  • Rare treat passing through Kidsgrove on 14/5/23, this is a special charter train operated by Locomotive Services LSL with their full Intercity swallow livery set. Starting at Liverpool Lime Street and terminating at London Euston.
Leading the way at the front we have Class 82 (82139 My Lovely Horse), Mark 3 Intercity Carriages and at the rear Class 86 (86101 Sir William Stanier). Everything looked beautiful in the sun and this is the first time I've managed to capture this set on video.
However, it was delayed considerably after leaving Alsager and came to a halt just before Kidsgrove. Ended up 25 minutes late when finally it passed through Kidsgrove, reported as being due to a train fault. Reached London Euston 10 minutes late and the delays continued on the return back to Crewe as empty coaching stock.

I had forgotten about the Friday charter service using the InterCity stock. I think that just quietly ended last year. The one in my video was a Sunday special from Liverpool the day after Eurovision.

@@mr.atomic2970 I'm surprised it actually ended. It was quite an innovative idea really - a regular scheduled charter train service using classic stock. If anything, I thought it would catch on and expand. Maybe it just didn't do as well as expected and locomotive services decided to withdraw it? I can't seem to find anything online though apart from it just ended.
