Nice review Micchael. Very solid results. I have a combo of the ZXi4 and ZXi5 and like you , I was really surprised at how nice the 4's sounded and felt. I'm getting a really nice high flight out of both models and looking forward to playing them this year. I've had every set of Srixon irons going bcak to the 565's
Had last four generations of Srixon irons and for me they are by far the best irons out there. Currently have ZX5 - 4 to 6 and ZX7 7 to PW
I'm a huge proponent of the Zx7 and Zx5. Have a mixed set now. Can't wait to try these. Thanks Mike.... Excellent as usual.
I own zx7 mkii irons with axiom 125 shafts. Best feeling set I've ever owned, its magical.
Playing the original Zx4 and love them. Three years down and time for a new set so will definitely be trying these out.
Mike, all the toplines are identical. Srixon did it that way in order to make it easier (visually) to blend the 3 models in a mixed set. The offsets differ, but not the topline.
The top line on the zxi4 is thicker
@@RobertFlynn-i4h According to Srixon's website the topline thickness of the 4, 5, 7 and Utility are all identical at 6 mm.
@rlbjr if you go back and look at the video, they have all three looking through the cross section and the 4 looks wider, that's where I got my opinion from
@@RobertFlynn-i4h Understood but appearance can be deceiving. Srixons website gives actual measurements comparing all of the irons and they are identical. Check it out.
For anyone looking to combo. I played the ZX7 (8-pw) and ZX5 mkii (5-7)
I play the ZX7 at standard loft
I then had to bend the ZX5 2 degrees weak for gapping.
ZX5 Def faster
I had a hit with my old Z765 irons at the range tonight. They are still so good. The new Zxi7 are a big improvement in feel on the Z765. Srixon make the best feeling irons.
All sets of irons forged by Endo are fantastic. Endo was the forging house that made Tiger’s irons for years until he joined TM.
No that’s miura…
I've got the previous generation ZX4 iron set and absolutely love them. I'm 66 and have actually increased the yardage of all my irons by 8-10 yards in the last 2 years. Srixon is a real sleeper in the iron market.
I have owned a set of the ZX7's for about 4 years and love them. Went for a fitting after using much loved mizuno mp4's and they were the only "forgiving" iron that gave a feel comparable to the mizuno but with a bit of help. Really, really good and I had no expectation of buying them when I went to the fitting, so definitely give them a try.
after being a mizuno fanboy for many years I got fitted for the ZXi5 after two years of injury. Let go of my JPX919 Tours and I'm in love. My miss is off the toe and these clubs are FANTASTIC with my garbage shots, don't lose much. Looks and feel are on par if not better than Mizuno. Would highly recommend
Another great video. Must admit been playing Muzino 225 for past 2 years and love them but I’m getting older and considering getting a bit of club help for distance and forgiveness. After hearing your reaction to the ZXI4 feel I think I’m gonna go give them a hit. Great review as alway, keep them coming 👍
You stated zxi4 lacked a bit of spin but landing angle and height was fine the zxi5 only span a bit more ...zxi4 is a cracking iron people should look at more itll help it will go high enough and stop quick trust me i playwd the original zx4 and height wasnt an issue and stopped quick
That blockey square topline is what appeals to me. Many of the Japanese forged irons are squarer
Which i love
I have the zx 4 from last year and love them so no surprise to see zxi perform well
They are the best feeling irons I’ve had. They are a massive underdog in the iron department an cheaper than the big 3. I recommend ppl to try these even if they don’t buy them
I’m still gaming the 785/585 combo. 4-6 585 7-PW in 785.
Definitely considering another combo set.
Playing srx zx5 stiff shafts for the last year absolutely love them great distance off them .
They are great irons and totally overlooked. I have the zx7 mkII and love them. Just ordered a set of z-forged II / zxi7 combo set with axiom graphite shafts. I have played many forged ironssuch as mizuno, cobra, callaway razr and titelist. Not saying anything bad about them but these are just as good and are in my bag. Not brand loyal.
ZX5 mkii irons 6-P with graphite shafts, great feeling irons and they fly the distance. I have hit the ZXi 5 irons, still considering if I will get them, definitely feel softer than my mkiis.
Picked up new ZXI5 Nippon G950 set a Month ago my handicap has come down and confidence has gone up best performing and feel Irons ive played Launch and Power
Great sound coming off the 4's...amazing for a hollow club! Great review! Thanks.
The great thing about Srixon irons is they look like an evolution, I’ve had my 765s since Feb 2017, hardly a mark on them.
They also make incredible value used as they ( unfairly) depreciate heavily.
Whilst you will always after a Tournament win see Titleist , TaylorMade and Callaway pushing the latest daft named clubs… Srixon just plugs away… you are seeing more and more players signed to them.
