I discuss the recent developments at Chelsea as their owner Roman Abramovich is sanctioned, and the club is only able to continue doing essential business (no transfers permitted and controlled spending). How bad will this be for Chelsea and what does it mean for the wider world of football? As always please let your thoughts below!

Now seeing Chelsea's bank account with Barlcays has been temporarily suspended! Could be a big problem as after yesterday's news Chelsea were going to have to operate on cash reserves (as they essentially couldn't earn new money) but if they can't access them they'll be in big trouble!!!

Spencer, I have been following you for a long time now, and the most intriguing factor to continue watching your content both on this channel and Hashtag's channel is the high level of professionalism, effective message delivery and constructive back up to your opinions and arguments. Your platform can assist in providing a strong message, not only to injustices to the Ukrainian people, due to the war they are facing, but also to other wars around the world, as you rightly highlighted during your latest video. Once again your opinions, backed up with reliable information and influential suggestions, could be a strong tool to deliver positivity to a massive audience. Keep it going and hope that peace reigns the world over.

Great to see you back Spen👍🏼
I agree with most points you've said football wise, but I don't feel that regular citizens have to feel guilty for not caring about every single humanitarian issue in the world. It's human nature to be concerned with things that affect you more closely.
This is coming from a person living Hong Kong - a place with its own serious troubles over recent years. I genuinely wouldn't expect UK people to care about what's happening over the other side of the world. If you do care, that's obviously great and much appreciated. The reality is, there's not much an average citizen can do apart from "showing support" and "raising awareness" on social media for countries such as Ukraine, or Yemen, or Palestine.
While all that social media awareness is great, it takes a whole lot MORE to pressure governments to take real action, and I guarantee you 90% of people who show social media "support" will not sustain their efforts to continue beyond a week or two.
Of course, its never a bad thing to raise awareness about such issues. I'm just pointing out that its natural for humans, and governments (to a lesser extent) to focus on what's closest to them.
On a lighter note, any chance of a Spen and Alex video coming out soon? 🤣

I don’t think it’s as easy as declaring support for one side or another if you’re in Abramovich’s position. I can only imagine there would be massive consequences if he did declare complete support for Ukraine, possibly even life threatening if Putin could put out a hit on him and equally he can’t afford to completely come out and support Putin without his image in the UK being massively tarnished so I have some sympathy. However, you can easily argue that he would not be so wealthy and in his privileged position without initially supporting and tying himself to Putin in the first place so once again it is a case of that decision coming back to bite him

Your totally right, great vid Spencer! This should set a precedent but I’m not hopeful going by recent developments, as per new oil deal with Saudi Arabia. There’s so much dirty money in industry, so much exploitation propping up the economy. If football can help shine a light on these inconsistencies then that can only be good. Changing things is a big movement not something that can be done overnight, but through sharing views and knowledge we can make a start.

Chelsea fan here, here’s my thoughts:
    1. It’s the right thing to do.
    2. I’m disgusted if Abramovich DID fund Putin’s agenda.
    3. I’m still thankful of Roman’s contribution, best owner in the football world.
    4. The Chelsea employees don’t deserve this.
During the pandemic, Chelsea didn’t furlough any employee, and they were paid fully. Now, they are practically out of jobs. Hopefully, this mess will be sorted soon.
P/S: As much as I support Ukraine, I feel like there are double standards when it comes to these similar issues. Where are the medias when Ozil supported the Uyghur case? Why did they distanced themselves from the Zionist attacks on Palestine? Why did they go silent when there’s literally other ethnic cleansing going on in other parts of the world? Sounds pretty BS to me.

I think the differences between Ukraine invasion and the on goings in Yemen or Palestine/Israel are:
    1) Both those other issues are much less clear cut. Russia has full scale invaded a sovereign democratic nation, the other two are not as straight forward or extreme as that. For yemen specifically, Saudi arabia is 1) Armed with weaponry sold to them by the UK government, and the UK is well aware of this, they are allies. and 2) the situation of who they are bombing/fighting is much more complex. On a personal level i am absolutely agaisnt what SA has done and the sale of UK arms btw, but legally it'd be much harder to punish SA the way we have russia even if we wanted too. As for israel, they have almost full US backing and know that, i dont see how the UK could do anything close to what we've done to russia to them without basically breaking our alliance with the US completely, which would of obvious reasons be disastrous.

I literally say in the video, that we all including myself, have to do better. The mainstream media dictate what many of get exposed to but we have to educate ourselves beyond that. Having said that, for fairness, I make football videos. This is a video about Chelsea ultimately. The Israel/Palestine/Yemen etc situation hasn't impacted a UK club yet in this way to my knowledge. Doesn't make it any less important, but that would explain why I hadn't spoken out on it.

    • @sully1722
      @sully1722 2 года назад +1

@@SpencerFC I understand that very much but why is it that it needs to affect the UK personally in order for the news to be on mainstream platform shouldnt it be given awareness for the sake of humanity and the lives at stake (Palestine, Afghanistan). Had this been Russia invading a Middle Eastern country the news would have labelled it fight against terrorism(the Middle East). Moreover it was told football and politics do not belong together after the conflict in Palestine or Afghanistan yet players are doing a round of applause for a minute for the victims in Ukraine. Is this not politics and football mixing? The UK government will support and give media attention to that which will benefit them.

well said for the most part spendog!
imo it all comes down to roman's claim that the money that chelsea is sold for goes to ukraine and its people. of course right now his wording leaves open different interpretations. you among others think it's dishonest and would like proof where the money goes to etc.
to me personally it sounded very much like he is not agreeing with the war and wanting to help. in the end that is what should and will be the main topic of discussion and base for the contracts with the government.
because there are voices getting louder and louder saying that if the government doesn't want to let roman give the 2-odd billion made from the sale to ukrainian war victims, then the reason might be that the conservative party of england want the money to go into their own pockets. this opens another can of worms and would be a very bad look. what we need is full transparency from both sides. otherwise every party involved will be worse off than before. the "theory" mentioned above not being disproven, would inflict huge damage to the UK in the public eye.
as a chelsea fan, I think that a new owner will take over in less than a week. and this may or may not sound arrogant but we are current champions of europe and the world. nobody can take that away from us. I can live with a few years of mediocrity. although I honestly don't think the fall of grace will be too hard. I see us be a top 10 team at worst.

@@frankunodostres473 yeah thats what they wants abramovic to give them the license to not give him any money from the sale. As dumb as politicians can be they are smart enough sanctioning Chelsea will just lose them voters.
