    I have the SRPE51 (same watch, but on bracelet with polished bezel), and also have the StrapCode Jubillee. I love how the polished bezel matches the center links on the bracelet. It is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

    This version of the DressKX with brushed bezel surrounding is the best looking imo. Although I really like jubilee bracelet Maybe I would have gone for the oyster style bracelet here. I noticed that the gap between the lugs and the end link might be more of a Seiko issue than a Stapcode issue as the lug looked a little bit rounded off towards the inside.

    Shane I have a big problem I can spend big money on a watch but when it comes to aftermarket straps and bracelets I'm as cheap as the day is long. I can't help it. "$60!?!?! for a bracelet? Too much!" but 10 or 20 times that for a watch and it's "that's not bad...". oh yeah the clasp I meant to mention that, I wish they did more of a Rolex style jubilee clasp on their jubilee bracelets and not a big honking dive clasp.

    • @markgrieves1307

      Hi Nefarion, Mark in England here. Take a look at the Rolamy Store on Ali Express. I bought an Oyster style bracelet for a Seiko 5, reviewed by Dave at Just The Watch (top guy like Shane). It was about getting a kind of Rolex look, but I can't remember the model number. Anyway, he left the link for the store and stated which one to get. I did what he said and wasn't disappointed, although I was only aiming for elegance and not necessarily the Rolex look, which is kinda pretensious depending on your point of view. I wouldn't call either Shane or Dave pretensious though. Let's just say the bracelet made it look beautiful to my eyes. Guys like you and I have class, it's just that we are always inexpensive and never ever cheap.

    I had mine fitted to a strap code and switched to a long island jubilee. Much prefer the long island. Taper is better and the smaller clasp feels better. The long island bracelet is also smoother and more comfortable. Both good, but for me its long island all the way.

    I picked up the brushed bezel gray dial version on eBay (that already had an Islander oyster bracelet - worn once with tags, etc).
    The Islander bracelet seems to be the better option by a clear margin.
    I also got a domed sapphire installed for ~$70 and can’t imagine a better watch for under $300 out of pocket.

    Personally bought the SRPE51 a few months back given it was on sale, and the stock Seiko bracelet was "ok", but always thought to add a Jubilee. Yours looks pretty good, but I do think from watching and reading maybe that clasp is a bit big for the watch, and the band could taper a bit more (part of me thinks it was adapted from the larger divers that use 22mm). That said, I also just found out about Marc's version from the comments, and it might be perfect for this watch.
    All said, Seiko did a good job on this one. It's not really a diver, a dress watch, or a field watch...but sort of a combo of all three, especially when paired with the right bracelet or strap.

      I did the same, got the Jubilee style bracelet for the Kamasu and it's all kinds of fancy, sporty, more premium looking and all around a better addition to a great watch. Though, I had the one with the rose gold bezel edge and there wasn't an option for a two tone bracelet, I still think it makes it so much better.
      A nice strap/bracelet does wonders for a decent watch and makes it just amazing.

    I bought the gilt-dial SRPE57 (polished bezel, on bracelet) and the blue dial SRPE63 (brushed bezel, on nato) and then I purchased two Strapcode bracelets: the Super-O and Super-J. And I must say that they have elevated the watch so much. What I found out (together with my wife who wears the blue one) is that the jubilee style bracelet fits better with my gilt dialed version with the polished bezel. The polishing of the central links nicely follows the polishing of the bezel and creates a great continuation. The oyster style on the other hand fits more nicely with the brushed bezel watch (the blue one in this case), IMO. It blends with the other brushing and the fact that the brushing is in another direction is not that profound here as you have various brushings on various surfaces. About the clasp thoug: it is still a bit beefy, you're right, but its much better than the stock one. The reason is that the foldover part is a bit shorter (about 1 or 1,5 cm) compared to the stock one, so this one, when folded on your wrist, takes up less space under your wrist than the stock one. Also, the whole clasp curves a bit more than the stock one, so it conforms to the curvature of my small (16,5 cm) wrist much better than the original one. From what I've studied in the pictures, the LIW clasp seems to have a very large foldover part with a lot of sheet metal there - it could be fine for larger wrists, but this is a no-go for me.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  3 года назад

      Good to know. I've never seen the stock bracelet, so curious how they would compare.

