In 1987 i ran the chinle invitational. That hill was tough. I was a rez runner for valley high school in sanders i did pretty well 👍 somewhere down in the Valley in Phoenix someone has a video of me running the 1 mile state championship race where I came in 5th but i ran my fatest time of 4:48 in track & field. I attended CAC but they never approached me for scholarship. Running in higher elevation than PHX helped because down in the valley which is lower elevation we Navajos could run faster. We always experienced some sort of racism down in the valley but that didn't bother us.
This documentary should have been about Chinle, Tuba City, Ganado, Monument Valley, Page, Winslow and Holbrook....the 3A north rez runners. Its not just chinle and tuba city teams.
I can't believe I saw my brother Dennis you look so handsome when he was younger until now. I always look up to my brother cuz he's my role model. One day I want to follow follow his trails what he's doing. I love how the documentary came out and there's so many ways I want to achieve my goal like what my brother did. I'm not going to give up I'm going to give it a try. In this video made me so emotional that I cry but have so many trails to run off to.
I just watched this documentary. Very interesting. I would like to get an update on how all the runners are doing? Finishing college & getting a career going, etc. Just curious as to how they’ve all faired.
Billy had said that he "wasn't even Native, but 'Puerto Rican'". Ryan is half D'Ne (Navajo) and "Puerto Rican". A correction is needed here. When the great jackass, Christopher Columbus, arrived to wreak terror in 1492, it was the FIRST TRIBE called "Indians" by the illustrious moron of the seas. This was the TAINO BAND OF ARAWAKS. Hence, to my nephews in spirit I say: Billy, you ARE Native! To Ryan, your other half of your being IS Native. I, myself, am N'De AND Taino NDN. Aoo!I LOVED this documentary, which I watched this morning on PBS. It shaped the rest of my day into a really great one.
Taina Amayi that's like saying I'm fully black ethnic wise despite I'm only 3% on a DNA test. most boricuas aren't even close to 25% indigenous so to say that he is Puerto Rican is correct since the whole commonwealth is mixed thus unique in its own way.

Awesome 👏 really good documentary. My son is Ojibway and loves to run and is good at it. He did 5k in 24mins. At 9 years old.

Thanks for posting! I've been wanting to see this since it came out.

***** Yes. Boriquen was made unique by genocide. I suppose I can agree with you on that
Juan Cena wow we got geneticist on the comment section (sarcasm), ok boricuas are 99.99999% white (theyre not) happy now, "white boy"?
Anyone know where they r now?
Ryan & Billy look more like North Shore surfers than runners from AZ... awesome athletes either way
Umm puertorican is not an ethnic group, and native americans DID lived in the caribbean so he may actually be part native
