I was just 13 years old when the hostage crisis occurred, and at that age, I didn't grasp the full extent of the situation. Now, at the age of 57, I have a much better understanding of the events that transpired. The Shah of Iran, who ruled with an iron fist, was indeed a tyrant to the Iranian people. What's particularly noteworthy is the complex relationship between the United States and Iran during that period. The U.S. tolerated the Shah's oppressive regime as long as it served American interests, especially in terms of securing the flow of oil from Iran.
Ironically, during that same time frame, the U.S. also began supporting Iran's regional adversaries, including Saddam Hussein's Iraq. This shift in policy marked a significant turning point in the geopolitics of the region and set the stage for the tumultuous events that followed.

Yes, Jimmy Carter was a weak President, but still seemed like a basically good and decent man. After he left DC, he became more active with Habitat for Humanity and helping to monitor elections in certain countries. Also, don't think he got too much support from DEM Congressional leadership, such as from Tip O Neill. Think what might have done Carter's presidency in was the failed hostage rescue attempt in April 1980. Very high interest rates, and another Gas supply crunch in '79 as well

What’s crazy is that Sadegh Ghotbzadeh was arrested twice for plotting to kill Ayatollah Khomeini twice. The first time he arrested was in November 8, 1980, but Khomeini intervened and he was arrested. The second time was in April 1982. This time he went to trail and was executed by firing squad in September 1982.

Didn't help that Reagan's VP running mate was CIA and worked with the Iranians to hold the American hostages until after the election, then sold Iran weapons which that money was then fun else to South American contras, and cocaine was flown back to USA on government planes to create the crack epidemic so all the inner cities could be bought back by the pure Christian whites.
Carter was the last human being to hold the office of POTUS. The rest have been charlatans who have sold USA to the highest bidder.

Carter ignited the Iranian revolution. In 2016, a declassified report stated that the Carter administration had extensive contact with Khomeini and his entourage in the prelude to the Iranian Revolution. According to the report, Khomeini "went to great lengths to ensure the Americans would not jeopardize his plans to return to Iran - and even personally wrote to US officials" and assured them not to worry about their interests in Iran, particularly oil. According to the report, in turn, Carter and his administration helped Khomeini and made sure that the Imperial Iranian army would not launch a military coup. Regardless, instead of immediately bombing Iranian oil fields, he allowed the hostages to languish for 444 days. Allowed the hostages to suffer mock trials and mock executions. He gave his authorization for a rescue mission that was destined to fail. Eight Americans were killed in the botched rescue attempt. That’s the dolts legacy.

@@TowGunner I wasn’t aware of the extent of the Carter admins communications with the Khomeini forces pre-revolution, wrong-headed and naive at best, another big mistake Carter made was going to the State Dept in December 1979 and basically ruling out military action publicly to obtain the release of the hostages; Ted Kopoel said this gave all the leverage to the Iranians; IMHO we should’ve given the Iranians an ultimatum at the beginning of the crisis; seizing the embassy was an act of war

Today, we complain when our internet slows down, the drivethrough line is long or we have to join our fellow countrymen in any way. This was the 70s and 80s too, not WWII. Get ready, it will happen again. But todays Americans are spoiled and spending time on Tik Tok instead of learning new skills and becoming stronger. End rant.
