The Exploding Universe of Ed Kuepper - Milton - April 26 2024
Ed Kuepper took his Exploding Universe back on the road again to celebrate the re-release of two more albums: his solo ARIA award winning “Black Ticket Day” and the Laughing Clowns’ classic “Law of Nature”. There were as well plenty of songs from other albums, 14 in total. I limited myself to five:
It’s Lunacy (00:27)
Descending Into Blue (04:41)
Eternally Yours (08:43)
Also Sprach the King of Euro-Disco (13:05)
The Way I Made You Feel (19:58)
After the City Recital Hall on the previous tour, GA at The Factory didn’t really appeal to me and I almost decided not to go at all. However, Ed’s social media post about the Milton Theatre selling fast prompted me to look at it as an alternative option....

Johnny Hunter - Sydney - April 20 2024
Просмотров 18621 день назад
It was billed as their last Australian show. Limited to 100 tickets. It was a gig not to miss. Not surprisingly, it quickly sold out, and two more shows were added on the preceding nights. Johnny Hunter announced they were finally relocating to the UK and these shows were to be their send off. It was also an opportunity to play some new songs, in particular ‘Frustration’, ahead of the release o...
Roger Corbett - “April 25” - Sydney
Просмотров 19828 дней назад
I recorded this song in October 2023 when Roger Corbett (supported by Rory Phillips) played the Southern Sydney Folk Club in Mortdale. However, I didn’t add it to the other songs I uploaded from that night as it didn’t seem the proper fit. Instead, I decided to hold onto it and upload it on ANZAC Day as a way of saying thank you to those amazing young men and women on April 25. All photographs ...
Neil Murray - Wollongong - April 18 2024
Просмотров 148Месяц назад
In March 2023 Neil Murray released his tenth solo album, “The Telling”, and as always with Neil, extensive touring followed. He visited Sydney with band a month later. I decided to forgo the drive. In the twelve months following, he’s done solo shows right across the country, finally returning to coastal NSW. And while I’d prefer to see him again with a band, this gig was too close to home to s...
The Damned - March 21 2024 - Sydney
Просмотров 16 тыс.2 месяца назад
Not only was it the first time in 35 years that the 1980's lineup of Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies and Paul Gray have toured together, it was also billed as The Damned’s last Australian tour - talk about bitter/sweet. As was fitting for the line up, the vast majority of songs played came from their earliest days, with more than half of them coming from two albums, Machine Gun Etiqu...
Andrew Farriss - Wollongong - March 15 2024
Просмотров 1282 месяца назад
While I watched the largely elderly audience arrive, I couldn’t help but think what it must be like to go from playing to tens of thousands in the world’s best known venues to about 40 people in small pub in Wollongong. Surely it must take some major readjustments, both mentally and emotionally. The tour was called ‘Songs & Stories’ and Andrew Farriss had plenty of both, beginning with his more...
Imogen Clark - Wollongong - March 15 2024
Просмотров 1482 месяца назад
I’ve been wanting to see Imogen Clark live since she released her “Bastards” EP in 2021. But I’d set my sights on her headlining and being with a band, and whenever those gigs did happen, I was always doing something else. Then she announced she was supporting Andrew Farris on his tour which included a show very close to me. Not exactly how I’d wanted to see her but I’d waited long enough. It t...
Morcheeba - Sydney - March 14 2024
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 месяца назад
The audience was hyped-up (maybe a little too much with all the excited voices in the air), Morcheeba was back in Sydney for another sell out show. And the band seemed to be pretty happy to be back too. Skye was as beautiful as ever and Ross’ guitar playing outstanding. They played 16 career spanning songs. I recorded seven, not necessarily their best known, but an interesting selection I think...
From The Jam - Sydney - March 10 2024

More nostalgia, this time from a couple of years before my previous upload. May 1977 and The Jam’s ‘In the City’ is the third (or maybe fourth … after The Damned, The Clash and maybe The Stranglers) punk album I buy. All bought totally unheard and unknown. It’s easy to forget now just how revolutionary those early punk albums were to the stale music scene at the end of the ‘70s, and while it wa...

