In Australia conditions faced in LA - prolonged drought and extremely low humidity hurricane force winds - are given a CATASTROPHIC fire rating and are considered virtually unstoppable even if you had a massive number of fire fighters and unlimited high pressure water supply. Fire and Rescue in Australia has a simple message in catastrophic conditions it's "get out now or face death".
FYI: I just found out that my auto insurance went up by $42 a month. Californians are absorbing all of the cost of these tragic fires! Something needs to change as soon as possible!
Rick, I voted for you and this has changed my mind. This has never happened, same firefighters, same buildings, same responses. Your presence in office would not change a thing with the weather. Why not criticize hurricane affected areas? Why not look at repeat flooding and point a finger? What a sad way to pander to those who don’t have the context of what happened and how fire moves.
So, you're trying to say this was ALL due to "climate change". Ok, if that's true wouldn't you at the very least make sure there is water in the fire hydrants? Furthermore, California has had fires my entire 64 years of living here, that's simply part of the topography of the land, but you know what they used to do is clean the vegetation along the hillsides and run firebreaks and controlled burns, which all ceased many years ago. How's that for a little "context" for you.
We still use and maintain firebreaks. We also clean and maintain a clear brush line away from houses to give a second fire break, there are strict codes on maintaining your property free from leaf litter and dead brush etc…. Controlled burns would be a great idea if it didn’t burn all the living vegetation as well and established trees which are part of erosion control. I’m glad you brought up climate change as it played a big part, I think the biggest factor in the one off tragedy is the grounded air support. The winds were so bad, no planes or helicopters could fly. I’m not sure you understand how hydrants work, it’s like your sink or bath tub, it’s a constant flow of water until the source is depleted. No one goes around filling hydrants. The fact that they ran out of water truly shows the extent of the issue and the amount of effort put forth. When a large area of the hillside burns it leaves many embers, these embers were carried by the winds and started many many spot fires next to and on houses, igniting them which created a second and third place for embers to originate and spread the fire. Most fires start near houses or in reach of ground crews, this had burned a couple hundred acres with no intervention due to wind and steep terrain, creating a very large source for embers to originate from. You didn’t provide any context just your opinion. I also don’t think you live near any major cities and don’t really understand how big the uninhabited places in Los Angeles are.
I recommend watching the prior wildfire incident training films available on RUclips. They are essentially investigative summaries of different wildfires that have occurred in the past in different areas around the country, many center around entrapments and some have firefighter fatalitys associated with them. I recommend the WFSTAR incident report for the Yarnell Hill Fire and the hour long training video some of the survivors of the Storm King Mountain/South Canyon Fire put together with interviews from many of the firefighters that were there to start. Most are short,20 minutes average, but you can learn a great deal from watching them as well as understanding the dangers wildland firefighters face on the job. Interesting, you want an answer from someone that's not actually in charge. I'm curious if you're this critical of those that actually are? Oh, that's okay, I already know the answer.
Hindsight is always 20/20. It doesn't serve any constructive purpose to be talking about what was preventable in the wake of catastrophic events like everything we've seen from hurricanes, tornadoes and wildfires. My only criticism of this story is, why wasn't there adequate water pressure at these fire hydrant locations that rendered the firefighters helpless. To be pointing fingers in the political arena when thousands of people are now homeless and in need of support to rebuild their lives is despicable and being done for selfish reasons.
Can we please get a recall election issued to remove Bass and put Caruso in instead? This makes me wish he was the mayor instead of her. Please sir!! Run for Mayor or for governor please! 🙏🙏
So, Los Angeles do you think you may have voted for the wrong candidate now? Also, all these past mayors that he mentioned would not have been in Ghana for whatever stupid reason Bass was there.
If you want to help, Mr. Caruso, then offer constructive suggestions BEFORE they're needed. If you just want to embark on a partisan, fearmongering rant then do so in private.
Who gives a damn what Caruso thinks about the fires? Only because he is a billionaire who has $100,000,000 yacht that could be sold to fix the fire trucks or feed the homeless 53 times over. I am tired of rich people getting a say. So out of touch with the communities.
So you didn’t listen long enough to the interview when he spoke of his $5M gift that started a fundraiser of more than $20M LAFD Fund to repair or replace equipment.