Oh yeah… and Matsuyama’s 35 under par record score…. 😀
I was always a big MIZUNO fan, but when I tried SRIXONS I found out that they even felt better. Their forging process seems superior to others. Currently playing ZX5 MKII 5-PW and I will definitely try the new ones and will try to blend. I am over 60, being fit and healthy, still you can’t really stop getting slower. So to keep my single HCP I may will blend ZXi4 for 5I, ZXi for 6I&7I, ZXi7 for 8I-PW, or just 8I-9I as I like playing a specialized wedge as a PW. Fitting and Feel will tell.
Great video Mike. Srixon are largely ignored, but find them great. Zx7 is such an amazing feeling club.
I’m currently gaming the Cobra Forged Tec, but will be looking at these
I have the original zx5 I have tried the zxi5, it added 3mph ball speed and 5 extra yards. Not worth changing at at £1000 pay out, never got the try the zxi4 4 iron but I would consider adding that to my bag and take the zx utility out which is set at 23 degree.
Michael, wonderful review of these Srixon irons. I now want to go and test these clubs. Always enjoy your videos.
I recently got the t150 irons from titleist. Absolutely blown away how long and soft they feel
Great irons
@@roryodonnell I agree 👍 got them myself
Still game the T-100S’s bc I like a thinner top line. Just personal preference. But yes, incredible irons
I have a set of original ZX5 & they are fantastic, I toy with the idea of only changing 7 to PW now I’m an improved mid handicap, the 4 to 6 still have plenty of life in em, the new ZX7 sound mint
I've got zx5 5-7 / zx7 8-pw mkii blended and it works really well. No gapping issues. Although given the choice id prefer to have the 7 iron as zx7 to be honest because I feel it's just as easy to hit (I previously had OG zx7 5-8 / zforged 9 PW. I changed because even though I prefer this style head split, I'm a club ho and couldn't resist a well priced set of zx mkii with Axiom shafts)
I play the zx5 from last year. They are superb. I did want a combo set but fitter felt the spin and launch window wasn't quite right. I'm probably going to get the 7's in 9 and PW anyway as my only criticism is the wedge does look a bit chunkier than I'd like it to be sometimes. Plus I'm desperate to feel the pure forged feel on some shots!
They make great irons. I was recently tempted to get a set of these. I couldn't decide between the Mizuno 245 or the srixon Xi5... And the only reason I went for the Mizuno was the availability in Australia with the shaft that I wanted I couldn't get the shaft that I wanted in the Srixon but they are great irons. I used to use the 701s years ago and honestly they were probably one of the most underrated irons for game improvement iron back then there's something about their forging process too that they do really well.
Srixon has always been the best feeling irons. Ive ordered my Z forged 2/ Zxi7 combo set. Btw who is running the marketing department over there at Srixon? These should be everyone's bag they are so good.
Great review sir, I've tried the ZXI 7s man they're amazing irons just a great feeling accurate perfect set of blades. If I hadn't gotten my p770 this year already I would go for them
Love Srixon irons! Thanks
Playing Srixon Z785 4-PW. Just bought Z forged mark II 4- PW. May do a blended set with the two. Z forged is just 1° weaker.
Cheers
Gonna finish my zxmk2 with a few of these zxi 7's
Beautiful looking club
I’ve tested previous ZX 5 & 7 models. Haven’t put them in my bag as I found other clubs better for me. I like your feedback on these though. Definitely the underdog Srixon……. ⛳️👍🏼⛳️
Hope your well pal....
@ I’m ok thanks Mike. Currently hatching a plan to come up to PGH to see you in the near future ⛳️👍🏻😁
I have the srixion 565 irons whichvare forged. Is there really that improvement in terms of forgiveness, distance and feel with the newer srixion mk irons?
Any chance you'll be reviewing the jpx925 forged?
I play Srixon irons. Outstanding. One complaint though for some time has been the top line thickness. Not sure why Srixon hasn't made some changes to their players irons.
The top line is slightly thicker than needed so that it can blend visually with the other irons in the range in a combo set. Srixon encourages combining the sets, so want people to not have a massive visual difference when looking down at the ball.
Thats why I like them. I think it sets them apart from the other big brands. They dint seem thicker to me just square
Michael, Ben Hogan has also come out with 4 new sets of irons that look absolutely beautiful any chance you can get those on the channel for some reviews?
Nice job Michael.
Thanks Michael, great review. Really impressed w/ the Srixon ZXi4s. Despite the stronger lofts they seem to reach the same height and have a similar landing angle as the ZXi5s. I play to a ~12 HC index, but just turned 70 and have begun losing distance. Will definitely give them a try. Just out of curiosity, were you using the same shaft w/ the three irons?
Yes same shaft in all 3 👍
Better than Vega irons you tested ??
I like looking at the witb pictures of pga tour pros on golfwrx and I notice a lot of guys using Srixon irons blend the zx7 and 5 models and an occasional Zx4 long iron, a few players swear by the Srixon utility/driving irons. For myself I notice these irons aren't exactly cheap bargains in the pre owned market.
