that intro shot looks awesome. Me and a friends used to do this late at night on the east coast, my buddy was nice enough to let me use his spare Z baas reel.We never caught anything like the fish you got, very nice fish.
@First Name Last Name i learned of the existence of a black gibb spook, the lure he used. That's all what I found informational in this video.
Nice fish Ryan! Had two fish just under 30 lbs each on two consecutive casts on spooks the other day, one went 40" 27 lbs, the other 44" 27 lbs also. Not quite like your cow, but at least I know what it feels like 👍
Great fish !!! I left MA 30 years ago, I fished west Dennis for blues I am learning the ocean side has mush better fishing. Need to get back up there for big bass on the fly!!

In a calm, quiet spot like the one I'm fishing in this video, I've found that a slow and subtle retrieve works best. If I was fishing in rougher and windier conditions, or if the fish were blitzing, then I would speed it up. I don't remember exactly but I think the plug floats. Nice big striper very cool, Hey just a thought that you might consider is a cloth tape measure because they don't rust out or cut your fingers like a old rusty tape will. Most hardware stores sell them for less than 2 bucks and they last for a long long time. You can wash a cloth tape as well if it gets slimy which will destroy a regular metal tape.
Wow nice fish bro my dad always told me don't put ur reel in the sand or water my hole life so kinda brain washed now but dosent bother a van steel nice to know so those are good reels Alot of people say there not that great but just being able to dunk in salt water is worth it we all know what salt does hope too see u fishing at canal some time keep lines tight ty

What rod, reel, and line test are you using? My Uncle lived in Orleans and Chattam with his wife but only caught big trout.....Goose Hummuck was his friend who owned a baitshop, ever cross paths with him? Great vid man...i'm comming
I'm actually going trout fishing today with Phil, who's been the new owner of the Goose Hummock for the past several years. LOL. That rod was a Lamiglas Surf Pro 9ft rated for up to 3.5 ounces (which they don't make anymore). Reel is a Van Staal VR175 (www.themightyfish.com/products/van-staal-vr-bailed-spinning-reel) spooled with 40 pound moss green Power Pro and a 40lb Seagur Fluorocarbon leader.
Hi Todd 👋🏻I would consider casting a Danny plug style lure that was filled with menhaden oil. If you could master the "slow drip" of the oil, then it might work well with a plug like a Danny that just slowly slithers (and releases oil) across the surface. Honestly I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make in fish-catching ability, but it would be cool to try!
My Fishing Cape Cod Yes I see. Back here in the Midwest in Tennessee we fish freshwater lakes for them we often find them in big schools 20 to 30 foot deep but not feeding I have thought of making a jigging bait that would be filled with chum or oil and maybe the Then it would trigger them to feed.
Could be worth a try. I run into similar situations here on Cape Cod. Very often during the summer I'll find schools of stripers that are resting, not feeding. Usually I have to wait until a tide change, or until sunset or sunrise to trigger them to bite.

Hey Cary 👋I let my pole go into the water because it was the easiest thing to do at the time, and because the water was calm. If it was rough and wavy, I probably wouldn't of done that.
No weight. Did not have a scale with me. Solid fish though of 46.5inches (if I remember correctly) so an estimated weight of around 38-42 pounds maybe? LMK what you think.
I was wondering that too, but perhaps in this case it pays off, if it was barely hooked the fish may have had some leverage at the shoreline and shake the lure off. Ryan did pull it in fast so that fish had plenty of fight in it. Also you you run the risk of tripping while backing up. Keeping it in the water is better for the fish. All things to consider.
The reason the reel costs $575 is so I can drop it in saltwater or sand and not worry about it. I actually don't even bother rinsing it in freshwater at the end of the day and I've used it for many years now. Worthwhile investment. ✌🏻
Thats why i'll never stop fishing , that can happen to anyone, just get out there and do it,
Great job, Ryan. Thanks for the great video

The Spook is my favorite lure first light out... but I have missed so many fish with it. So many blow ups and no hook set. Good video.

Fast - panicked fish. Slow bumps, injured and dieing. Add an occasional pause, and sometimes thats all you need to entice the bite.

My favorite secret spot 🤭
Yes ..I like..jozz for youu.!
When the pole gets tossed in the water that's when you know you've got money to burn.
Hey Cary 👋I let my pole go into the water because it was the easiest thing to do at the time, and because the water was calm. If it was rough and wavy, I probably wouldn't of done that.
@@MyFishingCapeCod I believe u, having money to burn isn't even any of my business 👍
no walk the dog on that plug?
There is a very subtle "walk the dog" action
What’s the name of the rob ?
The rod is a 9 foot Lamiglas rated for 1oz-3oz. It broke a long time ago, so unfortunately I don't have the rod spec numbers on hand.
no weight??
No weight. Did not have a scale with me. Solid fish though of 46.5inches (if I remember correctly) so an estimated weight of around 38-42 pounds maybe? LMK what you think.
gotcha. great fish, man. That hog was every bit of 40 lbs if it was an ounce, maybe more.
why didn't you, just beach the fish from the start, as im taking in line im walking back, dont sand in one spot,
Couldn't tell ya Paul, that's just how it happened, but I definitely understand the benefits of your backing up technique. 👍
Poor reel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reel can easily withstand a dunking in saltwater. Still silky smooth after 5 months of hard use.
Vs lol
Must be a good catch when you drop your thousand dollar reel in the water.
The reason the reel costs $575 is so I can drop it in saltwater or sand and not worry about it. I actually don't even bother rinsing it in freshwater at the end of the day and I've used it for many years now. Worthwhile investment. ✌🏻
@@MyFishingCapeCod amen to that, my heart or wallet wouldnt let me test that out. hell of a fish!
Your tell is ruined after leaving it into the saltwater for that long G
Hi Harrison 👋🏻 The reel is a Van Staal, and it is fully sealed. They are designed to be submerged in salt water. 🎣
