  • In this video, we have Peter Klutt discuss the history and current values of the 427 Semi-Competition Cobras and Gary Klutt taking his first drive in an S/C Cobra! For Ultra rare classic car content check out our recent video on this 1 of 1 1970 Chevy Nova SS with an L89 engine: • The Car That Shouldn't...
One Of Just 29 Original 427 Semi-Competition Cobras Produced, this example is undoubtedly one of the purest, most original Of Any S/C Cobra left today. This S/C has its factory original Dual-Quad 427ci side oiler engine, factory original aluminum body, and factory original chassis. Recently went through a concours quality restoration performed by Legendary Motorcar. Restored as delivered, in Its Factory Sapphire Blue paint. Accompanied with a copy of the original Shelby American sales invoice, its SAAC Cobra Registry entry, and a documented world-class restoration. When you break down the total production of the S/C cars, of the 29 produced, many were raced hard and suffered from accidents, trauma and replaced engines, replaced bodies and replaced chassis. This car somehow made it through life unharmed and undoubtedly remains one of the most original and exquisitely presented 427 S/Cs extant. As one of just 29 S/C Cobras produced, it is notable for its incredible rarity and consequently, remains truly the holy grail of all street-legal Cobras.

I agree, Ken Miles was a Great and Totally Unique Driver, A Driver's Driver. If the film "Ford V Ferrari (Great Film), was correct and true, I don't know either way, then Ken Miles was treated Despicably and Disgustingly by Leo Bebbe. A Vile man, who kissed 💋 Henry Ford the second's Arse, constantly. Finally Ken Miles didn't deserve to die, the way He did, a Cruel fate. 😔

I know why he lets you drive them. He is your Dad. He has experienced the raw, visceral power and joy of a 427 S/C Cobra. He loves you, young man. He wants you to live the love he has experienced in his years on this planet. The love of a child and Cobras. It makes perfect sense to me. Enjoy young man, and recognise the love your Dad has for you.. It is a rare breed for sure.

There’s an old story about the 427 cobra I heard many years ago but it could be just folklore but anyway here it is….some hotshot 20 something year old with some money goes into the dealership and is adamant about wanting to buy a 427. The salesman informs him that the 427 is a beast and perhaps the 289 would be more in line with what he really needs. Being a fearless guy he tells the salesman that nope he wants the fastest one and he’s got the money ready. The salesman nods his head and says he will bring one out from the back for the test drive but per policy the salesman will be behind the wheel. After a thorough romp through the back roads, twisting through the turns, fast accelerating and giving him the full experience of what a Cobra is capable of. Upon returning to the dealership the guys hair and clothes are out of place and he’s as white as a ghost after one hell of a test run. He then looks at the salesman and says”you know my friend, think you are right about the 427. That drive convinced me that the 427 is way too much for me to handle and the 289 might be the more tame of the two”.Upon hearing that the salesman says” by the way that WAS the 289” Not sure if that ever happened but it’s a good story.

So I vaguely recall a magazine issue from the later 1970s that did a test with a 427 Cobra, it did it in 12 seconds, not the quarter mile but instead it went from zero to 100 back to zero in 12 seconds flat.... OMG. I was around 14 when I read this. I wanted one then, I want one now, lol, but at 60 years old I honestly would prefer the 289 version, just a bit easier to deal with. I have been a gear head of small block FoMoCo engines all my driving years and built many but never a 427... What a treat. Great video, thanks for the show. ✌️

The S/C Cobra was and still is the benchmark of all sports cars. Whatever you drove, you didn't eff with a Cobra, it was going to embarrass you. As a teen, I have 5 cars I wanted to own before I die. This was the top of the list. (Second was an early 80s 930 RUF) The other three I have owned and still have one of them.

Lots of conflicting info on "Medium Riser" The Medium Riser can best be thought of as the "R" code Low Riser side oiler variant. So basically all the "R" code 427s in 1965+ were "medium risers" as Ford took the bigger valves from the high risers, but didn't use the monster ports from the high riser = Medium Riser. Great engines. Bulletproof, tons of peak power, exceptional powerband.

What a fun - and beautifully edited - episode about a car model with a great story behind it (and it's the first time I've seen a photo of the Gen-1 and Gen-2 Cobras, side-by-side). This reminds me of why I was a car enthusiast by age 10, which was 1962, but also why cars now, no matter how technologically advanced, just don't do it for me.
