Mega Man X - Sting Chameleon's Stage

- HOW DO I VIDEO AHH! That said, finally finding a gap in work long enough to get these last few Mega Man X videos done. Apologies for the long week, but university's rather relentless in your last year, yo. Basically need my free time to just sit back and play games as I need that rest between bouts of work. The said, I intend to get the rest of these posted within the next couple of weeks. I may not have time for LP videos anymore, but I do have plans for other types of videos that shall hopefully be entertaining while requiring a lot less time (sub-title commentary is VERY time consuming).
Now then, more about the stage itself... This stage is actually fairly simple, but dang if it is ever long-winded when going for a 100% run. The armour upgrade in this stage features a mini-boss that tends to take far too long to kill off. I try to speed things along as best I can, but still do pretty sloppy, ah well! Other than that, nothing really to note.
Sting Chameleon himself is a boss I thought about doing a buster only, no damage fight with, buuuut due to the amount of time the mini-boss prior eats up, I did NOT want to do that all over again everytime I failed. The main difficulty in this fight comes from his falling spikes... which fall in very random places. There is a bit of luck to this as even fast reaction times may not be enough if they fall in particular unwelcome patterns. His other two attacks are pretty easy to dodge, so nothing too much to note. If you have trouble with his tongue lash, just try to quickly move out of his range as it is usually pretty easy to see coming.

Like how you try to mimic the stage select tune by flipping around the select highlight box, that is something i always do when playing Mega Man!

the mini-boss fight in sting chemeleon stage takes so long that one time I came back to the stage after collecting everything just so I could hadouken him... and it took 2 hadoukens... it's not a one hit kill

The helmet upgrade will actually protect you from the falling rocks the miniboss causes to fall in the tunnel area. Just something cool.
Good thing about the Mini-Boss is that we know Dr Light made sure nobody was getting that upgrade but X

I enjoyed watching this.
3:30 Always liked the background of this part. This is going to by hyper-specific and make you go "Why the hell would you know that?", but it reminds me of a campground in the town I grew up, but not when it was open with people, but rather the time I went there in the middle of the night on a full moon. The clear ground with unnaturally spaced out trees, the weird uncanny valley of natural and manmade, the bright glow from the moon (though it was blue and not purple like the game). It was kind of surreal. That was 20 years ago.

@UsaSatsui Uh... I think that Pink is right. Defeating Launch Octopus makes the water rise in the heart-container room; defeating the miniboss makes the boulders stop.

Actually, Boomerang Cutter is RT-55J's weakness. Shotgun Ice is a much better alternative because it's easier to aim, but it does less damage.

Man this brings me back. Probably 2002 maybe 03 with my cousins playing on their system. We always tried too beat Sting chameleon and could never do it. Finally I beat him and I was God for a day. I don't know how long we had been trying since that was nearly 20 years ago but I know it was the best feeling in the world at the time.

The only thing i can say about the forest stage and boss is Meh...well Sting was tricky at first until you can find a loophole, then he's pretty easy.

@SwerveStarEx It doesn't. Beating the miniboss does that. Launch Octopus just floods the basement as well as other parts of the stage, basically allowing you to get the heart.
@SuperYoshi1141 I honestly wanted to, but ugh, the mini-boss just grinds on for too long. Had he been absent I would of done such and took on Sting Chameleon much earlier.

Ah the Mega Man X series. I've played the main X series (Excludes GB Games and command mission). Unlike the normal Mega Man games it's always cool to see X grow stronger by collecting power ups. Its sad that Roahm doesn't want to play these games, as he's missing out a lot. Although I respect his opinion about the video he showed about not playing the X series. However not even the X series can compare to the difficulty of the Mega Man Zero and Mega Man ZX series. Those games are BRUTALLY HARD!
Man, that boss is so difficult that the UI glitched up a bit when that chameleon exploded.

@Ardygun Hehe, well only a few people tune into those! I wonder how many watch the archives, but it does at least give something at least. Now if only my technology and internet connection were not so crummy so I could improve the audio/visual quality on it.

@RavenFinsternis He does a good job covering Mega Man rom hacks, and plays very well in a different style than me (speed and efficiency rather than damage prevention), so I enjoy his stuffs. Plus he seems to be the one to watch to see whenever Rockman 4MI actually ends up being finished.

@Rexaura888 Mix that with the number of uses it allows and getting ammo back between fortress stages, and yeah, it is easy to just spam the thing through entire stages! I at least make sure to show off uses for a few other weapons, though.

@CastlePokemetroid The only thing I dislike about the ZX games is the continue system. If you get a game over you have to restart from either the last transmitter or save file. Also there could have been some save points put at locations right before the levels. Most of the deaths I got were usually due to bad enemy placement or over use of instant death items. The hardest thing in the first was getting level 4 victories and all medals. The only X games I find the hardest are X6 and X8.
@deafmonk24 I usually tend to as well, but past-me was apparently being sloppy and forgetful at the time of recording Sting Chameleon fights. XD Ah well, least he did not poke me at any point.

Possibly the most broken weapon in a Mega Man related game? Have you forgotten about the Metal Blades from Mega Man 2 now? Anyway great guide. Helps a lot for first time players of the game. AKA, me.
i always stay in the middle of the boss room and used the boomerang from side to side but its quicker that way.

I always thought Boomerang Cutter was the sub-boss's weakness since it took me half of the maximum amount of boomerang cutter to take it down. So which is it? Shotgun Ice or Boomerang Cutter?
I'm too late but cant you skip the mini boss on this stage? I never fought him nor did I know he existed.
...A question though. Why bother getting the Armour when you are doing a no damage run?

greyfox278 If you defeat Launch Octopus before you do this stage, it allows you to get the heart container and fills the stage with water.
