I have a 1995 318i that has not been started in two years. So last week after checking the oil we tried to start it and it wouldn’t crank. So we checked the fuel pump and it wouldn’t pump gas. So I put in a new one and tried to start it and it started but it ran rough and wouldn’t idle very well at all. In your estimation where should I start looking to solve this problem. It was parked because it wouldn’t start and it has taken me two years to get around to working on it. I sound like I’m repeating myself. I’m just a weekend car buff but I don’t mind getting dirty trying to fix my cars. I also have three Volvo XC90S I tinker with. They seem easier to work on but I think that’s because they are much larger.
Hey I’m having a problem I forgot what order the coil packs go in.and I can really see from this video exactly but does it go 4321 as the numbers on the wires?
It will tell you in the Haynes workshop manual,or ask at a BMW dealership. The M44 engine as featured in the vid has an aluminium head so won't take to being overtightened too kindly! Buy a decent torque wrench, one that'll start at a low torque (10 Ibf ft) as spark plug torques are relatively low.
Hey, i have a 1992 318is e36 m42 and whenever i cold start the car theres a loud pop while cranking then it runs like normal. could this be the cause of bad spark plugs?
The only idea I have is a misfire, but that would typically through a check light. I would change the plugs if they haven't been changed in a while, cheap & easy possibility.
E36 Fanatics I got a 1997 318i what do you recommend? Also would be cool if you do a smoke test in the future is great for diagnosing air leaks is what I'm thinking bout doing right now
CoolinKofi I personally really like acdelco or ngk, if your looking for longevity go with the higher platinum or double platinum that's a good idea I'll have to do one of those soon!
Bro by the way thanks for all your help I have a Bmw Tech Instructor 👨🏫 he actually owned one of these 318i as well he been working on mine and he did compression test one of my cylinder was out putting a high reading I'm thinking changing the coil pack single block unit what U think
Show me how to do the valve cover gasket replacement video
U can use ur coil to get the plug out if u don't have a proper socket

Don't forget to tighten spark plugs to the correct torque.....................!
What would that be? And how should I accomplish that? An electric wrench?

Any check lights? Usually a car won't run well in general if you have bad spark plugs. Not just at start.
E36 Fanatics Nope, no check lights at all. Any idea on what he problem could be?
It sounds like it's coming from the engine? No other symptoms I assume?
E36 Fanatics yeah it’s definitely from the engine.

do you have to gap the spark plugs or they are pregapped .
CoolinKofi just get the pre gapped, depends on the spark plug you get

Bimmer, not Beamer. The latter is a bike.
People use bimmer as slang for beamer all the time, in-fact ive never once even seen it used to refer to a bmw bike..
How do you say Aluminum?
