So it's 5am and I'm helping my brother in law prepare for a flight. I'm scrolling through IG and I find an ad for something called "Tracklib". The ad doesn't tell me exactly what it's about so I search RUclips. First and only video I needed to find was yours. Good ol' MG The Future. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. If you need any thing definitely let me know, and if I can be of service I will. On another note...the idea of doing a project like this, the way you lined it up.. is very fascinating to me. A very, very insightful video. A lot of good info and a few gems in here too. Thank you.
I want to try and release an 8-10 track project every month, and this is a video that I needed to see. I think the universe is coming together for me. Thank you for this bro. I want to take myself to the next level, and I think this video has helped me begin that journey.
YOOOOOOOO!!!!!! This is the first vid of yours Ive ever seen and Im like why has RUclips been hiding you from me? I feel like Ive found the Holy Grail. You just bombed my mind and cracked it wide open!! DOPE ISH Brother!! Subscribed fa sho.
"This is and for the rest of the year be considered a game changing video. You have, if all the following is applied, will help us all in knowledge and possibly financially." I know you may be tired of saying it, but thank you so much my G! Many blessings!!
I came across Young Guru giving you props on Twitter for your insight, this breakdown is fire! I have no business being up at 2:30am in SC watching this, but it's gonna be an all nighter of content...appreciate you being willing to share this info!
Bruh... this is exactly what I needed to hear!! I been asking my homie who doesn't sample records and he could only tell me a quarter of what you just spit... I appreciate this!!
I believe this will soon be the only way to make money online as a producer. Thru streaming! & commercial and video placements. Salute to you for explaining it this way.
MG The Future, I have been listening to "What a Night" on repeat for almost an hour... 😲 🙌 I'll send you a rough of what I write to it as soon as I can.
Big Homie‼️I’m late, just didn’t act a year ago,but once started looking at recently, I remembered your vid. The most thorough breakdown ‼️ I’m gonna use my RUclips e- crates to find in tracklib🤔😉✌🏾💯
Woe!!!! Gratitude... Just in time, I'm gearing up for an Instrumental album this year... note: in addition to distribution, CD baby is good for getting you small Licensing. deals...
So @18:24sec Distrokid allows you to upload a sound you sampled as long as you give them the Publishers name of the sample & you split royalties with that Artist/Publisher you sampled from? If so they made it so easy for sample clearance
Pat Brady I feel like one of these music programs are nuking us...not sure which. Looking like splice if I can confirm more splice users have had a failed hdd...or something else. NSA? Lol...they'd be disappointed and accidentally WOKE looking at my files.
Great info and thanks for identifying all these tools. Building new models is a major priority. Personally I’m skeptical about streams. Self release is critical in making the music available but I am doubtful on that bread adding up. I’m working on a model that associates proper types of merch with releases. Like any other release... Star Wars, 2 chains, that merch is a huge driver of revenue. Indie bands have been up on this for decades. Another aspect is that with merch your dealing with them unfiltered dollars and not splitting a penny. Downside of merch u have to put bread up. By merch I mean shirts, posters, etc. but also more creative merch too, art books, vinyl, signed shit, even a dinner to talk about the album if u do develop a cult following. Being independent things like this willl work as we don’t need to move even 1000 units of each offering to make a legit salary.
Another thing about merch is that it’s free promo when it’s out in the world, and it keeps you relevant as people have actual physical pieces of your project around their house basically lining u up for the next release.
