Mark Donohue never quite fit the look of a race car driver. But regardless of how he looked on the outside, his methodology not only changed the literal rules of racing but also the industry as a whole. So how did this All-American, Ivy League guy end up in a race car? How did he go from being nicknamed “Captain Nice” to “Dark Donohue?” And why did he pull that classic race driver stunt by coming out of retirement after only a year off? Today on Past Gas, we’re talking about Captain Nice himself, Mark Donohue.

Hey Donut, maybe not the best time but on the main channel you've driven every supra, every viper, every GTR, and every civic. Now I was thinking about if you drove every Nissan Z car in a video. I understand it takes a lot of money and effort to perform but I think it would make a great and successful video. I mean this is just a suggestion. Sorry if it was a really bad place to comment on this suggestion as I only did it because there is only one other comment in this video as of typing this so I thought there would be a higher chance of one of the donut crew members seeing this. Thanks if you even read this!
Yes please.
I second this ✋
Thanks!@@ollie42
I agree
also, every nissan frontier year and trim level.
HOLY SMOKES! Your guys' riffing improv chemistry has really hit top speed since the early episodes. One of the most entertaining podcast intro/warmups I've heard in a long long time. You guys can't ever stop what you're doing. Hell yeah.
Keep up the good work boys.
I absolutely love your podcasts, already looking forward to the next episode 💪🏼
Do Offenhauser!
Learning about that saying with a freshly relocated thumb is some kind of serendipitous
thats sick, i had no idea his first race was in new hampshire
I really liked Nolan’s mispronunciation of Belknap lmao
(Bell-nap) for those wondering
7:34 when Past gas became about farts and not cars for a second
As for the death of Swede Savage, he survived the actual crash and was talking to rescue workers, but the fire that he was surrounded by until it was put out wrecked his lungs. If not for that fire, people would be wondering how he survived a crash that was that bad at a time when drivers were killed in crashes that were far less extreme.
Yes a offenhauser episode! 🙏❤️😎🤙🛻💨
YES ON THE OFFY!
Ah I was scared it was a replay of the penske episode for a sec 😂
Good for her.
How cool would be if Fernando won the championship in an Aston Martin?

Wow, just completely glossed over his insane wins with AMC in the Trans Am series and how he helped develop the second generation Javelin.

Hey Donut, James Pumphrey needs a geographical location reference for the characters he voices so he can do his magic that we all love to hear just that much better. James, your comical voices are underrated for sure.
Thanks for the laughs, long time listener
