Great video. I'm following this path w/our '76 PB. Paid $3500, put $20k and a year of labor into the mechs and now chipping away at the interior. My $5/month Ranch Hand contribution is the highest value spent thus far and has saved tons of time and $$ calling Jim first.

It's amazing what someone can accomplish when they can do things like this on their own.
The price you paid for this RV is insanely good. WOW.
Spending $20K to fix-er-up and a great investment. You can't buy anything new for that price and quite frankly, the "new' RVs that are out these days, I find horrible!
They are so dark due to the lack of big windows and they feel cramped, because the manufacturers try to put too much crap in them, sacrificing space.
A few weeks ago we went to look at some new RVs. Let's just say that we were NOT impressed at all.
In EVERY CASE, the beds were all designed where you had to crawl from the foot of them to get into them. That is ridiculous especially for the more "mature" folks among us. LOL
I really like these GMC motor homes and now kick myself for not buying one then.
They weren't that expensive back then.
Oh well... we live.... we learn... sigh.
      LOL
      😅😂🤣

One of these is going to be my early stage retirement project. I’m in IT, but who knew I would go into the trades in my retirement. To do one of these you need to be an electrician, a plumber, an auto mechanic, and if the interior is trash, a carpenter.

I don't know how old you are, but I can say that a lot of us I.T. guys have in fact learned all those fields during out lifetimes. There's so many cool upgrades that can be done on these things, especially with the dash board. I've seen some really cool digital instrument upgrades that really make these things "brand new."

Lots of Great advice here. Thanks. I'm doing a "wrap" job with bed platform over the winter. I'm using the coach as it is for now. Its dated but work just fine.

Living in, and learning from my 78 Eleganza II... Upgrading things in the suspension and brakes, and making the inside liveable- though 90% of the time there is a pile of tools and parts clogging the dinette and couch... But it is going to be the way I want it soon...

I grew up near GMC truck and bus plant in Pontiac Mi. My dad work in the plant where these was built. I've always loved the looks of these. I wished I had the money to refurbish 2 of these.. I've got some great ideas but dont know if they would work.

Take Jim’s advice. Get a coach. Use it…and update as you have time and money…get yourself a coach…I am sure you will like that you did.

I have a 77 coachman birchaven, and the cabinet quality was excellent, no need to change it, it was not particle board. Put thin plastic panels on the ceiling, new vinyl floor. I talked to the guys at cinnabar before I bought, the said a 77 was the best year, and I believe they are correct.

Good advice; sounds like you have to be part mechanic, part carpenter, and part electriction in order to just maintain one of these, and part deep money pockets to do a full restoration.

I have always love these models of GM motorhomes. But I am looking for something that runs I can live in. Not park and work 9n it constantly work on it. While I can do all the work required. Wanted to start my business back up. I worked on machine tools for 38 years.
