Love the video. I feel like I got transported to the 80s learning about pecan trees from the Ag teacher

Great video on pecan tree planting. Further study on this process is to be sure and plant a bare root tree in the winter/dormant months to help roots establish before the soil warms. Thanks for your video, it was very informative.

I like to put a thick compost layer on top spaced off the trunk and a layer of leaves on top of that as well.

very thorough video. My only question is, since i'm in Florida, should there be some additive to the hole like manure, peat, and/or premium topsoil?

for the past 4 years. My pecans are dropping early. Some may be the size of a marble. Or they rot and drop. I use to get 50 pounds or more off these trees and now the trees do not post nuts to eat. they are terrible. What do I need to do?

    Will a 40’ spacing(about 20trees/acres)still produce a decent yield in the long run ?
Could you give an estimation/guess of how many % of decreasing yield this will be compare to 8trees/acre ?
    Thanks in advance

    Two questions here:
Last year's drought killed all of my pecan trees. One was over a year old, and the three I had planted that spring. I replanted last weekend. They were watered every weekend but still perished. You mention latex paint to control temperature fluctuations. Could this have helped, increasing the survival rate caused from the drought?
Next I notice the bear root trees were not completely level. In fact, one was leaning. I take a level and make sure my new trees are straight. I take it it is not necessary to do this?
Thanks in advance. I use this video as a guide watched it almost a dozen times trying to establish my orchard.

Hi! I just identified some leaves from plants that appeared out of nowhere in my front yard - four of them and they are growing very quickly - identified on a plant identifier app as pecan trees. Is this possible? I am in Northern California. The leaf, with its pointed tip and serrated edges, looks exactly like the leaf of the pecan tree in photos. I have no idea why these trees would be going growing here except that I did feed pecans to wild turkeys for a while a few years back. Any ideas? Thanks

How long before such a tree bears fruit?

    • @facepalmdaily4404
      @facepalmdaily4404 4 года назад

with tree's the size he planted, I'd guess 3-4 seasons, at least. Depends on the species of pecan, of course. If you plant a 7-8 foot tree there's a chance you'll get a small harvest the end of the first season. Again, depending on species and climate.

Hi there, I am from northwest pakistan with temperature reaches 38 in the summer and 0 in the winter.
I have 3 pecan trees 7 years old and it increases their produce every year. My query is why my pecan nuts hard to break, normally you can break it with your fingers but mine needs stone to break the shell though not that hard but also not that soft to crack with fingers

@03:30 I'm already disagreeing about how to treat pecan groves. Uniformity is for the artless.
Picture these groves and think of the Stradivarius. So there's storm damage..

Great video. A little unclear on the water dam you create once the tree is planted verses kicking a portion of the dam down if there is too much water?

I found on my poor experience lol that watering it 1wk when they're still smaller than 3 ft is good enough. But not soak the ground (since I put black plastic around it about 3ft diameter from the middle, which keeps the soil moist longer and grass away compared to opened top around tree). But for bigger trees already giving fruit (5yrs+ old) just 1 per month or the root will be ruined.

I planted 8 assorted pecan trees that were good for my area zone 8a. They were approximately 7 to 8 ft tall. I don't remember which types. Had them really growing well until I got cattle, not knowing the cows would eat the trees and bend them over trying to scratch their bellies until the trees broke. The cattle killed them all. 👎 Now, I have areas blocked off for my orchards, but, haven't planted pecans again. Just fruit trees.

    • @frankdavidson9675

graft a limb of the big pecan to the medium tree it will bear big pecans you can cut a medium tree at about waist high so they want be any more med ium pecans it will take a while for this graft to heal and produce larger pecans