Yeah, no kidding. I’d also love to hear Rick’s plan for fighting a raging fire in a drought-ridden area while 50-100 mph gusts are constantly blowing. Republicans know how to stop those better than Democrats, right?
I've got an idea Rick. Spend the next couple of months volunteering to help people made homeless by this fire. Then this summer start putting out your own long term plan for improved fire (& earthquake) preparedness and demand an investigation into the response in early January. You needed to be prompted twice before you congratulated Los Angeles citizens volunteer efforts? Not good. You should have lead off the interview praising these volunteers and announcing some kind of cash or logistical support. Lead a lobbying program for federal relief, you can probably get the Big Orange Wet Boy to pose for a picture with you. Karen Bass needs to stand for re-election in 2026. You've got time, you just sound like a political yapper right now.
WOW! The best and most honest response seen thus far! Felt like alone until truth be told, in maintaining unity instead of divisive rhetoric! This is never a time to engage in politics! Thank you! 🇺🇸🙏🏽✌🏽💙♥️
Hindsight and sideline criticism is best left to campfires and dive bars. He had the influence in his community to rally $20MM+ to fight the fire early with a private fire department. Imagine 40+ water trucks spraying houses to mitigate ember ignition. Come back around to rally the rebuild. Regarding Bass, she's out of her league and not a leader I'd follow. 100,000+ tax paying Angelinos voters are waiting for recovery help. Bass has focused on the homeless issue. The state distributed three rounds of Homekey funds in 2021, 2022, and 2023-24. L.A. County received a total of $550 million and used the funds to help purchase 32 buildings. At least 1,538 the total 2,157 Homekey rooms are vacant. This number accounts for more than 71% of all Homekey rooms.
Everything he talks about takes money… Just keep on raising the property taxes… Oh wait, we have proposition 13 which limits tax increases So is he in favor of repealing it?
He lost the last election so now this is his opportunity to try to make himself look better as if he would have done something better. I don’t know why natural disasters are different in Los Angeles, compared to the rest of the country.
He lost the election because corrupt progressive liberal that hijacked our Democrat party stopped voter ID so they and their puppet master radical foreign billionaire George Soros creator of antifa and blm could destroy California financially

@jordanrayo2425 We have the First Responders. It's their jobs to battle the fires they are the trained professionals. Nobody can predict a wildfire or the consequences with abnormal 100 mph winds. People who turn a disaster into politics are shallow and have zero empathy for the victims.

Los Angeles resident should of known not to vote for Bass due to DEI as incompetency can't save a city during disaster. When voting for a leader of a city or state, they should vote based upon experience. Rick Caruso would of been a more qualified candidate for LA Mayor who can save Los Angeles. He understands the infrastructure and disaster relief which is very crucial. Truly devastating that voters are so "clouded" when it comes to voting. Voting is the people's power to choose who is best for the city/state. Now California has too many incompetent leader that needs to be RECALLED to save California like Bass, Crowley and Newscum. All these individuals are all about their own career ladder an about the people. When Newscum and Bass expressed their concerns for the people of Los Angeles, it's all talk rather than compassion for the loss of people's homes.Their priority is their political career path. Is he bored and still wants to play mayor ? LA already rejected him and his family’s dirty money. Why didn’t he give some of the $ to the people so they can rebuild.
Please run again!!!!
Can we please get a recall election issued to remove Bass and put Caruso in instead? This makes me wish he was the mayor instead of her. Please sir!! Run for Mayor or for governor please! 🙏🙏
4:40 so his solution is privatizing LAFD?
❤❤❤❤R Caruso❤❤❤
So, Los Angeles do you think you may have voted for the wrong candidate now? Also, all these past mayors that he mentioned would not have been in Ghana for whatever stupid reason Bass was there.
they got plenty of money for interpreters
I like Rick Caruso...Smart to get his own water trucks...he knew the Failures coming.
People should start building fast otherwise the wolf of realtors will come and grab the land. That was the plan.
Here we go .... billionaires telling the lower class what to do. Maybe i should hire my own private firefighters with my minimum wage.
Yeah, no kidding. I’d also love to hear Rick’s plan for fighting a raging fire in a drought-ridden area while 50-100 mph gusts are constantly blowing. Republicans know how to stop those better than Democrats, right?
Rick should be the Mayor or Governor.
Good comment. Don’t agree about Bass but let’s see how she does.
