Yes, he hollows, but throughout the game, despite his pessimism, his nihilism, and his doubts, he still wanted to live, and still retained the skills to prove it. He was a man driven by fear and despair, but if backed into a corner, he was willing to fight to the death. And I suppose, that sort of drive trumps the curse of hollowing. But that depends on your choice to abandon him, or be with him. Laurentius is a similar story. Yes he can hollow, but like the crestfallen warrior, it depends on your choice. Only in this instance, Laurentius found a friend in you, someone who he could share pyromancy with, someone who he could care about. And that kind of friendship is what continues to give him purpose to defeat the hollowing curse. For as long as you keep him away from his ambition, he will never hollow. Similar thing for Solaire too. He is your friend, and an ambitious one too. And ultimately, your choices can decide whether he succumbs to hollowing/madness, should you abandon him to his short-sighted whims, or protect him from ambition, as you can with Laurentius and Crestfallen.
