Great little video. I love my Field Notes and how dog-eared they get with time. I usually keep some post-it notes in the back and you can also make a little pocket in the back to store emergency cash etc. You can also get sticky tabs for book marking if you dont want string or a ribbon or need multiple page markers for reference. Don’t forget if you leave the first page or two blank, you can add page numbers to all the other pages and then create a contents page in the front. Customising things is so fun and like you say, creates more of a bond with the book as you’ve put some of your personality into it. Keep the great videos coming!
Thanks so much! I have actually done the contents page in my older notebooks (I need to do that again) and I love the idea of sticky notes in the back. Thanks for the tips!!
I saw that short with the bookmark mod but a string does not seem substantial enough for my liking. I use a paperclip to mark my spot. I'm not sure where I got it but I have a gold colored paperclip in the shape of a fountain pen nib that works perfectly.
@crippiekaraoke6335 I've seen those and they are quite nice. Mine is nowhere near that fancy. It is literally just some gold colored wire bent in the shape of a nib.
That's pretty awesome!!! I've used paperclips in the past as well when I want to mark multiple different places in a notebook. That sounds like a really sick paperclip😎
How do you keep track of what is in each notebook? If you write down thoughts and ideas, I imagine you want to reference them from time to time? Like, "I had a great idea about x one time" and you want to go back and read it, how do you find it?
So usually I've been using the first page for a "table of contents" so if I go back through I only have to look at the first page to know what's generally in each book. Also, I pretty much just go through each book and flip til I find what I'm looking for🤣
I agree! Notebooks are personal tools, so they should be personalized. I have started making 3.5x5.5 notebooks with Rhodia grid paper and cover cardboard with 220-300 gsm. I have not included page dividers, but the pocket notebooks are anyway easy to find the contents of. But I really like the Field Notes notebooks, so I’ll keep buying from them.
Love all three ideas. A few upgrade suggestions - instead of packing tape, use cloth tape. Much more durable. And for the date labels, get an embossing label maker from a company called Dymo. Again, easier to read and improved durability
I actually hate book marks. I rip them all out. I get the book darts. They work well. I also got me some 3 inch stickers from ‘nice enough stickers’ - makes it mine. Each book gets a sticker. Picking out just the right sticker is a whole ordeal too. Or I even stamped the kraft cover. We just need a clear cover like they make for all the other notebooks/planners. Or to carry it in a cover, or… just write in it quicker so it doesn’t get all torn up. 😂
I've heard lots of good things about those book darts! I may have to give them a try. I'm in the process of stamping my notebooks as well... Definitely something to stay tuned for
As a long-time user of Field Notes, I'm not sure the tape will help. Most of the time I get the staples pulling through the cover at the fold (meaning the center page block is trying to detach by pulling away from the card stock cover). This may just be my pocket wear pattern, but would likely not be helped much by tape. I've opted for trying a variety of leather covers which change the wear pattern and reduce stress at the staples. YMMV.
I see where you're coming from! I carry mine in a pouch so the wear and tear isn't as severe. I do enjoy having it for both strength and support of the bookmark, so it isn't loose all over the place. I'm sure over time, my ritual of setting one of these up will evolve. Either way, thanks a ton for tuning in!🙏
what do you use your note books for? what is the purpose I love the idea I just cant see how I would need one in my everyday as If I would have one and never actually use it
Short answer: I use them for everything! I make these videos every week, so a big part is video ideas, scripts, outlines, etc. Another big one for me is journaling and using it as a tool for mindfulness. I also draw, make lists, and so much more! It's hard to say it all at once because it can be for everything, but I hope this helps!
@@GareTheBear I went to walmart and bought the pen and gear 160 compositions then went to the dollar tree only to find the same size and style but with 50 pages instead of 160 so I bought them for easier pocket storage now I have like 6 notebooks wish me luck lol
I keep them so that I always have a record of what I have written down. Whether it's ideas or just simple journal entries, having that to go back to is very satisfying to me. It's sort of like a photo album, but written word. Lots of other reasons, but you've inspired me to look into maybe making a video about it 🤣

If they're what I'm thinking of, they're called book darts. I bought some on Amazon a while back & love them!

Brilliant. Love where you are going with these videos.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed🙏

Love this! Customizing them is the greatest feeling because I become that much closer to the notebook👌
For your next video you should review the Carpe Diem A6 passport and notebook holder, because it's my go to for mini notebooking
I'll have to write that one down! There's lots of different ones I've been recommended. Thanks for the suggestion!
It's really cool seeing these rituals of yours
Thanks!! I'm glad you enjoy them. I always love showcasing these little rituals of mine
@@GareTheBearI use hardcovers primarily for their durability and ease of use for me, but I really dig seeing how people use softcovers

Cloth tape! I need to see where I can find that stuff. Thanks for the suggestions!!

Great video as always! 👍
Thank you!! Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Great video my friend. Really enjoyed watching this again. Hope you are having a great Sunday 👍
Thanks so much, Steve! I hope you're enjoying your Sunday as well!
@GareTheBear I am thanks. Just gone midnight here and ready for a sleep 👍
@SteveW-w9e very nice! Goodnight!
Another excellent video brother!
I appreciate that, man!!! Thanks as always for tuning in🫡

Field Notes are thin, dog ear the page of you must. When I use them they magically open to the last page I wrote on. 😉
Good idea! I just don't like folding the pages🤣🤣

Hey hey there you go! Best of luck to you!!🫡
You are a spirited man.
The Spirited Man knows he is a spirited man🙏
Thank you!!!🫡
What is the point of keeping all the notebooks that you’ve filled up?
Depending what he uses them for, he may want to return to them for further research or recalling old ideas to bring to reality.
Have you tried the book darts the little metal bookmark thingys

This! There have been plenty of instances where I write an idea down, then months later I come back to it and make it into a video
I haven't, but I hear they're great!
I wonder how many times you say the word notebook in this video
Transcript search says 15 (assuming of course the transcript is correct).
Not a clue🤣
That's honestly fewer than I expected🤣
Nice
Thank you😎
Field notes are garbage
All a matter of opinion! I've heard everything from they're garbage to they're the best thing in the world🤣
