This truly was a game changer for me a few yrs back. It's so important. I think a lot of guitarists who are self-taught also make the mistake of relying on their 1st and 2nd finger much more than their 3rd and 4th. To the point of even using the wrong finger in some scales or licks simply because one finger is stronger or weaker. The exercise you show here is very difficult if there is a big imbalance of strength between your fingers. I couldnt do it, i just didnt have the strength and control with my pinky. Focus on exercises that strengthen your 3rd and pinky finger, as well as the one shown here. It solved my problems for sure. If your pinky finger is a lot weaker, you don't have the same control, speed, accuracy, etc. This was my experience anyways.
you are the reason why I got a little bit of improvement. I am one of those intermediate player you mentioned that has been stuck not only for years but for decade. thank you so much again for this nice exercise idea.
Yes, yes, yes. I have seen this before and it is was called “the spider” in that tutorial. I absolutely agree with you that it will improve the strength, agility and speed of all your fingers! I reprogrammed my fretting hand with this method. After practicing this for like 3x5 min/day for like 2 weeks i was able to shred more effortless. And even better was, that some weird chordshapes became much, much easier to do for me. Thanks Lukas 🙏
Wow! Thanks for pointing this out thanks for the tip and view exercise. I'll give this a try Experiment explore improvise to your heart's content. God bless
Try putting the body of the guitar between your legs and tilt the neck up. Like the classical guitarists do. I was taught young to keep my thumb at the center of the back of the neck, tilting the neck up felt natural. Hope that helps
I have been doing this exercise for a few weeks now and I am seeing some progress. However, this is aimed at lead playing and shredding which isn't my ultimate goal. Of course I do want to be able to shred one day, but I am more interested in playing rhythm, more specifically modern Prog/Djent kinda riffs which include complex and stretchy chords, lighting fast fret position changes, say moving from 1st to 10th fret or higher in an instant, while also getting my fingers ready for the chord and doing it accurately, then quickly playing a short arpeggio or melody. What are the fundamentals of such kind of playing? I have watched many tutorials that focus on how to write those kinds of riffs, but I haven't found anyone who teaches the fundamental techniques required to play it.

“Questionable technique…”😂
Cool mustache !!
Not sure why but my hand really hurts when I try to position it that way
And not only my fingers aren't relaxed but my entire forearm hurts as well