Thanks for the reply. And thank you for watching. I want to expand on streams though: 1. You are right. "A man cannot live by bread alone" - Meaning "just streams" may never be enough. But this model showed in the video is the "prototype". The getting added to "playlists" become 1000+ a month. The rinse and repeat for every project will take MONTHS to execute...But its a reversal of energy. 2. The same people, TYPICALLY, make beats daily...find graphics...upload...spam email...and sometimes do social media chunks of that content. And HOPE to sell a beat for 50$. If using youtube - they will have to do this weekly for 2 years or so (without ads or other attention helpers)...before they see 1000+ a month. And that's amidst MOST of their beats being stolen...jacked...and blending in with the crowd. 3. Remember, you saying "Yeah, my new PROJECT" is on spotify rather than saying "my new beats are on youtube" is a subtle change ...but most people receive THAT better, because no we are not just having this conversation with rappers. Now we can tell this to potential mates (who all have smart phones with one of those music apps), people at work, people we SEE with headphones on, people at the club, people downtown...basically...ANYONE with a phone AND ANYONE with headphones on...you can go "Yo..what you listening to? OH Rap? Thats dope...Tidal? Dope...real quick look me up and follow me". 4. Now you are BUILT into their phone...Where are your WEBSITE requires a browser. Your RUclips, is FLOODED with suggested videos and ads. Your SOUNDCLOUD...may not even be on their phone. Every APPLE users HAS TO HAVE iTunes...like it or not. So you being there is SUPER convenient...and most times they getting Gift cards and never used them...now they have a reason to. Stay Woke. 5. This is all PREPARATION for the inevitable. This might be a 3 year plan...The "only streaming" reality is right around the corner. The SUPER LABELS, consuming services and picking sides has already begun. The price of admission may go up...the price for attention IS going up. If you hesitate to implement this particular moment...you may find yourself like 2007 boonie mayfield...who realized the potential of youtube attention...but missed 1 million dollars in ads (From 2007 to now)...that we may of made if he kept up with it weekly...HECK...monthly. None of this stops EVERYTHING else we should do (Merch). But the wave and logistics of it is full proof...like anything, it only goes as far as we push it. Its easier for me to click an AD to open spotify..then it its for me to see if you have a T shirt in 5xl... And maybe most important...Streams are only asking for a persons time (3:30). Everything else is asking for money.
I agree with all of this and I think it's a good idea. Self release is essential as well as dodging the over saturated RUclips stuff. I think we're basically saying the same thing with our parameters turned a little different. You have to do everything you're saying IMO. I would also say there's a critical missing layer when it comes to generating a livable salary, 70k - 100k without mainstream success as a producer. Not trying to sow doubt, just offering to the model building. It may sound crazy, but as an independent I think selling a physical CD as merch will be more lucrative than streams. Obviously make it known the music is available online but this Digipack/jewel case is more art/collectible than anything. CDs and packaging died because it didn't meet the MAJOR LABELS numbers of needing to move millions. I think there's still a case on an ART level for independent release.
You're right, we don't disagree. Physical tangible goods are PERFECT for super fans. However, not many producers get this romantic advantage. Let alone beat makers. There is a handful, and there merch is actually their "drum kits". Now if you package yourself as an artist (Kanye, Calvin Harris, Diplo) - You may be able to pull the "buy the T shirt with your show ticket" hustle - which indeed, makes THEM a lot of extra income. My Answers are purely beat maker related, half of us go unseen...how do we promote physical products? Half of us are introverts, how do we get show money? Half of us are so busy making beats, how do we ALSO think about creating side-objects? This all hints at "team effort". If that's the case, might as well 9th wonder it up - find a squad...and package yourself as an indie label. So the girls can fall in love with the dude in your group with a six pack, the dudes will marvel at the beats and drum kit, and the artists will respect the PEN of whoever the lyricist is....and as such "you guys" collectively can be effective in that strategy. However, an independent beat maker, without the looks, abs, or stage presence....has no reason at all to offer someone to buy a beat tape AND a t shirt. So i think contextually, you would want to be more than a beat maker with that strategy. The Lo FI guys - go out and perform...so they are artists, the side effect, the don't sell as many beats. They sell shows and streams. And they can sell Stickers for the SP404...merch. ETC. So yeah - contextually, we are both onto something. Just depends on the personalities involved.
Yea I see your points centered around beat makers staying as far behind the scene as possible while still trapping revenue. I also get the skepticism about people paying for merch. My answer is that as a beat maker/producer we need to think from a project wide standpoint: 1. We have to make complete projects/campaigns that actually APPEAL TO PEOPLE. That's base 1. A lot more time has to go into cohesive sound design, arrangement, track list, and overall + MOST IMPORTANTLY story telling even if it's just a beat tape. If the core product is slapped together... then... well nothings moving no matter how many hacks. 2. When you have quality and cohesion at the core of these releases. It's easier to develop merch around it. When I say merch. I'm also saying merch as an extension of the art that the tape should be. Not hey some stuff in the back with my face on it. That's how I get to moving units. You're not selling your self, you're selling art. You're selling a project, something that you hope provides a legitimate value, whether it's intrigue, a vibe, or whatever you can create. So I'm thinking there's a layer Under (how we create art worth being consumed and bought into... Are we lazy in not pushing the medium... The MUSIC NEEDS TO BE WORTH SOMETHING and what's the best approach to improving over a few 3-5 minute loosely coupled beat tracks) and over (Monetizing the art beyond release so that we can create more) the mechanisms presented (and these mechanisms here are absolute key to the process as well). Side note: I keep coming back to the art portion of this because I think we have a choice NOW to be beat makers or artists. It's mostly a mental state but I think we clearly see that there's a ceiling for a beatmaker while there really isn't one for an artist. That's a whole other rant but it ties into the road forward for 2018.
