The great commentators learn their craft over many years. Hugh Bladen. Winston McCarthy. Bill McLaren. You only want to listen to the best - but there are plenty of one-eyed partisans and average students of the game out there. I would change your "incredible" to "reassuring"... he started in local radio sports when rugby was still amateur. Unfortunately, the emphasis on "fame" and "celebrity" that comes with "professional" puts repetition of this kind of career in doubt.
@@andrewwebb1578 Well said. there is such a dearth of good commentators these days. They cant even enunciate the words properly. To your list I would add Nigel Starmer Smith who we Scots thought a bit of a bit of a joke in the 80s but who actually got better and better as the years passed despite enduring personal tragedy. Do not get me started on modern day commentators.. Sean Maloney being the most dire offender.
His first try is forward. About 1m forward, but that’s how it goes for so many years. Stop the video @1.50 then tap and stop the video watching the release point of the ball. And where Wilson collects it. AB’s got away with some ridiculous forward passes over decades, but no one complains do they………
Sort of. Kirwan wasn’t on the tour, but reclaimed his spot the following year. It was 1994 where the selectors eventually replaced Kirwan for Wilson on a permanent basis.
incredible to see how many years grant nisbett has been commentating. One of the legends of the sport
He was even in the 1987 RWC.

Hes the voice of Rugby.
He's the Ray Warren of rugby union
Been looking for this game everywhere, thanks.
Amazing skill set.
Seems to be a lot of Otago players in that All Black Team.
Golden debut
Glad to see a Springbok picking up some part-time work as a referee. Those were lean times in South Africa.

Christ! Long sleeves! Nice in dry winter months. Weighed a bloody tonne once wet