    • @LudekVokac
      @LudekVokac 3 года назад +1

      @@RelativeTime The stock bracelet is not bad per se, I think that a lot of the criticism is based on the sins in past. Yeah, the clasp is pressed and the endlinks hollow, but it's not rattly or pulling hair (the links are solid this time) as it used to be with older Seiko 5s. It just isn't very good for smaller wrists, which is also true for the NATO the other models come with - the strap is pretty thick and doesn't bend around so easily and the watch sits pretty high on the wrist with it. It's a shame, as the watch is very compact and looks great on the wrist - just not on the stock strap or bracelet (that might put some people off, when they try it in the store).

    Great review 👍
    I just picked up a Strapcode O style bracelet for my DressKX a few weeks ago.
    I had previously bought a Strapcode J style bracelet for my SKX007 and have been very happy with it so when a 20% off code arrived in my inbox from Strapcode, it seemed like a no brainier to upgrade the stock Seiko bracelet on my SRPE55.
    The Strapcode is fantastic, I can live with the chunky clasp as it feels a bit more appropriate for an O style bracelet but as you mentioned in your review, there isn’t much taper to the bracelet for the SRPE. From memory the Strapcode SKX bracelet has around 4mm of taper and I was expecting/hoping for a similar ratio for the SRPE.
    Still a really great bracelet though and considering I got 20% off I’m not complaining but knowing what I know now I would probably have gone with a bracelet from Long Island Watch as I prefer a bit more taper.

  • @hcwm2
    @hcwm2 3 года назад

    I actually like 6 microadjusts on my clasps so that doesn't bother me but that bracelet seems quite unbalanced. I got my "silver shadow" only 2 weeks ago and this video convinced me that a taper down to 16mm is way more appropriate for such a small watch. I will go for the version from longislandwatch once they offer a replacement divers clasp that will fit 16mm bracelets, which Mark is planning to offer at some point. Also I am waiting for other stuff from his store coming back into stock. ;)

    Another excellent video. Thank you. Wow, that is quite a transformation. Possibly too much so. You might consider the Oyster. I have a feeling you will be ordering the Long Island version some time soon. There's only one way to find out. The taper to 16mm is more elegant and you're right that chunky clasp on the Strapcode is a bit too much for this watch and as you pointed out the fit isn't great. That is going to bug you over time. I too like the Jubilee but in this case I think I would opt for the Oyster. Which means my ordering from the US and as I am in Europe I will get shackled with shipping costs, customs duty and a long wait. So maybe not. I would like to see this watch on both options to decide and really it is personal taste ultimately. Knowing you I think you may come up with further options. If so, please let me know if you are thinking of selling your Jubilee! All the best.

    Great video Shane. I feel like Strapcode can improve on almost anything, as their market is targeted to where there's a need. I don't dislike the "DressKX," on an oyster, but I think it's more natural looking on the jubilee. Definitely the right choice, IMHO.

      @@trailblazer2339 it is indeed. Very excited about that one. Not sure when I'm going to get to it. Was kind of an impulse buy. Randomly saw it on eBay for a pretty good price.

    The uncle seiko bracelet is nicer

      Did Uncle Seiko ever make one specifically for the DressKX? I know originally the one they had for the Speedmaster just happened to fit. So people started buying that one.

    Every bracelet needs to tapper to 16 or it's just not worth buying. This needs to be an expectation, not an afterthought.

      @@RelativeTime How are the Uncle Seiko bracelets on your Alpinist? I was excited to buy an Oyster from Strapcode (Miltat) and was very happy with the quality albeit maybe too hefty, but when putting it on my SARB017 the end links were very ill fitting and loose and now I'm afraid of buying from Strapcode again.

      Overall they are pretty good. The end links have a little gap, but not too bad. Although they are folded so that is to be expected a little. In general, I think the quality of the strap code bracelet is better, but not by much. Plus I thought the Beads of Rice bracelet (which has stayed on mine) was better than the president. I remember the quality of the president's clasp not being as good.

      @@RelativeTime Thanks very much for the information! I watched your other video and agree the beads of rice looks beautiful. Too bad for the hollow end links though. I don't have any hollow end link bracelets but may just give in and get that Uncle Seiko. 😅 Thanks for your detailed and wonderful videos. 👍

    Gorgeous shots, and great video as usual. The only experience I have is the unused Miltat Strapcode O-style bracelet that came with the SKX that I got for very decent money at my domestic auction site a couple of years ago. I instantly put it on the SKX and have enjoyed it since. Great quality IMHO.

    My only issue with straps... Sometimes the don't fit my tiny wrists as in missing a hole... 6.1/4 wrist.
    As always great video!!

      I have the same strap on the SRPE51, and it fits my 6.25" wrist just fine, with room to even go smaller.
