  • If you are a subscriber to the channel you saw my big striper that I lost while plugging the surf a couple weeks back. Needless to say, we made up for it in this video. This was probably one of the most epic catches on the channel yet. This catch had it all! Check out the video to see how it all went down.

What a great catch off the surf man!! Those stripers get huge and they fight like bulls! I'm definitely subscribe, good to see other RUclipsrs fishing channels from where I'm from, the West Coast. I see a few people commenting that they've been skunked a bunch of times and even though they are determined they're not landing them. I've been lucky to have caught a few stripers from the beach and there are a few things I've learned. Like someone stated, finding a good spot is at least half of the battle. I would mainly catch them off soft shell sand crabs here close to Monterey, California. When looking for a spot, I would usually look for rip currents, where the waves break and the place were there's pools. Another thing I liked to do is be holding the rod and be ready to set the hook as you can miss them sometimes when they spit the bait/lure out. Finally, last thing is that they have to be hungry and feeding at the time or else even if they're in that spot, they won't really bite. Thanks for the motivation, I'm thinking of getting out there again and trying to make some surf fishing videos as well!!

Wow, congrats on your huge hog of a fish. Dude, after watching your videos, I've been out there for a stripers at Pacifica, Rockaway and ocean Beach at least 8-10 times and never caught a striper yet, not even a bite. I've tried softshell sandcrabs, kast masters, sp minnows, lucky craft, bucktails, Mickey jigs, list goes on. I've been out there for hours and hours plugging and casting but nothing but a few perches. I feel like just giving up. what the heck am I doing wrong? I know it's not supposed to be easy and need some patience, but I don't know how to read the water which you said it's like 75% of the battle. I have no confidence like you said when I cast my line out.

Waltsnoop I feel the same...🤔🤔🤔 but I'm not giving up just yet. I'm going to continue trying until I get one... GL to you.

Fishing is a learning game. Every time I go out there I learn something new. For example, this time I learned that the flash minnow hooks are no match for a monster striper, lol. Keep at it, I am sure you will catch one! Hope to see you out there someday!

Was at Rockaway beach a few weeks ago, lost a few on jerkbait. Guy next to me landed a 41" striper on anchovies... the next week, nothing... so it depends if those fish are there and wants to bite or not. Good Luck

Thanks for the response. What are you actually looking for in the ocean water when you're driving around? How do you know when to give up on a spot and move on to a new spot? Looks like some places you cast for like 10 minutes and another times 30min or more?

Waltsnoop look up videos on how to read the beach. I believe Rich Troxler has a great one on RUclips

REDEMPTION! Seriously, congrats man! My hooks bent out too on my lucky craft when I caught an almost legal halibut. I've since replaced them with gamakatsu 2x trebles and they've worked flawlessly

how much stronger are the gamakatsu trebles, 2x you think?

I literally just bought some of those as replacements!

Change out all your sp minnow factory hooks too they are notorious for getting bent out on large fish

I've caught alot of striper on lucky craft jerk baits. I always put stronger hooks and split rings on. Nice fish though