MG I have content out that I've released with my own artist. It's not trap more traditional hip-hop with a twist. But I'd love to get your ears and Eye's on it. If you like it let me know. ruclips.net/video/-RBGdjJNjU0/видео.html
not exactly its a 6 song EP that is story driven so we wrote a screen play and shot videos for it. There are 6 total chapters we've released 3 so far. The music video is at the end of each chapter. Music by myself and my team
Yo MG you're the man bruh. Much respect. I'm late to the party here but do you think this is still lucrative even though it's been awhile since you did this video?
larry shields I suppose, might need some planning to deal with updating splits later. But I would rather not lease..I would just give them the beat and advised them to push it and include my credits on the digital splits. What we end up doing is called "license fees" similar to RUclips tracks...or using images in videos. So yeah...the understanding of the old lease language changes tho.
MG The Future Gotcha so there basically promoting themselves and your beat at the same time without them or you spending a dime. Makes since thanks for replying MG 🙏
Back in the day, i sold so many leases...i only have very few songs. But I had millions of free downloads. Now Imagine - if I'm "OK" with that - but X amount of rappers actually take the download, add me to the credits, or SIMPLY upload it to youtube (where my service is already tracking it)....Then those free downloads turn into stream splits. They can "remove" the video ...but then i know what channel / WHO they are downloading my stuff. If they were dope - i can now reach out. Before..old model..it was almost anonymous.
Yo if you were to release your instrumental album on all streaming sites after you registered it. (I have BMI) if an artist were to rip it and record on it, wouldn’t I be able to get most of the 200%? Thanks and great info.
@@MGTheFuture Quincy Jones is one of the greatest producers of all time and he brought in the best musicians for each song. He was also great at overseeing each album as a whole project.
That online sample resource kinda reminds me of Converse Rubber Tracks, www.mattracks.co/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkYqtzYDN2AIV2bbACh3EDQBsEAAYASAAEgJn9vD_BwE I really have to thank you for this video. It may go down as the most important video I’ve ever watched in terms of charting a music production career. There are so many paths and options and, as a DIY digital creative, it helps to have a template laid out before you. Your humility and expertise are refreshing in equal measure and I intend to repay you with what may be a groundbreaking tip of my owwn! ;-)

Half you listed is selling beats...the other half is streaming. Streaming services either allow cleared samples or dont. You gotta figure which. Tracklib clears samples for those that do.
Nothing, we can all use the same sample. Remember the final product is the song. Track lib exists because 100 producers can use the sample (pay 100 fees) and those original artists get paid regardless of who "makes it".
@MG The Future Hi! Thank you for nice explanation. But, I have a question. Can I sale my own tracks (without samples) for sampling in tracklib.com? If so, then how?
As a producer using this service how does it work when you want to use a sample from tracklib flip it and then sell it off to an Mc or lyricist to use? Would I get the licensing for it first? Will that even work or am I aloud to sell the beat to an artist after I license it? Asking because I work with a lot of artist so I’m not saying I wouldn’t use it for an instrumental ep release but was just curious how it works when working with other people. Thanks in advance
Negotiations. Selling beats from here is like telling the artist or label they have guaranteed clearance. And you can work that into the paper work, so they know any future costs and the source in advance. You may sell a best to an artist who never publishes it...so would you need a license in advance for that? Etc etc. Work it into negotiations. I presented this as a person who would handle everything and actually release my own music, even with artists.
Ok I think I get what your saying, so correct me if I’m wrong, if I get clearance for a sample flip it into a beat then I can work an agreement with said artist who wants to purchase it letting them know this beat has clearance so would I have to work things out through BMI and factor them into the splits? That way we can both make money off said track once it’s distributed through platforms?
