One important thing J didn't bring up is how you can modify the gameplay and controls to feel more like a console game.
In the settings menu whilst in a stage, you can scroll down and see options like enabling or disabling manual aim, auto aim, precise jump (controlling the jump height by holding the button longer, like in X-X8).
This changes make it feel more in line with the previous X, it doesn't feel as much like you're playing a phone game.

is there controller support though? If there is then I'd probably consoder picking it up.
I hate the price tag though, $30 would be fine if this wasn't just a repurposed gacha game. Everything when it came to the main game is already done and Capcom already got the money when it was a gacha so pricing it at $30 is insulting, some $15 games are putting this game to shame. Capcom would probably blame Megaman if this inevitably doesn't sell well.

The biggest thing for me about this game is just that this concept is now out there.
The concept of taking a F2P gacha game that hit the end of its life time, and just giving a offline version for people to keep enjoying what the game has in it.
It's probably wishful thinking, but I really hope this becomes a common thing to do. Ever since I started playing this game, I looked at all the gacha game I play with a sense of "If they made an offline version I can see how they could change this, or that".
Fate/Grand Order, Azur Lane, Honkai Star Rail (or all Mihoyo games really) are ones that I have played for a long time now and can immediately see how good an offline version like this would be for all of them.
Heck, I think a game like Genshin, specifically, would be 100 times better if an offline version were to happen.
But I know, this is probably never gonna happen and X Dive will be one of, if not the only game that even tries to do this. Afterall, why sell something to people if it doesn't keep making more money.

I completely agree with this sentiment. I've met so many people who aren't into the gacha style of games (or already play a few and don't want to take on another one) so having a way to preserve them and remove/balance some of the aspects that are meant to drain your wallet could open the door to a wider audience and in some cases make for a more enjoyable experience overall.

Being based on a gacha game there will be a few quirks that are unavoidable. The big one is power creep. More recent characters tend to be stronger because the game had to keep things exciting for existing players while it was still free to play. So if 2nd Armor X feels like he can't take a lot of punishment, it's probably because he has none of the defensive abilities (shields, healing) that were uncommon in the early game but practically mandatory as time went on. Likewise, the story doesn't really justify the massive amount of content because that content was meant to be drip fed over a couple of years and not dumped all at once.
Still, I love the concept of taking an online game at end of life and releasing an offline version for posterity. I cannot tell you how much I wish Dragalia Lost got that treatment (that game had a TON of story content). But, the NebulaJoy version of DiVE is still going, so I'll keep playing that for now. Some day, though, I absolutely will pick up Offline.

What I like the most about this game is to be able to keep playing a game that I enjoyed a lot even after the official servers shut down. I think that it is actually a nice idea and there are quite a few gacha games that I whsh had followed that practice, especially Terra Battle or Dragalia Lost. I do hope that some other games will follow this example in the future, because, yeah, watching a game that you played for years and enjoyed a lot shut down forever is not pleasing at all.

I just wish they would go the 20XX/30XX, or Harmony Of Despair route and let people play co-op. It’s so much more fun to at least bounce off your friends all playing along, even if the gameplay is simple. May not be a mega hit still, but it at least provides longevity if you’re playing through stages and you’re tired of playing by yourself.

@@earnirplaygames9172yeah, but modding online into it takes a long of time in the modding scene. Take Skyrim and Cruelty Squad as examples, Skyrim Together was a recent achievement by the community, and it was finished after like a decade of its launch, and it helped a lot that Skyrim uses the same engine as Morrowind and Oblivion. Cruelty Squad on the other hand has its multiplayer still in development, and its still under heavy testing so it will take a while to be implemented properly.

Something of note is the modding scene has started picking up with X Dive Offline, and some of the released mods are both impressive and so beneficial to the game's quality of life features. Buffs to all of the old B- and A- rank characters, new weapons like Axl's dual guns, the Devil May Cry collab being restored, and they even recently released Prometheus from ZX as a brand new character.
While the online game was held back by a shrinking budget as the player count kept dropping, I hope we get to see the community continue unofficial updates for the game to keep improving the experience. I haven't given up hope that we'll see Lumine added to the game 🤞

The glass cannon part was likely done for one of two reasons: either to make you take the 3 star requirement seriously or because characters like Cinnamon had self healing skills that everyone abused like crazy on story mode for the former.
Also the removal of online elements would be something I consider an improvement, given the online game kinda forgot to take power levels into account when doing PVP. This lead me to many battles that I couldn't win because my opponent and I were in completely different weight classes and viceversa.
The Offline version's also got an update to the bittersweet ending of the online release.

