Argentina grew into the tournament and the experience gained against the Netherlands helped them settle down in extra time/penalties against France. I think if Argentina hadn’t topped the group and played France in the quarterfinals they would’ve been knocked out but I’m glad it worked out this way and Messi was finally able to lift the WC.
*the help they got from the refs grew as the tournament went on.

I think honestly your predictions were as good as you can get for this world cup it was full of surprises and underdog stories
Spen being more critical of his, lets be honest, pretty good predictions than Southgate's QF exit.
I really hope that this world cup will finally help football fans to see that there are amazing teams outside of Europe and maybe south america. If you ever watched morocco play you would never have put them last in their group or at least not after canada. I mean not even the most optimistic moroccan predicted that we will make it to the semi finals but at least we had enough faith in our team to make it past the groups stage. Hopefully now people will be more open minded towards other teams that are not europeans

Im Moroccan and i had Morocco finishing 2nd or 3rd in their group but people disrespected them and thought they will finish bottom of the group behind Canada lmao

Great analogue about England, Spen! You look at Germany not even making it out the group, Brazil losing at the 1/4's as well. It was a tournament of surprises. I just hope England's young core with 1 or 2 tournaments under their belt can now kick on and lift a trophy at the Euro's. Although how many tournaments do some of our leaders like Walker and Henderson have at their peak?
This England reminds me the 90s-00s Spain: great players like Raul, Morientes, Hierro and still never even reached a real clutch match, always out at quarter finals or even earlier. They kicked in when an extraordinary group of talents that grew altogether since childhood stepped in, dominating 3 consecutive major tournaments. I think England is almost at that point, youngsters coming in the squad are really talented, if Southgate can mix up a talent-smoothie and fit them in a functional squad they can go far.
No other England team did this well: 2nd at Euro 2020, already a huge achievement, good world cup, unlucky in the bracket, you were the real semifinal for France, and the game was more in English hands than the French one. England and France are set to be the benchmark for European football in the near future

For over two decades, I've seen Croatia beat numerous strong teams, so I can't consider them as a dark horse.

Macedonia eliminated Italy in qualifiers. Iceland beat England at Eurocup. Beating strong teams happens from time to time. Croatia made it to the final in 2018 on the back of 3 penalty shootouts. Penalty shootouts got them to the semifinal in 2022.

I was disappointed when I watched the first video and spen had Morocco coming last in their group. I actually did not watch the rest of the video cause I was annoyed. I was like spen have you not looked at the teams cause Morocco have quality players throughout. But I definitely appreciate the apology and him putting his hand up.

Morocco was my dark horse and I correctly predicted them to make the semis. Before the tournament I wasn't sure why but just felt something coming from them.

im a bit gassed i got all the groups correct (like who wins and comes through, 3rd and 4th) sounds impossible cause of japan and morocco but dont ask me how I just guessed in my head, I didn’t like germany sooo.. but I got 4/8 correct in the 16s and 2 to be correct in quarters and 1 to be correct in semis, saying an argentina vs morocco in the finals, for argentina to win and ruin the moroccan dream, but besides morocco, I did get 3rd place to be croatia, but I said beating france after the finals.
I can understand everything, but to think that Canada is better than Morocco is insane
I would disagree with the Netherlands being dark horses they have always been strong internationally except for 2016-2018 due to changes around the team. So the dark horse as the Netherlands is not really appropriate. Being dutch I expect Netherlands going to the QF minimum and can definitely reach the finals. I definitely believe we could’ve made it to the finals if we kept pushing after scoring the 2-2 but due to our lack of urgency and very defensive play style we lost the QF to Argentina and just unlucky with pens.
Don't get Southgate fanbois, France had 6 of their starting XI out injured and we still lost to the French B team. 2 more years to wait for another early exit from a tournament and an empty trophy cabinet.

Let’s be honest here, France were dominated by Argentina in the final and dominated by Morocco in the semi’s. England made them look good against them. England have the deepest and probably best squad in the tournament this year and to not get past the quarter finals is a bit of an embarrassment. It seems every tournaments whenever England have to play a nation around their standard they bottle it

@@ha21yang93 but argentina also had a hard time winning against australia and failed to beat the netherlands in regulation time and go as far as penalties...this is not the case with france france beat easily Poland and also beat England in regulation time. So France played better in the 8th and quarter-finals than Argentina.

Honestly youre predictions werent anything special, this world cup just had a lot of surprises. If you told me Japan would top their group over Germany I wouldnt have believed it, let alone believed germany just straight up got canned. I loved this world cup because after match day one it was clear that literally any upset could and would happen. Im so happy Argentina won, but truthfully I had them falling to Brazil as well for a France Vs. Brazil final, as did the majority because they were the clear favorites. Just more reason to love this sport and all the competitions we have the privilege of watching!
that is probably because many of you don't know much about S American football. The matches between Argentina & Brazil are almost even 42-43 games (1 + Brazil). We have been playing against Brazil for 112 years 😂😂. We know how to play each other. This way around (unlike the Brazilians) we were very determined to win, we would had won against them.
@@pm1660 Oh yeah no doubt, Argentina (minus the Saudi game) put on a spectacular performance, but so did Brazil until their upset loss. Would’ve been interesting to see a Brazil V. Argentina quarter final, maybe the outcome would’ve varied maybe not. But thats the joy of the game, its all the small details the impact the trajectory of a tournament

Mbappe should have won player of the tournament didn't score as many penalties and played amazing in every game other than the England one.
Mbappe just scored, the real MVP for France was Griezmann. Messi made a legendary world cup, yes, he scored a ton of penalties, but they were not invented, all awarded after a nice play. You don't count the assists, Messi did a couple of them that doesn't even make sense, the one for Molina is out of this world, never watched it, three foes around and still send it perfectly to goal. The 3-0 against Croatia another treat of greatness, treated the best CB in the tournament like a puppy getting trained to be a shepherd. These are things that are and should be accounted in the best player of the tournament. If you don't see the magic when Messi has the ball on his feet you didn't watch enough Messi, and time is running out sadly. Greatest footballer of this era, we should be glad to have seen him play.
He also wasn’t that good in the Morocco game and was virtually anonymous against Argentina for the first 80 minutes. Messi was good in pretty much every game. Mbappé is seriously becoming overrated.

Group H, I actually knew that Korea was gonna advance in a tiny sliver because of some talent from there. But the big factor why that was true: Uruguay had old players that couldn’t do it anymore and young players that weren’t ready for the big stage.