Dude could sell his $100,000,000 yacht and donate the money to feed the homeless population 53 times over.
WOW! The best and most honest response seen thus far! Felt like alone until truth be told, in maintaining unity instead of divisive rhetoric! This is never a time to engage in politics! Thank you! 🇺🇸🙏🏽✌🏽💙♥️
Armchair critic...
Mayor Bass was conveniently out of town when LA caught fire.
Everything he talks about takes money…
Just keep on raising the property taxes…
Oh wait, we have proposition 13 which limits tax increases
So is he in favor of repealing it?
He lost the last election so now this is his opportunity to try to make himself look better as if he would have done something better. I don’t know why natural disasters are different in Los Angeles, compared to the rest of the country.
He lost the election because corrupt progressive liberal that hijacked our Democrat party stopped voter ID so they and their puppet master radical foreign billionaire George Soros creator of antifa and blm could destroy California financially
Get rid of NEWSOM!! Get rid of red tape!! This disaster was a manufactured one!!
Another multi millionaire THRUST into the spotlight. Yeah right.
What have you contributed to city of LA? He brought an icon spot to LA - the Grove. For at least the last 15 years with tourism and lots of retail and restaurant jobs. He opened at least 2 more Plaza in LA. Same results. So many jobs!! What have YOU contributed?!
@malovina The people that work at those places bus or drive one to two hours each way to work because they can't afford to live there. Where's the affordable housing? Oh, I forgot, developers lined their pockets with expensive housing. Do you think the people who work in that area, live in that area? Not even the small business owners can afford to live there.
F Caruso
Easy to criticize from your mansion. He's not one of us!!
Gavin Newsome is no different where was the mayor when the fire happened 😂
@jordanrayo2425 We have the First Responders. It's their jobs to battle the fires they are the trained professionals. Nobody can predict a wildfire or the consequences with abnormal 100 mph winds.
People who turn a disaster into politics are shallow and have zero empathy for the victims.
Disgusting. Why is KTLA interviewing him as if he’s some expert? Using a disaster to run an ad for his political future. He can’t accept that he couldn’t buy LA votes.
Caruso??? Laughable.
Remember when Barack Obama leaned in and endorsed Karen Bass for mayor?
Clear discrimination just because of my condition. Supreme Court Justice Billion Dollar settlement.
Dude You Can Criticize All You Want - You Ain’t Getting the job
Then you do it. Ooops I forgot, you cant.
How bout you help? Oh right can't! Caruso 2026!
Where were you when trump was there you could have helped
George Lopez how about some aid to the Jardinero’s that can’t work
Santa Monica girl here.....I’ve been saying for years now, get the democrats out NOW!!!! They have ruined California!
If he was Mayor, the same thing would've happened. Who the Mayer of Tampa is doesn't affect how strong the hurricane is. We don't get to control mother nature, we only get to deal with the aftermath.
This is just base political opportunism at the expense of the victims.
Hurricanes aren’t same as wildfires
Next he'll be saying wet things don't burn
He TOLD you 🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼, but yay DEI ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
What is DEI? I bet you don't even know.
Ew
The only way to fix the problem is to RECALL Newscum and Bass out of office so they CANNOT destroyed California!!!
Leave karen alone! Yall should be thankingher
Do you realize she went to Ghana when all this was happening?!? She should of been here helping when the fires were starting!!! Not being in another country when the city and people needed her the most. She deserves every inch of criticism and berating thrown at her. Why should we be thanking her for? She's useless and only making LA worse with her lack of leadership. Caruso should of been the one to be the mayor!
Caruso only lost cause he was italian lol 🍕🍅🌶🫑🥘
He wouldn't have done any better.
Gavin Newson needs to step down along with Bass.
The difference between Rick Caruso and Bass is that Caruso is the qualified person for the job, and the joke of DEI hire Bass should have never been elected or placed in the position of mayor NEVER!
Hey Rick it takes more than money to fix L. A. How about some leadership?
Fire Bass
Gavin must go!!!
Help is on the way. A real President is on the way after only a week in office, a very busy week. Watched brief presser on tarmac in North Carolina and saw a real President not a statue reading off a teleprompter. Love to see an honest media accentuate the positives shared by those who asked for this on November 5th.
Well at least you don’t have to take money from your dwindling tax base to actually spend on forest management. Saved money through carbon emissions 😂😂