Another fabulous night of 80s’ nostalgia. This time with The Human League performing their 1981 album ‘Dare!’ in full, plus a handful of their other best known songs, a total of 19 tracks. It was terrific getting the opportunity to hear some of those songs which are rarely played live. Here are my seven picks: The Lebanon (00:06) The Things That Dreams Are Made Of (04:24) Open Your Heart (08:34...
Tycho Brahe - “Free” - Sydney
Просмотров 4012 месяца назад
Brisbane synthpop band Tycho Brahe cite their influences, amongst others, as being New Order, Depeche Mode and The Human League, so who better to support the latter on their Australian tour. They certainly did a terrific job setting the mood and transporting the audience back to the 80s. “Free” is one of their earlier songs. Triple J Unearthed has more interesting info on the band: www.abc.net....
Pop Will Eat Itself - Sydney - March 1 2024

Pop Will Eat Itself reformed in 2010, initially with only Graham Crabb (vocals) from the original 1986 band. Since then Richard March (guitar) and Adam Mole (keyboard) have also rejoined, as well as long term member John ‘Fuzz’ Townshend on drums, thus recreating a near original line up. By the crowd’s reaction, everyone at this PWEI gig thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was a ‘best of’ tour an...

I have a couple of early Jesus Jones albums which I really like so I was very pleased to finally get the chance to see them live. Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders - February 24 2024 - Sydney

One of Australia’s most underrated musical talents, Tim Rogers, the creative force behind Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders, got the original band back together for two performances. Yes, a great pity. That was the sound in the front row and why I won't pay extra money for front row seats at the Enmore anymore. At times, I couldn't even understand what Shane was saying. If you note, about half way through "Solid Rock", the sound quality improves dramatically. That's because I pinched the sound from another video also recorded that night but from about halfway back in the theatre. So clearly where I was sitting was not what most people heard. I've learnt that vocals are frequently lost when recorded at the very front. Anyway, thanks for commenting.

I was also there 👍 I didn't get to see their early 90's tour but have seen them on all their following tours to Sydney and i reckon this was their best one yet. It was a tighter mix and I'd say the mixing also drove the drums and bass a little more giving that extra power in sound. Something that these video's dont bring out unfortunately. It was a great gig. Glad i got to see Caligula as well, i have their albums also. They too packed a punch and a great live band 👍

@@Peter_LiveMusic Yes absolutely. You are quite right. We don't get such tours over here although the scenario has been changing a bit here in the past decade or so. However, post-punk and synth pop acts go off the radar here and it's the more mainstream chart topping pop and rock acts that continue to make the bill here... I think it is possibly also because there are so many other local distractions and film music as well. Unless, there are real pop-rock culture and musos who dig deep into the alternative scene, you wouldn't be surprised if very few of them even heard of such classic acts like The Human League or The Cure.

This is great! Ed’s wife is my dear long time friend. I have been fortunate to see him probably at least 100 times since 1981 when I saw Clowns support Birthday Party ( that was a gig to remember). Been at almost every gig in Sydney from mid 80s to now. He is a genius and I know every album off by heart. Every gig has been different and wild. A testament to his craft , massive talent and sense of exploration. Some of his best were with Oxley and Wegener at the Vanguard. Unbelievable energy. Just went to Newcastle for one night last Wednesday from Sydney to see him play up there. They were phenomenal. He is also one of the funniest men around. Mark Dawson is an astonishing drummer. Wegener is however my favourite. And Alister is a genius player. Eamon adds the icing on the cake. The Clowns ( versions 1 and reformed) Saints, Yard Goes on Forever, solo, Aints!, Kuepper, Oxley and Wegener have given me so much joy and pleasure over 4 decades. Also saw him with Bad Seeds at All Tomorrow’s Parties and at Opera House. I am a very fortunate 65 year old woman. All Clowns albums have been on high rotation for me since the early 80s. ❤❤❤

Thanks for your wonderful, informative comment. These days social media can fool us into believing that we know our idols better than we do. Personalised emails via mailing lists, Facebook posts (and the occasional personal reply to a comment made) can give the impression that there is some kind of contact between us. Of course, there's not. So it's great to hear from a person who really knows Ed and from the beginning of his musical career too. So many great memories. You are indeed a very fortunate (not so) old woman. If you haven't already seen it, I too travelled from Sydney to see his most recent tour. You'll find some video from the performance here: ruclips.net/video/iBUg8RxpWgc/видео.html I really love the band he's currently playing with. I hope he's back on stage with them next year.