ZXI7 4-W Modus 120X 😎
Same here. Great setup
Can you please compare these with the ping and mizuno game improvement irons, these for instance seem low in spin rate from your review of the pings. Game improvement versus game improvement please.
hi 75 mph swing speed here ...back issues.... do you think the zx4i irons would produce enough spin for an old guy like me ?
Just ordered the ZXi4's 1 degree weak.
Perfect that ...I'd have done same tweak the loft
Still absolute power bats…. Mega distance irons
Nice move!
@@CKGolfer Just out of curiosity, why’d you weaken the lofts? Were you worried about low spin…because they seem to reach about the same height as the ZXi5s. Did you consider a combo set (ZXi4s + ZXi5s)?
@@brianbernstein7754 Spin and I was not launching it too high. Mike has more speed than I do. Also, like Mike, I was launching the ZXi5 higher and the feel wasn't as good as the 4.
Could never get past that blocky topline. I also find the turf interaction in ZX7 to be compromised by the thick sole, even with its V-grind. My numbers and the feel were great on sim off plastic turf. Hit them outdoors off fairway and they just don’t feel or perform as well. My gamers are Miura 501’s; much better look at address, much softer feel and better turf interaction.
I do carry a Srixon U85 20*, bent to 21 and the same in 18*, bent to 18.5 that’s in the bag for certain courses. I find them extraordinarily forgiving off tee and turf, lots of spin for good control and very consistency in launch and distance. Yes, they are a bit ‘clicky’ and lack feel but it’s not a scoring club. They are straight and consistent while typically landing reasonably soft. Great clubs.
I do wish Srixon/Endo would make more of a players version of ZX7. No I am not suggesting a ZX9. 3 distinct models is enough while avoiding the confusion so many other brands are strangled by. I understand they are attempting to accomodate blended sets but there seems very little to distinguish the ZX7 from 5. Take the 7, slim the sole by 30%, make the top line 50% thinner and shrink the entire head from heal to toe by 20%. I still think it could blend with ZX5 in the 3-4-5 irons but you’d now have a 7 with improved aesthetics, improved turf interaction and likely more consistent launch and spin.
What’s your handicap?
Miura's do definitely not feel softer than the ZX7 imo. I do agree about the thick topline on the m2 but these do look to be thinner. Turf interaction for my swing is unparalleled by the Srixon. Nothing comes close.
I tested the zx5 when I bought my cobra king tours. I swear it was just a coin flip. Srixon makes lovely clubs.
Bought cobra king tours at end of season. No chance to play yet . Till spring. Whats your opinion of them? Mid handicap
@andrewrudzinski5653 perfect. I lost a little distance, but they are so easy to predict.
I'll probably never stop using Z-Forged ... went from I to II ... and will probably keep going ... tested all kinds .. nothing comes close ...
Just got a set of Z forged mark 2. 4-PW modus 120 stiff. Amazing quality.
Wonder if there’s any difference between the ZXi7 and its cheaper stablemate the Cleveland ZIPCore XL.
This is a joke right?
The top line is supposed to be the same across all three to help with blending
Srixon vs Miura TC-201?
I know the zxi7s are more your club Michael, but the zxi4s had much better results...distance and accuracy. Thoughts? I'm a 4.5 handi playing Mizuno JPXs
make stunning irons
Great irons but the top line too thick on the 7s. Z forged are money though.
Want srixon so bad , but where I’m going to get fitted doesn’t carry them :(
I play the ZX5/ZX7 mk II is it worth the upgrade?
I don’t think so mlk looks just as good or better I think you’re good I wouldn’t switch no need to
99.9% of the time the answer is no when comparing a single model gap.
I have just done this - the improved feel of the new model made it worth it for me
I'm thinking we need to compare the Zxi4 8 iron to the 7 iron of the 5's and 7's. Compare apples to apples not the number on the bottom of the club
WITB for you??
These would be "over"dogs for me. Beauties.
You put them up there w/Vega
yes
Combo set of 4 & 5's you will be having 2x 7 irons in your bag. They are so different. 5's goes 175 yds 4's go 190yds
The spin rates on the Zxi4 are unusable for most golfers. Way too low.
So it’s another hunk of metal on the end of a stick wow! How many times can they give it a new name or put a new stripe on it before people understand that a set of clubs from 10 years ago for $100 will perform every bit as good as any of these new Mega expensive wonder sticks?
About as many times as a pseudo intellectual contrarian makes this comment on a new club video.
I’d play you for money tomorrow. It sounds like you’re used to parting with it!
@booger65man your mum does charge a lot. It's worth it, though.
My mom does not like straggle toothed limey Brits! Can you just buy a toothbrush and some toothpaste and use it once a week at least?
Wow vicious
wtf is that thumbnail. how old are you?
