I started out with an raspberry pi. Although I had some experience due to a school project with Lego Mindstorm during that time we visited a nearby university and a student there explained us how to program them with Java. He also showed what they do after playing with that and some projects done by students that built their own robot cars during their time there, for example how to map the floor and save it for later to navigate freely in the room and deliver packages while taking people walking through the hallways into account. Another one built a turret shooting nerf darts at a person that always wore a certain colored shirt. Now that I tried some things myself it's actually not that hard. Currently I try to teach my robot to bring my empty coffee cup back to the kitchen. The AI still needs to learn a bit to find free space and adjustments need to be made. I also work for it to bring me the TV remote when I'm to lazy. Or bring me the keys when I'm leaving the house. And have you ever run out of toilet paper but it's to late now? Let the bot get it for you.
Sadly I run a bit low on processing power so I need to upgrade there a bit. Currently it shares some cpu power with my pc if it needs it via WLAN but that's not optimal so currently I'm thinking of investing in a better solution.
I love how you show the basic of being a robotic😊 it got me even more interested... My goal is too become a robotic engineer!!! You helped me understand so well thank you
At 34yrs I'm finally starting down this trail. All because I looked for a sphero r2d2 and thought it was way to expensive for what it delivered and searched for more. Galaxy's edge has droids but even less capabilities but Lego has a Droids kit with software. Got me thinking but no reviews really were giving me the feeling it was a recommended learning tool that better creators still saw as worthwhile ways to learn. So I searched for videos on how to get into building robotics so I could cram something inside a cheap Target build your own r2 unit that is basic white plastic. Figured it would be a project I struggle over the electronics and paint up a display model that never works as I envision. Thanks to your recommendation I now have a new plan. Learn to play with robots with Lego! It's magic, 2021 really is starting to feel like a good one :)
This is my first time embarking on a robotics project, I’m starting off with a simple ‘jitterbug’ robot which requires no programming. I’m very excited to start!
I'm 13 years and I did not know where to start on making a robot especially when I have barely and materials I am still trying tho and I usually like to draw the structures I would like to build and thank for giving some advise on how to start!
You might start with old Powerwheels motors and gearboxes for base driver motors. Some people have given me old Powerwheels. I used old car windshield wiper motors for the arms. I have made my robots bodies of plastic trash cans and wood.
Im quite interested in robotics. Im 15, i have a rasberry pi but idk where to start. I wouldnt mind spending about £30 but not much more than that. Any advice?
I agree with almost what you said. And the suspense was not that hard to stand.... TADA Arduino! Italian engineers are GREAT! So are the Brits with their GREAT raspberry Pi! I do think that starting with robotics nowadays is more of deciding to do it. There are so much kits around with terrific pieces of code and pretty good tutos. Thank you Nikodem.
I will never understand why Lego discontinued Mindstorm. Or at least why it has still not been revived with all of the excitement over the last few years surrounding maker culture, Arduino, IoT and Raspberry Pi. Lego had a head-start in this space and it seems like they could have really positioned the line well to be a cross-over classroom education and toy line.
Hi Nick. Great video. i have a question or two. Is it possible to upgrade or modify a toy grade robot into something more? I have a OP-1 robot from sharper image I purchased online from Amazon and I want to install treads in place of the wheels that it comes with and also install a cellphone camera as well if possible to record like a Go Pro camera. Any info on this would be very helpful if possible. This will be my 1st real robot project and I want to make sure Im doing everything correctly. I subscribed just in case you have videos on this subject. Thanks in advance.

You can slow down the playback speed. Click the settings cog in the bottom right of the video. Click Playback speed. Try 0.75, 0.5, or 0.25 til you're cosy. You can also choose a custom speed.
This video took me like 2-3h to shoot and then about 4-5h to edit and color grade it. I also spent like 2h on writing a script. But usually when I make project video it takes few days to make :)
Hi, I'm a mechatronics engineer. I want to make a robotic arm that will move objects using computer vision. I use YOLOv5 as my computer vision model. What is the best and most efficient platform to make a robot that plans its own trajectory and connect it all with computer vision from YOLO?
Arduinos and cherry pies are great but sometimes you don't have room for them so if u wanna build big ur gonna have to learn how to design circuit boards