Ah ok so I could just sell them the beat and they can go get clearance for it themselves? Sorry for all the questions lol don’t mean to be a pain in the ass. Selling music is tricky when your a sample based producer
The Minds Eye, no you not being a pain in the ass. You just helped me with my question I was gonna ask. This music sampling is new to me. I want to start doing it because of my son and his friends. As a mom I'm willing to make this happen.
Give me an example of what you mean? Composers likely have the greatest chances of making an impact as an artist with these newer platforms and options to propagate their sound.
MG The Future Example...If I record few cords from my korg t3,using original studio one pro registered software, thus creasting a part of the song, I don't need to search or use or pay for any sample, right? If I understand correctly, no? Or if I program a rhythm using adictive drums, I don't need to search any sample of any rhythm, right?
Registering all your works properly as an artist and producer - you'd make money based on your attention / reach from the streaming services. From the Distribution outlets, twitch, youtube - likely need another "thing" to help expose your music and persona.
More Gems. Thanks for the information here bro much appreciated. 🙏🏾 Sorry to hear about your HD. Al is not loss though. You can recover everything. There’s something called disk warrior. It saved me 2 years back when I thought I lost it all. Let me know if you need more information on it. Respect Da Process #KeepBangin!
Appreciate it! I used "Data rescue" pro to get my western digital stuff back. The issue it has with my new drive is that its my biggest drive - and the corruption makes this software think its 700TB, so the scan drive needs to be as big. Not only that - its beeping like a failed hardware issue.
Appreciate that 100x - But yeah its an external Seagate pass port (2TB). i was only using 700GB. This software perceived WAAAY more, not sure why. And as such i can't scan unless the software "thinks" I have 700TB available to rescue said files. I wish it just let you scan anyway - and then let you pick and choose what you want (like it would do if i HAD that space).
"I dont think there's reggae in South America" Bra, are u clueless? Ever heard of Brazil? One of the biggest reggae markets in the world and one of the biggest music consumers and creators in the world.
Obviously not, that’s like asking me if I heard hip hop from Canada. Yeah I’m sure they were rapping In The 80s too...but when I think HipHop I think New York. The reggae legends and producers are from Jamaica... so I expect to see them represented more. That’s what “that” means

So @18:24sec Distrokid allows you to upload a sound you sampled as long as you give them the Publishers name of the sample & you split royalties with that Artist/Publisher you sampled from?
If so they made it so easy for sample clearance
Not quite. Tracklib offers that kind of license and most distros have those fields. You still need clearance to even do that from original publishers
personal question..how often do you sell beats mg ?
Wow I'm learning a lot!
yo MG thanks for this one. I'm about to get on my grind.
nicoleon1209 🙏🙏🙏
Very informative video, thanks for making it. Regarding your failing HDD, I thought the NSA were doing backups of everybody's disks ;-)

MG thank you my G I'm gonna run with this
MrEBRAD777 🙏🏽🔑 tell me how it goes
MG I have content out that I've released with my own artist. It's not trap more traditional hip-hop with a twist. But I'd love to get your ears and Eye's on it. If you like it let me know.

MrEBRAD777 desires? Sorta like money and violence?
not exactly its a 6 song EP that is story driven so we wrote a screen play and shot videos for it. There are 6 total chapters we've released 3 so far. The music video is at the end of each chapter. Music by myself and my team
I seen the first one...this is ILL broski.
These are gems for artists too thank you sir #Reasongang
That's where I'm picking them up from 🙏🏽 once you see it...you can't unsee it. Had to tell my people 💯
Yo MG you're the man bruh. Much respect. I'm late to the party here but do you think this is still lucrative even though it's been awhile since you did this video?
No ones really doing it at the max yet ...so def
All that information for free that's crazy 🔥🙏🏿
Pierre Manengo 👽👽👽
MG The Future Aye man you should also make a video on Ryan Leslie's Super Phone if you haven't already 🙏🏿blessings
Pierre Manengo I only have a abstract understanding of it...but I'll touch on it later this week
Really good video! Great info and pratical advice. I only sell beats online, should start looking for more revenue streams aswell. gj
Whodunit thanks 💯🙏
Amazing info
Thanks for checking it out!
Thank you so much!

Thanks!
