The lengthwise pyramid and star tent are easy to get in and out of and have a porch option

Everybody loves the lengthwise! But how to get in and out? And how do you pitch that awning? Same things for the star tent: a simple pitch with a lot going for it.

A tarp can be a really good alternative to a tent if you combine it with some skill, the right stakes and a ground sheet and/or bug bivvy or bug headnet.
Especially pitches like these, and the strong hexamid, the trail tent, the beaked forrester et cetera bridge the gap between tent camping and tarp camping. Let me know what you like and for what you still need a solution.
