[DVD] Radiohead - Tibetan Freedom Concert 1998 [Full Concert + Bonus]

- I was asked on Twitter today for this concert, which is available already on RUclips in full but like Metro 1993, there were a few things that bugged me about that upload; it was widescreen and had the overscan on the bottom, so I decided to upload it myself.
Video quality is not too bad, and the audio quality is a little crackly in places but definitely listenable. So it should be enjoyable enough :).
I've also added a bonus on the end, Thom's backing vocal performance for R.E.M.'s E-Bow The Letter.

I was there! The crowd went ballistic when Radiohead came out, and I was just a 19-year-old girl in a crazy writhing mass of humanity. I crowd-surfed out during Talk Show Host just so I wouldn't get crushed. Incredible memory. I was in love with Radiohead since The Bends, but that day at the Tibetan Freedom Concert sealed it forever.
The_Undiscovered_Country you are a living legend. You lived my dream. I hope you know how frikkin amazing that is!!!
The_Undiscovered_Country 😍
The_Undiscovered_Country I was there, too! This was the week before I graduated from high school...caught the train from Philly to DC for the weekend with two friends & made it back just in time for our very last final exam. Ahhh, the memories. One of the best weekends of my life (save the lightning strikes). Look at everyone interacting and being present in the moment without their cell phones!!! Just bought my 13-yr-old nephew Radiohead tix for this summer...::sobs:: I feel old!!!
Same here, but just finished junior year. Was a bit confused bc at the HFestival beer bracelets were given out and all you had to do was buy one off an old hippy. It was only after getting into the stadium did we realize no booze was sold. Had an enjoyable time nevertheless...was a massive RH fan.
I forgot about the no booze thing! I was there too - a whole bunch of 22 year olds so we pre-gamed right outside the gates while listening to Dave Matthews Band before entering the stadium. Man, was that awful when the lightening struck! So many great bands I saw for the first time that weekend!! 20 years ago already - can we go back please?!?!
I was 12 and in the front row - it was my first concert. I still have the tie-dye tshirt stashed away. what an incredible memory to see this video and relive that day during these very ODD times.
youre lucky as hell man
that should have happened to me.
I was there, reluctantly because I'm not into big crowds, and so glad I have this day in my memory. Pre-'KID A' era when Radiohead were just GODS before they were SuperGODS!!!
Max Welter you lived my dream
Colin's moves are impeccable - he is the self-imposed understated king of 'shapes'
This captures a special moment with Radiohead. Between fame and rejection of fame, trying to figure out how to make things work.
BUt what do you expect? Memebers cring? some Speech? Come on, it´s music, and perfectly performed.
I remember MTV doing a quick segment on this in the thick of their rotation of Paranoid Android and I was astounded by what I was seeing. Here we are nearly twenty years later and these guys are about all I listen to.
Come on. Lots and lots to listen to. If you want to know where they got their Kid A and beyond sound, go to Spotify and listen to some 70's kruatrock!
same here! after 20 years still my fav band,i adore them!
Yes, i do remember that. A very quick part of "news".

33:06 Thom looks disappointed

What a surprise xD
He looked disappointed since the first song’s first chords
@@andresespinoza2900 Yes that timestamp is when those chords are played, no?
The song Airbag saved my life
Remichael
Potresti essere più preciso? @comunistadelaluz?
How come I've never seen this amazing concert yet? I've binge watched just about every Radiohead concert on youtube. What a pleasant surprise.
They had so much more energy in the 90s
Everyone grows old..
"It wears me out..."
I think you mean 'a nasty surprise?'
good
I was there. Michael Stipe singing Lucky is probably one of my greatest memories of this entire concert, and I was one section over from the girl who got struck by lightning on day one.
Lightning?
Omg did she die?
10:00 I GOT IT, Jonny uses the pitch wheel to control the crazy sounds of his synth there combined with a mellotron-like sample and a phaser. I've been trying to figure out that sound for YEARS!
I love how when Paranoid Android ends, Jonny's face is like "man, I could've done better" when it was literally fucking amazing.
Austin, you're the best! Thanks so much for this!!
Kristin Pawlewicz You're more than welcome :)!
Ed O'Brien is a true guitar hero
i was like 100 feet from that lightning strike.. I remember how freaking hot it was that weekend. Still one of the best line-ups.. such a great memory
the bonus footage with stipe is amazing. thank you for this!!
Thank you Adam Yauch, you inspire me still from beyond. Rest well.
ed looks like a brasilian soccer player :)
Indeed...
He's so resembling of Kaka
The funny thing is that he lives in Brazil now
Were they sponsored by a cargo pant company then?
+southrules oh the 90s, evne radiohead could not escape the bagg
+mark1800 Jonny could
Hahahaha
Hhahaha
Back when cargo pants were cool!
i'm a huge radiohead fan, and this has never been on youtube for whatever reason. thanks for the upload!
Thank you so much for this. The REM song blew me away, Thom was so into it!
Such an awesome performance of Talk Show Host on this one. Thanks for the upload Mr. Brock.
Thank youuuu!!! One of my favourite Radiohead performances ever!!! and I love REM's E-bow the letter with Thom!!!! Oh, tranks again!!!!!
26:07 man even the tape glitch transport me to that era. you had made me my day with this vid..
Thank you so much Austin!
That's so amazing gigs and amazing crowd.thanks,Austin
Michael Stipe singing live on stage with Radiohead how lucky are we
I see what you did there
heh
There's an HQ version on this on RUclips but it's missing the bonus track with REM. It's the most moving performance imho, so for me this is way better. Thank you! ❤️
Thanks again Austin. You are the best!
With gratitude...I used to think I had enough awesome music, Jimi, Beatles, Nirvana, etc, etc, -- then along came Thom and Radiohead ...now - there will never be enough. Joy reigns
thanks for uploading this concert :)
I was there 23yo - what an amazing weekend & concert that was! I miss all day festivals at RFK in the '90s like this & the WHFestivals. Good times!!
Thank you Thom!
Thank you Austin. I saw this show when I was a kid and always regret not being able to remember it fully. No longer =)
Glad to have you back!!!
Regards from chile
Great to be back :)!! Thank you!
Awesome set thank you!
What a nice surprise for a Chinese here. Just when I didn't think I can love Radiohead more, I found out they cared about Tibet!
I was there. Without a doubt the best performance of the show. To this day this is the best performance I've seen. OK computer before it was known. Nothing better.
Wasn't OK Computer voted album of the year by everyone in 97?
Love Radiohead !! Thank you!
Thank you, Thom!
Great show! So many memories!
Great show, thanks for the upload, Austin. (:
Matheus Tavares Thanks, Matheus!
Arghh, I'm here again.
It's perfection.
How in the world could I have been ignorant of this genius at the time these marvelous performances were done? Was I living under a rock? SMH. At least I can experience this through RUclips, courtesy of amazing people like Austin Brock. This whole concert is simply amazing. It's evident exactly how far-reaching Radiohead's genius has always been. Just look at that crowd.
Kristin Pawlewicz OK Computer was pretty huge at this point but, hey, at least you discovered them. I have friends who still haven't and I'm 40!
southrules Ha, I am older than you are, my friend! I remember watching Creep on MTV back in the day and LOVING it. Just for some reason never followed Radiohead further. Fast forward 20 years, and I am making it up with a vengeance! ;)
Kristin Pawlewicz I remember that too, I honestly had it on a VCR taped and wore that performance out, it's on RUclips now. But then I was young and didn't appreciate The Bends until after OK Computer for some reason.
southrules I appreciate ALL their work now. Looking forward to the release of #9. I am sure it will not disappoint!
thank you man!
Thanks man!
As always Austin you do the radiohead listeners of the world a service
Thanks!
HOW HAVE I NOT SEEN THIS!
oh damn. this was Just added. Austin, you rock. getting my Radiohead FIX
it's nice to see them play in the day....

