chance, do see her in concert.
Omigosh! Thankyou for this...what a great night it was!!! LOVE IT!!
It was indeed a wonderful night. I hope we get the chance to see her performing life again soon.
Thanks for this Peter. I get shivers when I watch Aldous
You're welcome. I had shivers throughout the performance. I can't wait to see her again.
Aldous Harding ist eine Inspiration. Danke! 💖💖💖
thanks for uploading Peter, and specially big thanks for keeping the inbetween songs, so beutiful
Glad you like it. Yes, I thought the 'in-between' bits important. For me they were a significant part of her performance. I wasn't sure how viewers of the video would react but most people seem to appreciate them. Thanks for commenting.
Saw her last year at the metro, an absolute dream. Thanks for capturing this !
Thanks for commenting. She and the band are terrific live. My only complaint is it wasn't long enough but I'd probably be still saying that no matter how long she was on stage.
Another fine performance, and nice subtle lighting aswell, thanks for this upload.
Very glad you enjoyed it. The entire production was beautifully done. I only wish I'd been able to capture more of her band. But while I could see them OK, I didn't want to hold my camera up to my face level for fear of disturbing those around me. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you for posting this
Glad you enjoyed it. It was a very special experience.
I'm reminded of a young Peter Gabriel, I didn't always get it, but it was always compelling and the music was always great... now as then.
You are right! It’s because his songs kept a trancelike beat and lots of repetition. it’s comforting.
Brilliant song writer musician
I sense that she has articulated this entire set... all intentional.
@@Peter_LiveMusic i'm not sure i've ever seen ND play live.. is there footage?
@@dufresnepartyoftwo9880 Sorry, I haven't been able to find any. Maybe one day, some footage will come to light.
What a gift, thank you 🙏✨
Glad you like it. It was such a beautiful performance from all on stage.
Love this. In a strange way, she reminds me of Dylan. A similar kind of assuredness and deepness. She is really special.
@@Peter_LiveMusic thank you for your kind words, Peter! Wishing you peace🙏🏻
I’ve published the article about her on Ukrainian Wikipedia (the article is bigger than English one) so you can find a load of useful links there
Her style is so odd. I love it!
❤️
If this lady isn't on the spectrum I'll eat my hat.
She reminds me a bit of another musical genius David Byrne who now talks about his ASD openly.
Big fan. Really enjoyed the intimacy. 😍
It was a great concert. I'm a big fan now too.
12:30 love how that smile shows how much she is enjoying it ✨
every instrument is so carefully executed.
They were indeed. My biggest regret with this video is that I was unable to capture any footage of her band because I was holding my camera down low. But they were all truly fine musicians.
Genius
Great video !!!
Thanks. It was a great performance.
Even when she said 'there's that weather' into the mic after the song it felt somehow special.
I had the same emotional interplanetary experience when I first watched David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust
Saw her do back to back show's at the Empty Bottle in Chicago. One of the last live show's I attended before shit hit the fan.
Hoping the shows left you with some good memories to see you through these lean times.
brilliant
she is so unusual and I love her!
The doors of perception are bay doors in this instance.
Suena hermoso con audífonos
20:55. Best thing ever!
Yes, great. And I love the little smile she gives afterwards.
I agree....the best!
I witnessed Aldous in Auckland last year at the power station, was a religious experience.
Vabbé, lei è la migliore
Lo è certamente
You’re the perfect band
I had the chance to go to one of her shows but I ended up not going since at the time I had just discovered her and wasn't a fan yet. Now I love her albums and I'm totally regretting not going. Thanks for posting!
Hopefully, you'll get another chance to see her. As I wrote, I didn't know her well when I bought my ticket. But I'll definitely be seeing her when she's next in town. Her live performances are rather special.
I love her weird.
Fantastic. Thanks for or sharing. She she do swell does the skull?