Is the translation of the dialogue any better in the Offline version? The Online version was definitely serviceable enough that I could understand what was going on, but you could definitely tell it was done by people that didn't speak fluent English, or at least didn't speak it as a first language. Even the official mobile EN release had a near identical translation with only a few things here and there changed (such as referring to mavericks as "mavericks" like they were in English, rather than "irregular" which was used in Japan and in the Steam version.)

    • @jvts8916

@@randomnpc445 don't know, I played the ES version. It called mavericks "irregulares", which is like the third term used in spanish because X8 called them mavericks and ZXA called them disidentes.
Either way, it's also possible that jp name "irregular data" was used unaltered on purpose back then because it sounded more like software terms and because before the introduction of iCO it really did seem like the Deep Log was just bugging out.

A few thoughts as someone who is on the cusp of Platinum Trophying the game:
The glass canon problem is something I experienced as well, but you can fix that by grinding for Shock and Screws, then going to the Armor Repository and purchasing, equipping, and upgrading armor, which not only increases your power level, but also VASTLY increases your defense to make the experience much more balanced.
Unfortunately, this is one of the MANY things the game simply doesn't tell you, which leads to my big problem with this game.
XDive Oflline was not designed to be enjoyed seamlessly by people who skipped the online version. All of the various tutorials and explanations in the Online version are completely absent in the Offline version, meaning if you don't know how anything works because you skipped or quit the Online version, you'll likely be completely lost playing the Offline one.
One of the biggest and most fun elements of the game is the events, which unlock at level 60 and are playable at 300000 power level (give or take), but picking them involves clicking a drop down menu and just activating them from a list, almost like they just left an element of the Dev Kit in the game. No picture depicting which each event is or anything. If you didn't play the Online version and don't recognize the event titles, you won't know what a lot of them are until you activate and go to them in the Event menu.
Furthermore, there are characters/armors that are simply much more useful than others in terms of utility, and if you didn't play the Online version, you simply won't know which ones are which, and because the game is so new, there isn't much in the ways of guides to tell you which characters are dope.
Falcon Armor X, for example, while low in most poeople's tier lists, has his Glide feature from X5, allowing you to break level terrain and find hidden elements much more easily, (finding all 250 is required for the platinum -_-) but you might not know this because quite a few armors/characters don't have 'all' of their iconic abilities. X2 and X3 armors for example don't have their item finders, which would have been REALLY USEFUL IN THIS GAME. X4's armor also doesn't have hover, which is a crime. Axl doesn't have his hover ability either. Harpuia can't fly, even though you'd think he would be able to, since he's based off the Falcon Armor, which 'can.'
There's also certain characters that are just more fun to play. Gaia armor X's Buster skill has virtually NO charge time or cooldown, but limited range like in X5, so you playing him feels a lot closer to playing a traditional X game in some respects. Another Iris, a version of Iris that is fused with Coloniel, has a guard that makes her invulnerable and heals her, making her fun and balanced.
There's also just a TON of subskills and passives and all these things that were designed to maximize your performance in PVP that are just left in the game. Zero has a Shield subskill for Rekkouha that is kind of vital to his toolkit, but you might overlook it with all of the clutter.
All in all, I still think this game is a lot of fun and 100% worth it if you're a diehard Megaman fan, but if you skipped XDive during it's Online run, you'll probably want to look into a guide before hopping into Offline blind.

It was previously "free" but you were goign to have to either spend money or a lot of time from all the micro transactions built into it.
So the fact you basically get the game's full roaster and upgrades and no extra cost is an absolute steal.
Chances are if you played the mobile version you were going to be paying well over $30 eventually.

@@metazoxan2for me, the issue isn't so much that the game was free previously but you'd spend a lot more trying to get everything the offline version provides, as much as the game design makes the game not feel worth the price it is given.
TBH, the 3D models and animations might make the game worth the 30 bones (they seem to have care and detail out into them), but being a game that wasn't made with long play sessions in mind, it is hard to justify to yourself, as a consumer, to spend them without personal issues.
Also take into account that the most they did was rebalance some things around, and since they haven't shut down the service in all regions they must be making decent bank out of it regardless, so the $30 still stink of greed a bit with that context.

