OK, here we go for my 2nd "How much does that weigh?" installment, and of course a whole lot of fun! Watch as I hook the 3,000 lb scale to this monster double stump and try to lift it with the Bobcat. She struggles hard, but gets it and holds it off the ground a couple of times. Wait til you see the readings I get on the scale.... You might be surprised....

Wow! 4,000 lb stump! That bobcat E42 is quite the work horse. Keep these amazing videos coming. You and your property are awesome Mr. Kapper. Great weather here in coastal Connecticut. 60 to 70 degrees in February. Good weather helps your dream home project.

E42 has a stated lift capacity of approx 4600lbs, slightly less with the long arm extension - impressive ....
Yeah, now I have to satisfy my curiousity :) I'm going to cut it up and weigh it in pieces!! Gotta see how much it is. Oh, but before that I'm going to lay it down and try to lift it with the thumb.... Stay tuned! :)
time to upgrade your scale to the 6000lb version isn't it? lol
If they weren't so pricey, YES I would! I actually wanted the 4,000# unit, but it was WAY more. I found this one, half price new, because it was missing the remote control...

If i recall it is rated at over 4,000 lbs, over blade, 10 feet out. The bucket weights 300. Thanks Bob :)

Kapper I may be buying a e42r2...you know I’m a jd guy but the Bobcat has so many good features. What should I purchase any help appreciated?
I picked the e42 for a whole ton of reasons. It can handle a 3 foot bucket, it is not a zero turn, so it digs better than the e45's, added an extra counterweight for more stability. It is a great machine! So many options you'll have to decide on! I didn't get the angle blade, too expensive, I got the long arm, not extented arm, does just fine, less moving parts.
Gonna be near time to dig out some landscape boulders from the back forty and work on your thumb skills picking and placing

I have the e35 i the thumb sucks. It has no grabbing power. And everything rattles. Bobcat gas gone down hill last few years.
Well I went with the biggest heaviest Duty thumb that they have and that thing has amazing grip strength. I agree on the rattling though it drives me nuts!
That mini ex is great Kapper. I think that you could probably get most projects you can think of done with that thing. Definitely opens up possibilities for that hunt camp you wanna run!

Very impressive. A good candidate for a first mod is the addition of a clevis mount or chain hook to the back side of the bucket. It is an inexpensive addition and it makes lifting or pulling things very convenient.

You are rated at 4400 lbs with the long stick. Still impressive. What I'd like to see is a large diameter log some time so I can judge whether a mini ex is appropriate for moving large logs onto a sawmill

Hello Kapper, that is quite a machine. I opted for the E20 because of the transport weight. Also have a T595, both from Marion Bobcat, Kyle is the BEST! Welcome to Southern Illinois!
Oh man, thanks so much!! Those Mini's are crazy functional, even a 20 :) I spent too much on the E42, so now I can't get a T595! Good move :)

Weld a hook on that bucket you never put a chain under load on a sharp edge you could also bend in the sides of your bucket
There are 3 hooks on it. That is what the chain was attached to I believe...(Unless this was before I welded the hooks??) either way, now there are 3 hooks on it :)
What's the story behind the stump? Why was it cut so high from the ground? Would have been a lot lighter and easier to move if it had been cut closer to the ground, it seems.
Rubba Dubdub yes you are correct, but I cut it very high like that so that I could fell it much safer. It was surrounded by thick brush and it was quite tall. So by knocking it down seven foot high from the stump I can control where it falls a lot easier and safer. but now that I've watched the video I am going to cut it into pieces and weigh them individually :-) but before that I'm going to try lifting it with the thumb :-).

So while that is an impressive lift, can you do anything with it once you pick it up? If you retract your blade is that going to be an instant nose dive? I'm getting ready to pick up an E45 which is just a slightly fatter version of the E42. I have enjoyed your video's and you are living the dream for sure.

Depends on the brand. Probably 2 Kubota's but one Bobcat :)

John Goodwin no, the Stan hasn't been moved, I've just been pushing the clearing in farther, LOL. the stand is still there but it's kind of standing in the field now :-)
oh I see it now, any idea how you are going to move it looking good, didnt realize you have pushed that much back
John Goodwin I have a plan. ... going to dig it out with excavator. they try to lift it with tractor loader couple inches and slowly move it. if it turns out to be too heavy then I will build a pair of skis on it and drag it
Hey... if those Gold Rush guys can drag those heavy wash plants around with their big excavators then you should be able to drag your deer stand around with yours. heh heh

The actual log is about 6'. The thin end is about 30", the wide end at the bottom is about 40" in diameter. With these measurements the math would be about 1931 lb for the weight of the log alone which is about 360 board feet. Now the stump looks about 4' in diameter and about 18" deep which is about 20,000 Cubic feet which is about 0.7 cubic yards. The weight of that 0.7 cubic yard of dirt is about 700 lbs. The total weight then would be about 2,631 lbs. That log cannot be heavier than that. I think your scale is off.
the scale don't lie man... I've weighed items only a few pounds.. Thats a piss elm, very dense, very heavy, plus there was still alot of clay packed in the root ball.
