American Idol did not do her voice justice. I always thought she could sing, but the girl can SANG!. Plus, she has some soul to her voice. Her technique is awesome. She could literally sing the phonebook & I would enjoy it. She's a powerhouse singer!

When I heard Kelly duet with Josh Groban on the cover of All I Ask of You, I never would have thought she would sing musical and broadway but she blew me away with her vocal range. Seeing her sing a classic beloved Sondheim's Losing My Mind - Chef's Kiss! Love it.
One of my favorite things about Kelly is her ability to sustain a note. She'll let it hang there, she doesn't rush it, there's no loss in pitch. She can hold a note beautifully for a ridiculous number of beats and for maximum impact. She can do all the awesome vocal manipulations and flourishes of the best, but there's something to be said for just singing the dang note and doing it well.
I know I want to hear it in her renewed prime vocals - the closest we've had in years is the duet with Josh Groban for Phantom and that's not reallly opera or recent anymore.
There is a long video on RUclips with Jason Halbert her music director. It's terrific and covers the whole behind the scenes of music production for the show...really good. He's been with Kelly her whole career. Obviously she's wonderful to work with. Her entire band moved to NYC to stay with her. On a show the other day she mentioned they filmed 9 songs in one day of all styles to have them ready in case she gets sick. She's the best!

So audience members put in a song request prior and have to write why it has special meaning to them. From there someone is chosen. I do not know if she is part of selection from there or not, I would assume so though.
Was it Rolling Stone that had her low on top singers? My conspiracy theory is all the others got together to shade her because the industry KNOWS when she sings their songs…it becomes the best rendition.