Because of the cash grab nature of mobile games though, they don't usually live very long and there are times I wish I could play the offline version of it with everything unlocked.
30 bucks in a mobile game is like 20 gacha pulls. Hell I've seen some niche games have 3000 yen price tag on their monthly pass(Genshin Impact's is 5 bucks for comparison). at around 2:40 you mention that the game wants you to play it with a analog stick, HOWEVER, in the previously mentioned button customization, you CAN customize the the movement towards the D-Pad, making the game MUCH better to play! You can use the d-pad for movement; you just need to remap it like everything else (except the manual aim). Also, I should mention since it looks like you have Precise Jump off in your video, if you turn that on you'll jump based on how you long you hold the button like you would in any other Megaman game. As far as balance, coming into this from the Online version, I think they did a really good job of it. Throughout story mode, I never felt too over or under powered, and didn't have to really go grind somewhere else to keep playing. So I think that them cutting the tutorials for the upgrade systems is probably where our play experiences differed so much.

Well J, firstly fair review. I mean it's not the greatest game but tbh, it's something I've always wanted, a game where I can play as just about anyone in the series I can think of lol. It would've been more ideal if we could play in more stages throughout the franchise, and longer more complete stages too to compliment a pc experience. Speaking of the main series tho, there's actually a way to make the game play more like the traditional experience. Firstly, you have to load into a level (I don't know why these options aren't in the main menu too), and once you get control of the character you'll see a pause button at the top left of the screen. Press it and scroll down, you'll see toggles to switch off things like auto aim, give you precise jump, etc.
Also, the modders have put together some interesting content for the game. They restored the dmc stuff, and have made a lot of other character playable, and added a ton of skins.

I played the online version for a while in the spring of 2023, and I remember thinking it was reasonably good, although not quite up to the level of the earlier titles-sort of like how Mega Man: Network Transmission felt a bit "off" somehow, even though it had its good points.
I don't remember having the grinding problems that some people did, but I also didn't try to plow through the story mode, either; it seemed like getting your daily rewards by dipping into each gameplay mode for a little bit was enough to level at a brisk pace (or "brisk" by free-to-play standards, anyway), and spamming the special moves of someone like S-rank Zero (who the game just gave to you if you logged in every day for a bit, I think) made it easier to manage some of that early content. But I can totally see how that approach wouldn't be immediately obvious for everyone, or how it might be just off-putting.

    • @thenonexistinghero
      @thenonexistinghero 8 месяцев назад

I never thought Network Transmission felt off. It felt very responsive in terms of controls like running and jumping. Attacking could feel clunky, but that's because of how chip usage was implemented so that you have to think about how to use them best. Works for the kind of game it is. Heck, the game still feels better to play than any other Mega Man game featuring 3D graphics other than maybe Mega Man 11 (and yes, I'm including the 3D X games too).

  • @ProtoZealott

It's kind of a back handed compliment, but the one thing I always enjoyed about this game is how casual it is, while retaining the Megaman DNA. I would never recommend it to someone who wants a proper Megaman Experience. However if you just want a simple Megaman game to play that doesn't require your full attention, then this is perfect for it, as some characters are so overpowered that it almost plays itself. So you boot it up, and play the story or elevator while listening to podcasts/audiobooks/whatever you're into.

Love it , every character I want can be unlocked through natural means of gameplay, customizations and upgrades available and new costumes , it retails the nostalgia of many MM games wrapped up💝

Yeah I was thinking I'd probably get this on a sale just for the nostalgia factor. Not really expecting it to wow me as I usually get bored of mobile gameplay very quickly.

I finished the game with no problem other than the random crashes that occur. If u finished the game there is a teaser of a possible sequel or a new megaman x game entirely which is something I'm actually excited for

Yeah I expected this type of review, and I do agree because it is a mobile gacha game. Either way, great review, J.
Hope the project's goin smoothly. Cant wait to see it when it comes out

Bringing up that they didn't use Green Grass Gradation for the Area A levels eases my soul just a little. That's pissed me off from minute one and still eats at me. ZX in general was handled so weird in DiVE, but a playable Pandora made me happy as hell and will be the eventual reason why I get Offline. DiVE was such a mixed experience for me (playing ranked PVP was nightmarish and so busted), but when I had fun, I had a lot of fun. Could have been handled far, FAR fucking better, but definitely wasn't a bad experience for me.