Hey MG thanks always for your insight and knowledge. Using this model would your beats be available for leasing to an artist as well?
larry shields I suppose, might need some planning to deal with updating splits later.
Darius Major you get all of it. Literally..if they have no paper work. Else, the soundcloud and RUclips rappers...just use audiam to hunt it down
MG The Future thanks for the info, you doing gods work bro
MG The Future 🔥💰‼️
Most people don't know what the difference between a producer and beat maker is. I've produced songs that where done on other people's beats before.
One takes credit and clout for what the other actually does
@@MGTheFuture Quincy Jones is one of the greatest producers of all time and he brought in the best musicians for each song. He was also great at overseeing each album as a whole project.
Indeed. He wasn’t on XXL magazine for producing a jayz record some 15 year old did at home though

That online sample resource kinda reminds me of Converse Rubber Tracks, www.mattracks.co/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkYqtzYDN2AIV2bbACh3EDQBsEAAYASAAEgJn9vD_BwE
I really have to thank you for this video. It may go down as the most important video I’ve ever watched in terms of charting a music production career. There are so many paths and options and, as a DIY digital creative, it helps to have a template laid out before you.
Your humility and expertise are refreshing in equal measure and I intend to repay you with what may be a groundbreaking tip of my owwn! ;-)

Jesse Tal I appreciate the kind words! Yes...that...this...and splice...it's paradise man
Lil confused on this post............. so can we use sample in the beats we sell online , like beat stars apple music etc?
Half you listed is selling beats...the other half is streaming.
Streaming services either allow cleared samples or dont. You gotta figure which. Tracklib clears samples for those that do.
would bandcamp be a good place to also release besides stores through distrokid? Just wonderin' MG
Absolutely. All the cool kids are doing it 😎including me. And the culture to buy projects is built into the platform...so it's useful
More powerful info 🙌🏽 🖖🏽
Just Music And lyrics 🙏🙏🙏
"Perfect for self-releasing music"- that is all you need to know.
Subtracs FACTS‼️ 🔥💰‼️
What if you already made a track then become a member in Tracklib can you use the same track that you have ..Then find the same one in Tracklib ? 🤔
Nothing, we can all use the same sample. Remember the final product is the song. Track lib exists because 100 producers can use the sample (pay 100 fees) and those original artists get paid regardless of who "makes it".
MG The Future 🔥💰‼️
So basically I pay $50 every time I wanna upload a beat to soundcloud?
SoundCloud? This is for distribution platforms that allow sample clearance fields
@@MGTheFuture I'm just using soundcloud as an example of a streaming service. Different category I guess.
@MG The Future Hi! Thank you for nice explanation. But, I have a question. Can I sale my own tracks (without samples) for sampling in tracklib.com? If so, then how?
Good Question. Have you contacted them?
@@MGTheFuture Good question too :) No, haven't. I didn't found any contact info on web-site.
Say I bought a beat from a producer, can I go to the site and get the sample cleared especially since I purchased it exclusively.
If they used a sample from there or that is present there, yeah
MG The Future Oh I see, but I highly doubt that used one from the site, guess I gotta pay D&G clearances
This seems more legit! What do you think of splice? Is it legit or can you still encounter legal issues in the future?
Splice is royalty free samples for now.
More so, the artist or their team is provided the information to clear the sample on tracklib themselves.
What if you dont use samples at all??
Give me an example of what you mean? Composers likely have the greatest chances of making an impact as an artist with these newer platforms and options to propagate their sound.
MG The Future Example...If I record few cords from my korg t3,using original studio one pro registered software, thus creasting a part of the song, I don't need to search or use or pay for any sample, right? If I understand correctly, no?
Or if I program a rhythm using adictive drums, I don't need to search any sample of any rhythm, right?
How does a self-producer make money from streaming?
Registering all your works properly as an artist and producer - you'd make money based on your attention / reach from the streaming services. From the Distribution outlets, twitch, youtube - likely need another "thing" to help expose your music and persona.
MG The Future 🔥‼️
Nick Mira should have watched this video before working with Juiceworld 😂😂

Sorry to hear about your HD.
700TB? thats crazy. was it an internal or usb? I'm not sure if disk warrior will fix the issue but I'll email you the DMG file hope that'll help you.
MG The Future NP bro. I think 🤔 disk warrior should solve that issue. I just emailed you the zip file. Let me know if it works for you.
