    3:12 so as someone thats played both YGO and MTG digitally, if you want a better f2p experience and overall less p2w experience, play Master Duel, its by far the best between the two, the caveat to that is you kinda have to hotwire your brain from any other card game out there, bc games are sometimes very one sided and combo/control heavy and sometimes feels like you're not playing a two player game
    but if you want to play more formats, have like more back and forth game and is okay to throw money into it, MTGA is def better bc you have more variety in terms of things to do, they have a lot of formats (tho not the popular ones sadly) and its still fairly fun in my opinion

    As a guy who played both magic and yu gi oh, I'd argue magic would be a better choice for the viewers (that haven't played yugi) as yugi has tons of text bloat that makes the game really hard to understand. Magic also has many formats you can play that have different power levels and overall age of cards. On the other hand we have yugi with insane powercreep every new set. I'd argue YGO is a really cool game too, but with magic it's less likely to lose your sanity

    • @RedWurm
      @RedWurm Год назад +1

      yeah, if you're playing against other people with similar experience and card pools, ygo can be a laugh, but the complexity floor is pretty high. And matchmaking at low ranks has a lot of bots, smurfs, and people playing complex decks really slowly, which isn't the best content. Look at a lot of the most popular ygo gameplay series - it's mostly people coming up with their homebrew formats with friends so they aren't just slamming meta decks into each other on ladder.

    I will say that you should pick up magic, it is more like hearthstone as you get more turns. Yugioh is very comobcentric, each archetype usually just combos for 3-4 minutes and end on a board with multiple negates, and a way to kill you the next time they attack. Turn 4, is usually non exsistant.

    • @RedWurm
      @RedWurm Год назад

      Yeah, especially in more competitive contexts, the game is either 'combo as hard as you can, shut out your opponent in one turn' or frustrate that gameplan so badly that they scoop. And they're not always terrible, but when you math up against someone learning to play adamancipator or salamangreat or similar, that's 15 minutes of your life you won't get back, win or lose.

    Last month I made an even rainbow deathknight and I love it. I have 1.2k wins with DK and 9k wins overall and have always made my own decks so I do know my shit. Don't know the winrate of it sadly as I play more on mobile. I do primarily play duels so haven't took it to legend as of yet since it's just an absolute waste of my time when I average 4-5 packs per day from duels, and easily complete every expansion f2p with duels anyway, but it did comfortably get me to low diamond last month and is on its way there again this month so I'd definitely reccomend trying it for anyone that's been looking for a fun wild Rainbow DK deck. The MTGA wild card system/ economy is a greedy garbagefire, and I haven't personally played Arena for a couple of years because of that. That being said, from a content perspective, I do watch MTGA and would love to see Rarran's take on the game if he actually seriously got into it. Plus, I honestly think between the two, magic is easier for new veiwers to understand. I've tried to watch Yu-Gi-Oh and it's just nooot for me. And from what I understand, Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't have a standard format? Just a banned list. That seems rough for new players.
    If he does try MTGA, I hope he tries the Gladiator home-brew format! Think wild singleton with 100 cards. It's a good time.

  • @ajkcool
    @ajkcool Год назад

    Yu-Gi-Oh is a snooze fest to play and watch imo. It's just whoever draws their combo starters OR whoever draws their negates in the opening hand wins. I've only played a game that lasts longer than three turns once in my 50 hours of Master Duels, and that was because we both handtrapped each other on our first turns, then bricked for about three each.
    Not to mention it's "Are you going first? Time to combo for 5 minutes while your opponent sits there," or "Are you going second? Time to watch your opponent combo for 5 minutes while you can do nothing."

    I remember crafting a Golden Genn right when he was about to rotate out because some video told me it'll be good for dusting. I never ended up dusting him, for no real reason. I even made a deck or two just because. I didn't even play it much. One time I even made Even DH for the lols, even though it does nothing.

    • @KnownAsKenji
      @KnownAsKenji Год назад +3

      Just to clarify, you did get the Dust for the card and also got to keep it, that was the old Hall of Fame system, I did the same for normal Genn and Baku and basically any Hall of Fame, would've done all golden if I could've afforded it. So yeah even if you didn't dust the card and didn't play it much, it was still worth it, the video was correct.

    About picking up another card game. I'm obviously not in the stream but here's my two cents:
    I found your channel from the MtG player rates Hearthstone cards stuff and stayed for your personality and the content despite the fact I haven't played HS in years.
    I used to play HS, but decided to stop when the HK riots ban happened.
    I've played Magic off and on for about a decade and it would be a dream of mine to see you branch out into our game lol
    Never got into YuGiOh myself, but have friends who are invested in it. From an outsiders perspective it seems like MtG would be a smoother transition especially for your type of content since game lengths and card formatting and gameplay are similar. YuGiOh has some similar elements, but on the whole functions completely differently and more importantly: the matches are *super* short which might make your style of content harder to make for it
    _edit: i totally forgot, but mtg has SO many formats to check out which can help diversify content, while yugioh only has the one format_
    My final thought is that you could always do a couple streams with the people you've had on your channel who play the different games and give MtG, YuGiOh, or Runeterra all a shot on streams til one clicks with you.
    Those streams would also definitely be huge for your fans that enjoy those respective games
    Love the content and I'm excited to see what you make next no matter what you decide (but especially if it's Magic) ❤

    On the topic of which card game to pick up. Magic is really fun and one of the most complicated games ever. However, with MTG: Arena, you’re missing out on the best casual formats with commander, pauper, modern, pioneer, etc. Yugioh has its own “Master Duel” meta because it doesn’t have most of the cards ever released so it’s a bit more casual and less sweaty sooooo 🤷‍♂️

    If you were being genuine about playing another online tcg I'd recommend yugioh a bit more only because it's a lot more free to play than magic since building a standard deck would take months for magic but for yugioh it's probably like a week