I’ve never been a huge Radiohead fan. I only got to this video because I was watching pavements performance at this show but this video has completely changed that for me. I had no idea I loved Radiohead so much.
👽 Really miss seeing these guys LIVE ! !
God, Yorke screaming at Creep, It's just... you can't put that on words.
my mom and all her friends were there! I’m extremely jealous I never got to experience a festival like this
Didn't realize Lucky was an REM song until I came across this. Makes so much sense now. WIll never be able unhear Michael Stipes vocals on this . Great upload!
It's not, Stipe just came out to sing with them.
No I meant that the REM influence was in there. There are 3 or 4 songs on the Bends that sound REM influenced. mixed in wit some Dinosaur Jr and Neil Young.
Genius Johnny at 42:32 , playing the guitar and the piano at the same time
OMFG..... All my favourite band of mine supported Free-Tibet. 🙏🙏🙏
Amazing. Thanks for uploading. Brought back many good memories.
Any absolute gem of a concert, maybe my favorite ever. Paranoid Android is bone chilling & adding REM's E-Bow the Letter with Thom's backing vocal is icing on the cake. Thanks Austin!!
I just saw a vid from you on suggestions! good your back! cheers
Great to be back, thank you :)!
Kudos to Austin!!! Fucking great show!! And "E-bow the Letter" is a nice treat! :)
Radiohead Spain are happy with your return. Welcome again friend.
Thom wears the T-shirt printed the word "自分勝手(jibunkatte)". I am a little bit happy because I am a Japanese.
それは面白いですね!
I was there. AWESOME!!!!
great performance they was on fire
Well, whenever camera focuses on Thom, I can't take my eyes off Colin. What a guy.
There are two videos of it on RUclips, one is a practice of the song but only half of it ( r2VAHF2o0TA ) and the other is an audience shot of it during the show ( fpt2_8eA0A0 ). I didn't think it was worth adding due to the quality though, sorry :).
Thank you for the upload, it brings back my psychedelic memories.
Radiohead carrying a lot of cargo back in 98
amazing
You're very welcome, John-Mark Clawson.
LOOK AT JOHNY N STREET SPIRIT OH MY GOD
I always look at Johnny...
thank you thom :3 :3 :3
Thom donne tout.... sublime artiste...
I came from the UK to see this concert.... Anyone remember the little kid scoring a touchdown against all those big college guys when the weather halted the concert.... he got a huge roar from the crowd!!! great gig
IT'S A MIRACLE.
Not a cell phone in site! Beautiful. Just about the music!!
I was there. Both days. This was the day after the lightning ⚡️ struck. Our seats were four sections away from where the lightning ⚡️ struck.
Them baggy pants
Yes it is :).
immortals times
Thanks Austin. Is this where Stipe sings Lucky. Isn´t?
Yup, he sings Lucky quite well...
I just noticed every one of these bands are now rock n roll hall of fame inducties all within the last 10 years of each other. Their will never be great bands like these again.
Edit: Oh and note that all these bands are still relevant in 2019/2020.
Is Thom wearing huge ass converses or just sandals with socks?
What the fuck
Hahahaha
joseangel125 sandals with socks
finally!
I don't know if my association is in the place but... on the group therapy you often need to undergo a trust test, like throwing yourself from the windowsill onto the group arms, hoping they will catch you... Now, live music is such a wonderful thing, makes you dive or surf with no fear at all... Best therapy I can imagine.
10:50 Karma police
